तस्य राक्षसराजस्य निशम्य परिदेवितम् ।
कुम्भकर्णो बभाषे ऽथ वचनं प्रजहास च ॥१॥
1. tasya rākṣasarājasya niśamya paridevitam ,
kumbhakarṇo babhāṣe'tha vacanaṃ prajahāsa ca.

1. Having heard the lamentation of that king of rākṣasas, Kumbhakarna then spoke, and also laughed aloud.
दृष्टो दोषो हि यो ऽस्माभिः पुरा मन्त्रविनिर्णये ।
हितेष्वनभियुक्तेन सो ऽयमासादितस्त्वया ॥२॥
2. dṛṣṭo doṣo hi yo'smābhiḥ purā mantravinirṇaye ,
hiteṣvanabhiyuktena so'yamāsāditastvayā.
2. dṛṣṭaḥ doṣaḥ hi yaḥ asmābhiḥ purā mantravinirṇaye
hiteṣu anabhiyuktena saḥ ayam āsāditaḥ tvayā
2. Indeed, that fault which was previously observed by us during the council's decision-making, has now been incurred by you, who were unconcerned with matters of welfare.
शीघ्रं खल्वभ्युपेतं त्वां फलं पापस्य कर्मणः ।
निरयेष्वेव पतनं यथा दुष्कृतकर्मणः ॥३॥
3. śīghraṃ khalvabhyupetaṃ tvāṃ phalaṃ pāpasya karmaṇaḥ ,
nirayeṣveva patanaṃ yathā duṣkṛtakarmaṇaḥ.
3. śīghram khalu abhyupetam tvām phalam pāpasya
karmaṇaḥ nirayeṣu eva patanam yathā duṣkṛtakarmaṇaḥ
3. Indeed, the consequence of your evil action (karma) has swiftly befallen you, just as the descent into hells (niraya) awaits only those who perform wicked deeds.
प्रथमं वै महाराज कृत्यमेतदचिन्तितम् ।
केवलं वीर्यदर्पेण नानुबन्धो विचारितः ॥४॥
4. prathamaṃ vai mahārāja kṛtyametadacintitam ,
kevalaṃ vīryadarpeṇa nānubandho vicāritaḥ.
4. prathamam vai mahārāja kṛtyam etat acintitam
kevalam vīryadarpeṇa na anubandhaḥ vicāritaḥ
4. mahārāja etat kṛtyam prathamam vai acintitam

4. O great king, this act was indeed not thought through from the start. Its consequences were not deliberated upon, purely due to pride in valor.
यः पश्चात् पूर्वकार्याणि कुर्यादैश्वर्यमास्थितः ।
पूर्वं चोत्तरकार्याणि न स वेद नयानयौ ॥५॥
5. yaḥ paścāt pūrvakāryāṇi kuryādaiśvaryamāsthitaḥ ,
pūrvaṃ cottarakāryāṇi na sa veda nayānayau.
5. yaḥ paścāt pūrvakāryāṇi kuryāt aiśvaryam āsthitaḥ
pūrvam ca uttarakāryāṇi na saḥ veda naya anayau
5. yaḥ aiśvaryam āsthitaḥ pūrvakāryāṇi paścāt kuryāt

5. One who, relying on his authority, performs earlier tasks later and later tasks earlier, that person does not understand what constitutes proper and improper conduct.
देशकालविहीनानि कर्माणि विपरीतवत् ।
क्रियमाणानि दुष्यन्ति हवींष्यप्रयतेष्विव ॥६॥
6. deśakālavihīnāni karmāṇi viparītavat ,
kriyamāṇāni duṣyanti havīṃṣyaprayateṣviva.
6. deśakālavihīnāni karmāṇi viparītavat
kriyamāṇāni duṣyanti havīṃṣi aprayateṣu iva
6. deśakālavihīnāni viparītavat kriyamāṇāni
karmāṇi aprayateṣu havīṃṣi iva duṣyanti
6. Actions (karma) that are performed without due regard for place and time, and contrary to proper procedure, become corrupted, just as oblations offered to the impure are spoiled.
त्रयाणां पञ्चधा योगं कर्मणां यः प्रपश्यति ।
सचिवैः समयं कृत्वा स सभ्ये वर्तते पथि ॥७॥
7. trayāṇāṃ pañcadhā yogaṃ karmaṇāṃ yaḥ prapaśyati ,
sacivaiḥ samayaṃ kṛtvā sa sabhye vartate pathi.
7. trayāṇām pañcadhā yogam karmaṇām yaḥ prapaśyati
sacivaiḥ samayam kṛtvā saḥ sabhye vartate pathi
7. yaḥ trayāṇām karmaṇām pañcadhā yogam prapaśyati
saḥ sacivaiḥ samayam kṛtvā sabhye pathi vartate
7. He who comprehends the five-fold application (yoga) of the three categories of actions (karma), after consulting with his ministers, truly walks on a just path.
यथागमं च यो राजा समयं विचिकीर्षति ।
बुध्यते सचिवान्बुद्ध्या सुहृदश्चानुपश्यति ॥८॥
8. yathāgamaṃ ca yo rājā samayaṃ vicikīrṣati ,
budhyate sacivānbuddhyā suhṛdaścānupaśyati.
8. yathāgamam ca yaḥ rājā samayam vicikīrṣati
budhyate sacivān buddhyā suhṛdaḥ ca anupaśyati
8. And the king who wishes to act in accordance with the sacred tradition (āgama) and observe the agreed terms, understands his ministers through his intellect and also discerns his friends.
धर्ममर्थं च कामं च सर्वान् वा रक्षसां पते ।
भजते पुरुषः काले त्रीणि द्वन्द्वानि वा पुनः ॥९॥
9. dharmamarthaṃ ca kāmaṃ ca sarvān vā rakṣasāṃ pate ,
bhajate puruṣaḥ kāle trīṇi dvandvāni vā punaḥ.
9. dharmam artham ca kāmam ca sarvān vā rakṣasām pate
bhajate puruṣaḥ kāle trīṇi dvandvāni vā punaḥ
9. O lord of the rākṣasas! A person (puruṣa), in due course of time, cultivates (the aims of) natural law (dharma), prosperity, and pleasure, all of them, or alternatively, the three pairs of opposites (dvandvas).
त्रिषु चैतेषु यच्छ्रेष्ठं श्रुत्वा तन्नावबुध्यते ।
राजा वा राजमात्रो वा व्यर्थं तस्य बहुश्रुतम् ॥१०॥
10. triṣu caiteṣu yacchreṣṭhaṃ śrutvā tannāvabudhyate ,
rājā vā rājamātro vā vyarthaṃ tasya bahuśrutam.
10. triṣu ca eteṣu yat śreṣṭham śrutvā tat na avabudhyate
rājā vā rājamātraḥ vā vyartham tasya bahuśrutam
10. And if a person - whether a king or a king's minister - having heard what is supreme among these three (aims of life), does not comprehend it, then his extensive learning is futile.
उपप्रदानं सान्त्वं वा भेदं काले च विक्रमम् ।
योगं च रक्षसां श्रेष्ठ ताव् उभौ च नयानयौ ॥११॥
11. upapradānaṃ sāntvaṃ vā bhedaṃ kāle ca vikramam ,
yogaṃ ca rakṣasāṃ śreṣṭha tāv ubhau ca nayānayau.
11. upapradānam sāntvam vā bhedam kāle ca vikramam
yogam ca rakṣasām śreṣṭha tau ubhau ca nayānayau
11. O best among the rākṣasas! (One should consider) gifts, or conciliation, as well as sowing dissension and displaying valor at the appropriate time; and also proper strategy (yoga), and both sound policy and faulty policy.
काले धर्मार्थकामान्यः संमन्त्र्य सचिवैः सह ।
निषेवेतात्मवांल् लोके न स व्यसनमाप्नुयात् ॥१२॥
12. kāle dharmārthakāmānyaḥ saṃmantrya sacivaiḥ saha ,
niṣevetātmavāṃl loke na sa vyasanamāpnuyāt.
12. kāle dharma-artha-kāmān yaḥ saṃmantrya sacivaiḥ
saha niṣeveta ātmanvān loke na sa vyasanam āpnuyāt
12. ātmanvān yaḥ kāle sacivaiḥ saha dharma-artha-kāmān
saṃmantrya niṣeveta sa loke vyasanam na āpnuyāt
12. A resolute person who, having deliberated well with his ministers at the appropriate time concerning righteous conduct (dharma), material prosperity, and pleasure, pursues them, does not incur misfortune in this world.
हितानुबन्धमालोक्य कार्याकार्यमिहात्मनः ।
राजा सहार्थतत्त्वज्ञैः सचिवैः सह जीवति ॥१३॥
13. hitānubandhamālokya kāryākāryamihātmanaḥ ,
rājā sahārthatattvajñaiḥ sacivaiḥ saha jīvati.
13. hita-anubandham ālokya kārya-akāryam iha ātmanaḥ
rājā saha artha-tattva-jñaiḥ sacivaiḥ saha jīvati
13. rājā iha ātmanaḥ kārya-akāryam hita-anubandham
ālokya saha artha-tattva-jñaiḥ sacivaiḥ saha jīvati
13. A king thrives in this world who, considering his own proper actions and forbidden actions, and their beneficial consequences, lives together with ministers who are truly knowledgeable in the essence of statecraft.
अनभिज्ञाय शास्त्रार्थान्पुरुषाः पशुबुद्धयः ।
प्रागल्भ्याद्वक्तुमिच्छन्ति मन्त्रेष्वभ्यन्तरीकृताः ॥१४॥
14. anabhijñāya śāstrārthānpuruṣāḥ paśubuddhayaḥ ,
prāgalbhyādvaktumicchanti mantreṣvabhyantarīkṛtāḥ.
14. anabhijñāya śāstra-arthān puruṣāḥ paśu-buddhayaḥ
prāgalbhyāt vaktum icchanti mantreṣu abhyantarīkṛtāḥ
14. śāstra-arthān anabhijñāya paśu-buddhayaḥ puruṣāḥ
mantreṣu abhyantarīkṛtāḥ prāgalbhyāt vaktum icchanti
14. Dull-witted men, who are ignorant of the meaning of the scriptures, desire to speak boldly when they are included in deliberations.
अशास्त्रविदुषां तेषां न कार्यमहितं वचः ।
अर्थशास्त्रानभिज्ञानां विपुलां श्रियमिच्छताम् ॥१५॥
15. aśāstraviduṣāṃ teṣāṃ na kāryamahitaṃ vacaḥ ,
arthaśāstrānabhijñānāṃ vipulāṃ śriyamicchatām.
15. a-śāstra-viduṣām teṣām na kāryam ahitam vacaḥ
artha-śāstra-anabhijñānām vipulām śriyam icchatām
15. a-śāstra-viduṣām artha-śāstra-anabhijñānām vipulām
śriyam icchatām teṣām ahitam vacaḥ na kāryam
15. The harmful advice of those who are ignorant of the scriptures and uninformed about statecraft (arthaśāstra), even if they desire great prosperity, should not be considered valid.
अहितं च हिताकारं धार्ष्ट्याज्जल्पन्ति ये नराः ।
अवेक्ष्य मन्त्रबाह्यास्ते कर्तव्याः कृत्यदूषणाः ॥१६॥
16. ahitaṃ ca hitākāraṃ dhārṣṭyājjalpanti ye narāḥ ,
avekṣya mantrabāhyāste kartavyāḥ kṛtyadūṣaṇāḥ.
16. ahitam ca hitākāram dhārṣṭyāt jalpanti ye narāḥ
avekṣya mantrabāhyāḥ te kartavyāḥ kṛtyadūṣaṇāḥ
16. ye narāḥ dhārṣṭyāt ahitam ca hitākāram jalpanti,
te avekṣya mantrabāhyāḥ kṛtyadūṣaṇāḥ kartavyāḥ
16. Those individuals who, out of impudence, utter harmful advice disguised as beneficial, should be recognized and then excluded from deliberations, as they are obstructors of important tasks.
विनाशयन्तो भर्तारं सहिताः शत्रुभिर्बुधैः ।
विपरीतानि कृत्यानि कारयन्तीह मन्त्रिणः ॥१७॥
17. vināśayanto bhartāraṃ sahitāḥ śatrubhirbudhaiḥ ,
viparītāni kṛtyāni kārayantīha mantriṇaḥ.
17. vināśayantaḥ bhartāram sahitāḥ śatrubhiḥ budhaiḥ
viparītāni kṛtyāni kārayanti iha mantriṇaḥ
17. mantriṇaḥ śatrubhiḥ budhaiḥ sahitāḥ bhartāram
vināśayantaḥ iha viparītāni kṛtyāni kārayanti
17. Ministers who, allied with astute enemies, are actively undermining their master, cause inappropriate actions to be carried out.
तान्भर्ता मित्रसंकाशानमित्रान्मन्त्रनिर्णये ।
व्यवहारेण जानीयात् सचिवानुपसंहितान् ॥१८॥
18. tānbhartā mitrasaṃkāśānamitrānmantranirṇaye ,
vyavahāreṇa jānīyāt sacivānupasaṃhitān.
18. tān bhartā mitrasaṃkāśān amitrān mantranirṇaye
vyavahāreṇa jānīyāt sacivān upasaṃhitān
18. bhartā mantranirṇaye vyavahāreṇa mitrasaṃkāśān
amitrān upasaṃhitān tān sacivān jānīyāt
18. The king should discern those ministers who, though appearing as friends, are actually enemies allied (with enemies), recognizing them by their behavior during deliberations.
चपलस्येह कृत्यानि सहसानुप्रधावतः ।
छिद्रमन्ये प्रपद्यन्ते क्रौञ्चस्य खमिव द्विजाः ॥१९॥
19. capalasyeha kṛtyāni sahasānupradhāvataḥ ,
chidramanye prapadyante krauñcasya khamiva dvijāḥ.
19. capalasya iha kṛtyāni sahasā anupradhāvataḥ
chidram anye prapadyante krauñcasya kham iva dvijāḥ
19. iha sahasā kṛtyāni anupradhāvataḥ capalasya
chidram anye dvijāḥ krauñcasya kham iva prapadyante
19. Others exploit the vulnerabilities of a reckless person who impetuously rushes into actions, just as birds enter the fissure of the Krauñca mountain.
यो हि शत्रुमवज्ञाय नात्मानमभिरक्षति ।
अवाप्नोति हि सो ऽनर्थान् स्थानाच्च व्यवरोप्यते ॥२०॥
20. yo hi śatrumavajñāya nātmānamabhirakṣati ,
avāpnoti hi so'narthān sthānācca vyavaropyate.
20. yaḥ hi śatrum avajñāya na ātmānam abhirakṣati
avāpnoti hi saḥ anarthān sthānāt ca vyavaropyate
20. Indeed, a person who disregards an enemy and fails to protect his own self (ātman) certainly incurs misfortunes and is dislodged from his position.
तत्तु श्रुत्वा दशग्रीवः कुम्भकर्णस्य भाषितम् ।
भ्रुकुटिं चैव संचक्रे क्रुद्धश्चैनमुवाच ह ॥२१॥
21. tattu śrutvā daśagrīvaḥ kumbhakarṇasya bhāṣitam ,
bhrukuṭiṃ caiva saṃcakre kruddhaścainamuvāca ha.
21. tat tu śrutvā daśagrīvaḥ kumbhakarṇasya bhāṣitam
bhrukuṭim ca eva saṃcakre kruddhaḥ ca enam uvāca ha
21. Upon hearing those words of Kumbhakarṇa, Daśagrīva (Rāvaṇa) indeed knitted his brows, and, enraged, he spoke to him.
मान्यो गुरुरिवाचार्यः किं मां त्वमनुशासति ।
किमेवं वाक्श्रमं कृत्वा काले युक्तं विधीयताम् ॥२२॥
22. mānyo gururivācāryaḥ kiṃ māṃ tvamanuśāsati ,
kimevaṃ vākśramaṃ kṛtvā kāle yuktaṃ vidhīyatām.
22. mānyaḥ guruḥ iva ācāryaḥ kim mām tvam anuśāsati
kim evam vākśramam kṛtvā kāle yuktam vidhīyatām
22. Are you a venerable preceptor (ācārya), like a spiritual teacher (guru), that you instruct me? Why make such an effort with words? Instead, let what is appropriate be done in due time.
विभ्रमाच्चित्तमोहाद्वा बलवीर्याश्रयेण वा ।
नाभिपन्नमिदानीं यद्व्यर्थास्तस्य पुनः कृथाः ॥२३॥
23. vibhramāccittamohādvā balavīryāśrayeṇa vā ,
nābhipannamidānīṃ yadvyarthāstasya punaḥ kṛthāḥ.
23. vibhrāmāt ca cittamohat vā balavīryāśrayeṇa vā na
abhipannam idānīm yat vyarthāḥ tasya punaḥ kṛthāḥ
23. Whatever is not understood even now, whether due to bewilderment, mental delusion, or reliance on [our] strength and valor, why do you make your efforts concerning it futile again?
अस्मिन् काले तु यद् युक्तं तदिदानीं विधीयताम् ।
ममापनयजं दोषं विक्रमेण समीकुरु ॥२४॥
24. asmin kāle tu yad yuktaṃ tadidānīṃ vidhīyatām ,
mamāpanayajaṃ doṣaṃ vikrameṇa samīkuru.
24. asmin kāle tu yat yuktam tat idānīm vidhīyatām
mama apanayajam doṣam vikrameṇa samīkuru
24. yat yuktam tat asmin kāle tu idānīm vidhīyatām
mama apanayajam doṣam vikrameṇa samīkuru
24. Whatever is appropriate for this moment, let it be done now. Correct my fault, which arose from my misconduct, with your valor.
यदि खल्वस्ति मे स्नेहो भ्रातृत्वं वावगच्छसि ।
यदि वा कार्यमेतत्ते हृदि कार्यतमं मतम् ॥२५॥
25. yadi khalvasti me sneho bhrātṛtvaṃ vāvagacchasi ,
yadi vā kāryametatte hṛdi kāryatamaṃ matam.
25. yadi khalu asti me snehaḥ bhrātṛtvam vā avagacchasi
yadi vā kāryam etat te hṛdi kāryatamam matam
25. yadi khalu me snehaḥ asti,
vā bhrātṛtvam avagacchasi,
yadi vā etat kāryam te hṛdi kāryatamam matam
25. If indeed you feel affection (sneha) for me, or you perceive our brotherhood, or if this task is considered by you as most important in your heart.
स सुहृद्यो विपन्नार्थं दीनमभ्यवपद्यते ।
स बन्धुर्यो ऽपनीतेषु साहाय्यायोपकल्पते ॥२६॥
26. sa suhṛdyo vipannārthaṃ dīnamabhyavapadyate ,
sa bandhuryo'panīteṣu sāhāyyāyopakalpate.
26. saḥ suhṛt yaḥ vipannārtham dīnam abhyavapadyate
saḥ bandhuḥ yaḥ apanīteṣu sāhāyyāya upakalpate
26. yaḥ vipannārtham dīnam abhyavapadyate,
saḥ suhṛt.
yaḥ apanīteṣu sāhāyyāya upakalpate,
saḥ bandhuḥ
26. He is a true friend who comes to the aid of a miserable person whose purpose has been frustrated. He is a real kinsman who appears to help those who have been wronged.
तमथैवं ब्रुवाणं तु वचनं धीरदारुणम् ।
रुष्टो ऽयमिति विज्ञाय शनैः श्लक्ष्णमुवाच ह ॥२७॥
27. tamathaivaṃ bruvāṇaṃ tu vacanaṃ dhīradāruṇam ,
ruṣṭo'yamiti vijñāya śanaiḥ ślakṣṇamuvāca ha.
27. tam atha evam bruvāṇam tu vacanam dhīradāruṇam
ruṣṭaḥ ayam iti vijñāya śanaiḥ ślakṣṇam uvāca ha
27. atha tu tam evam dhīradāruṇam vacanam bruvāṇam,
ayam ruṣṭaḥ iti vijñāya,
śanaiḥ ślakṣṇam ha uvāca
27. Then, knowing 'he is angry,' (the other person) slowly and gently spoke to him, who was uttering such words, which were firm yet harsh.
अतीव हि समालक्ष्य भ्रातरं क्षुभितेन्द्रियम् ।
कुम्भकर्णः शनैर्वाक्यं बभाषे परिसान्त्वयन् ॥२८॥
28. atīva hi samālakṣya bhrātaraṃ kṣubhitendriyam ,
kumbhakarṇaḥ śanairvākyaṃ babhāṣe parisāntvayan.
28. atīva hi samālakṣya bhrātaram kṣubhiteindriyam
kumbhakarṇaḥ śanaiḥ vākyam babhāṣe parisāntvayan
28. kumbhakarṇaḥ hi atīva kṣubhiteindriyam bhrātaram
samālakṣya śanaiḥ vākyam babhāṣe parisāntvayan
28. Indeed, having observed his brother whose senses were exceedingly agitated, Kumbhakarna gently spoke words, comforting him.
अलं राक्षसराजेन्द्र संतापमुपपद्य ते ।
रोषं च संपरित्यज्य स्वस्थो भवितुमर्हसि ॥२९॥
29. alaṃ rākṣasarājendra saṃtāpamupapadya te ,
roṣaṃ ca saṃparityajya svastho bhavitumarhasi.
29. alam rākṣasarājendra santāpam upapadya te
roṣam ca saṃparityajya svasthaḥ bhavitum arhasi
29. rākṣasarājendra,
te santāpam upapadya alam.
roṣam ca saṃparityajya svasthaḥ bhavitum arhasi
29. O King of the Rākṣasas, enough of experiencing this distress for you. Having completely abandoned anger, you should become composed.
नैतन्मनसि कर्तव्व्यं मयि जीवति पार्थिव ।
तमहं नाशयिष्यामि यत्कृते परितप्यसे ॥३०॥
30. naitanmanasi kartavvyaṃ mayi jīvati pārthiva ,
tamahaṃ nāśayiṣyāmi yatkṛte paritapyase.
30. na etat manasi kartavyam mayi jīvati pārthiva
tam aham nāśayiṣyāmi yatkṛte paritapyase
30. pārthiva,
mayi jīvati etat manasi kartavyam na.
aham tam nāśayiṣyāmi yatkṛte paritapyase
30. O King, this (distress) should not be held in your mind while I am alive. I will destroy him for whose sake you are grieving.
अवश्यं तु हितं वाच्यं सर्वावस्थं मया तव ।
बन्धुभावादभिहितं भ्रातृस्नेहाच्च पार्थिव ॥३१॥
31. avaśyaṃ tu hitaṃ vācyaṃ sarvāvasthaṃ mayā tava ,
bandhubhāvādabhihitaṃ bhrātṛsnehācca pārthiva.
31. avaśyam tu hitam vācyam sarvāvastham mayā tava
bandhubhāvāt abhihitam bhrātṛsnehāt ca pārthiva
31. pārthiva,
tu avaśyam sarvāvastham hitam mayā tava bandhubhāvāt ca bhrātṛsnehāt abhihitam vācyam
31. O King, what is beneficial must certainly be spoken by me to you in all circumstances, motivated by the sentiment of kinship and brotherly affection.
सदृशं यत्तु काले ऽस्मिन् कर्तुं स्निग्धेन बन्धुना ।
शत्रूणां कदनं पश्य क्रियमाणं मया रणे ॥३२॥
32. sadṛśaṃ yattu kāle'smin kartuṃ snigdhena bandhunā ,
śatrūṇāṃ kadanaṃ paśya kriyamāṇaṃ mayā raṇe.
32. sadṛśam yat tu kāle asmin kartum snigdhena bandhunā
śatrūṇām kadanam paśya kriyamāṇam mayā raṇe
32. paśya mayā raṇe śatrūṇām kadanam kriyamāṇam yat
tu asmin kāle snigdhena bandhunā kartum sadṛśam
32. Behold the destruction of the enemies, which is proper for an affectionate kinsman to perform at this time, being carried out by me in battle.
अद्य पश्य महाबाहो मया समरमूर्धनि ।
हते रामे सह भ्रात्रा द्रवन्तीं हरिवाहिनीम् ॥३३॥

33. O mighty-armed one, behold today the monkey army fleeing on the battlefield, with Rama slain by me along with his brother.

34. O mighty-armed one, today, having seen that head of Rama brought by me from battle, be happy! Let Sita be distressed!

लङ्कायां राक्षसाः सर्वे ये ते निहतबान्धवाः ॥३५॥
35. adya rāmasya paśyantu nidhanaṃ sumahat priyam ,
laṅkāyāṃ rākṣasāḥ sarve ye te nihatabāndhavāḥ.

35. Today, let all the rakshasas in Lanka, whose relatives have been killed, witness the great and welcome demise of Rama.

शत्रोर्युधि विनाशेन करोम्यस्रप्रमार्जनम् ॥३६॥
36. adya śokaparītānāṃ svabandhuvadhakāraṇāt ,

37. Today, behold Sugrīva, the lord of monkeys, appearing vast in battle, like a mountain and like a cloud containing the sun.
न परः प्रेषणीयस्ते युद्धायातुल विक्रम ।
अहमुत्सादयिष्यामि शत्रूंस्तव महाबल ॥३८॥
38. na paraḥ preṣaṇīyaste yuddhāyātula vikrama ,
ahamutsādayiṣyāmi śatrūṃstava mahābala.
38. na paraḥ preṣaṇīyaḥ te yuddhāya atulavikrama
aham utsādayiṣyāmi śatrūn tava mahābala
38. atulavikrama mahābala te yuddhāya paraḥ na
preṣaṇīyaḥ; aham tava śatrūn utsādayiṣyāmi
38. O hero of unequalled prowess and great might, you need not send anyone else for battle; I myself will destroy your enemies.
यदि शक्रो यदि यमो यदि पावकमारुतौ ।
तानहं योधयिष्यामि कुबेर वरुणावपि ॥३९॥
39. yadi śakro yadi yamo yadi pāvakamārutau ,
tānahaṃ yodhayiṣyāmi kubera varuṇāvapi.

39. If it be Indra, if it be Yama, if it be Agni and Vāyu, I will fight against them; and indeed, even Kubera and Varuṇa.
गिरिमात्रशरीरस्य शितशूलधरस्य मे ।
नर्दतस्तीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रस्य बिभीयाच्च पुरंदरः ॥४०॥
40. girimātraśarīrasya śitaśūladharasya me ,
nardatastīkṣṇadaṃṣṭrasya bibhīyācca puraṃdaraḥ.

40. Even Purandara (Indra) would fear me, who has a mountain-sized body, wields a sharpened spear, and roars with sharp fangs.
अथ वा त्यक्तशस्त्रस्य मृद्गतस्तरसा रिपून् ।
न मे प्रतिमुखे कश्चिच्छक्तः स्थातुं जिजीविषुः ॥४१॥
41. atha vā tyaktaśastrasya mṛdgatastarasā ripūn ,
na me pratimukhe kaścicchaktaḥ sthātuṃ jijīviṣuḥ.

me pratimukhe kaścit śaktaḥ sthātum jijīviṣuḥ

41. Alternatively, even if I have abandoned weapons and am crushing enemies with sheer force, no one desirous of living would be able to stand before me.
नैव शक्त्या न गदया नासिना न शितैः शरैः ।
हस्ताभ्यामेव संरब्धो हनिष्याम्यपि वज्रिणम् ॥४२॥
42. naiva śaktyā na gadayā nāsinā na śitaiḥ śaraiḥ ,
hastābhyāmeva saṃrabdho haniṣyāmyapi vajriṇam.

hastābhyām eva saṃrabdhaḥ haniṣyāmi api vajriṇam

42. Neither with a spear, nor with a mace, nor with a sword, nor with sharpened arrows - but enraged, I will kill even Vajrin (Indra) with just my two hands.
यदि मे मुष्टिवेगं स राघवो ऽद्य सहिष्यति ।
ततः पास्यन्ति बाणौघा रुधिरं राघवस्य ते ॥४३॥
43. yadi me muṣṭivegaṃ sa rāghavo'dya sahiṣyati ,
tataḥ pāsyanti bāṇaughā rudhiraṃ rāghavasya te.
43. yadi me muṣṭivegam sa rāghavaḥ adya sahiṣyati
tataḥ pāsyanti bāṇaughāḥ rudhiram rāghavasya te
43. yadi saḥ rāghavaḥ adya me muṣṭivegam sahiṣyati
tataḥ bāṇaughāḥ te rāghavasya rudhiram pāsyanti
43. If that Rāghava (Rama) today endures the force of my fist, then floods of arrows will drink your blood, O Rāghava!
चिन्तया बाध्यसे राजन् किमर्थं मयि तिष्ठति ।
सो ऽहं शत्रुविनाशाय तव निर्यातुमुद्यतः ॥४४॥
44. cintayā bādhyase rājan kimarthaṃ mayi tiṣṭhati ,
so'haṃ śatruvināśāya tava niryātumudyataḥ.
44. cintayā bādhyase rājan kimartham mayi tiṣṭhati
saḥ aham śatruvināśāya tava niryātum udyataḥ
44. rājan mayi tiṣṭhati kimartham cintayā bādhyase

44. O king, why are you troubled by anxiety while I am present? I am indeed prepared to go forth for the destruction of your enemies.
मुञ्च रामाद्भयं राजन् हनिष्यामीह संयुगे ।
राघवं लक्ष्मणं चैव सुग्रीवं च महाबलम् ।
असाधारणमिच्छामि तव दातुं महद् यशः ॥४५॥
45. muñca rāmādbhayaṃ rājan haniṣyāmīha saṃyuge ,
rāghavaṃ lakṣmaṇaṃ caiva sugrīvaṃ ca mahābalam ,
asādhāraṇamicchāmi tava dātuṃ mahad yaśaḥ.
45. muñca rāmāt bhayam rājan haniṣyāmi
iha saṃyuge rāghavam lakṣmaṇam ca
eva sugrīvam ca mahābalam asādhāraṇam
icchāmi tava dātum mahat yaśaḥ

sugrīvam ca (aham) haniṣyāmi (aham) tava
asādhāraṇam mahat yaśaḥ dātum icchāmi
45. O king, abandon your fear of Rāma; I will kill him here in battle. I will also kill Rāghava, Lakṣmaṇa, and the mighty Sugrīva. I desire to bestow upon you extraordinary glory.
वधेन ते दाशरथेः सुखावहं सुखं समाहर्तुमहं व्रजामि ।
निहत्य रामं सहलक्ष्मणेन खादामि सर्वान् हरियूथमुख्यान् ॥४६॥
46. vadhena te dāśaratheḥ sukhāvahaṃ sukhaṃ samāhartumahaṃ vrajāmi ,
nihatya rāmaṃ sahalakṣmaṇena khādāmi sarvān hariyūthamukhyān.

46. I am going to bring you profound happiness through the killing of Daśaratha's son (Rāma). After slaying Rāma along with Lakṣmaṇa, I will devour all the prominent leaders of the monkey army.
रमस्व कामं पिब चाग्र्यवारुणीं कुरुष्व कृत्यानि विनीयतां ज्वरः ।
मयाद्य रामे गमिते यमक्षयं चिराय सीता वशगा भविष्यति ॥४७॥
47. ramasva kāmaṃ piba cāgryavāruṇīṃ kuruṣva kṛtyāni vinīyatāṃ jvaraḥ ,
mayādya rāme gamite yamakṣayaṃ cirāya sītā vaśagā bhaviṣyati.

47. Indulge freely and drink the finest liquor. Attend to your duties, and let your feverish agitation be dispelled. For today, once Rāma has been sent by me to Yama's abode, Sītā will remain under your control for a long time.
