सा तथोक्ता तु वैदेही निर्भया शोककर्षिता ।
तृणमन्तरतः कृत्वा रावणं प्रत्यभाषत ॥१॥

1. She, Vaidehī (Sītā), despite being afflicted by sorrow, was fearless. Having been addressed in such a manner, she placed a blade of grass between them and spoke back to Rāvaṇa.
राजा दशरथो नाम धर्मसेतुरिवाचलः ।
सत्यसन्धः परिज्ञातो यस्य पुत्रः स राघवः ॥२॥
2. rājā daśaratho nāma dharmaseturivācalaḥ ,
satyasandhaḥ parijñāto yasya putraḥ sa rāghavaḥ.

2. There was a king named Daśaratha, who was as firm as an unmoving bridge of natural law (dharma). He was well-known and steadfast in his vows, and his son is that Rāghava (Rāma).
रामो नाम स धर्मात्मा त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतः ।
दीर्घबाहुर्विशालाक्षो दैवतं स पतिर्मम ॥३॥
3. rāmo nāma sa dharmātmā triṣu lokeṣu viśrutaḥ ,
dīrghabāhurviśālākṣo daivataṃ sa patirmama.

3. That very Rāma, a virtuous soul (dharmātmā), is famous throughout the three worlds. He has long arms and large eyes; that divine being is my husband.
इक्ष्वाकूणां कुले जातः सिंहस्कन्धो महाद्युतिः ।
लक्ष्मणेन सह भ्रात्रा यस्ते प्राणां हरिष्यति ॥४॥
4. ikṣvākūṇāṃ kule jātaḥ siṃhaskandho mahādyutiḥ ,
lakṣmaṇena saha bhrātrā yaste prāṇāṃ hariṣyati.
4. ikṣvākūṇām kule jātaḥ siṃhaskandhaḥ mahādyutiḥ
lakṣmaṇena saha bhrātrā yaḥ te prāṇān hariṣyati

4. Born in the lineage of the Ikṣvākus, with shoulders like a lion and of great splendor, he, along with his brother Lakṣmaṇa, will take your life.
प्रत्यक्षं यद्यहं तस्य त्वया स्यां धर्षिता बलात् ।
शयिता त्वं हतः संख्ये जनस्थाने यथा खरः ॥५॥
5. pratyakṣaṃ yadyahaṃ tasya tvayā syāṃ dharṣitā balāt ,
śayitā tvaṃ hataḥ saṃkhye janasthāne yathā kharaḥ.
5. pratyakṣam yadi aham tasya tvayā syām dharṣitā balāt
| śayitā tvam hataḥ saṃkhye janasthāne yathā kharaḥ
5. yadi aham tasya pratyakṣam tvayā balāt dharṣitā syām,
tvam saṃkhye hataḥ śayitā,
yathā kharaḥ janasthāne
5. If I were to be forcibly violated by you in his (Rāma's) presence, then you would lie slain on the battlefield, just as Khara did in Janasthana.
य एते राक्षसाः प्रोक्ता घोररूपा महाबलाः ।
राघवे निर्विषाः सर्वे सुपर्णे पन्नगा यथा ॥६॥
6. ya ete rākṣasāḥ proktā ghorarūpā mahābalāḥ ,
rāghave nirviṣāḥ sarve suparṇe pannagā yathā.
6. ye ete rākṣasāḥ proktāḥ ghorarūpāḥ mahābalāḥ |
rāghave nirviṣāḥ sarve suparṇe pannagāḥ yathā
6. ete ye rākṣasāḥ ghorarūpāḥ mahābalāḥ proktāḥ,
sarve rāghave nirviṣāḥ yathā suparṇe pannagāḥ
6. All these Rākṣasas, who are described as having terrifying appearances and immense strength, will become powerless before Rāghava, just as serpents are (powerless) before Garuḍa.
तस्य ज्याविप्रमुक्तास्ते शराः काञ्चनभूषणाः ।
शरीरं विधमिष्यन्ति गङ्गाकूलमिवोर्मयः ॥७॥
7. tasya jyāvipramuktāste śarāḥ kāñcanabhūṣaṇāḥ ,
śarīraṃ vidhamiṣyanti gaṅgākūlamivormayaḥ.
7. tasya jyāvipramuktāḥ te śarāḥ kāñcanabhūṣaṇāḥ
| śarīram vidhamiṣyanti gaṅgākūlam iva ūrmayaḥ
7. tasya jyāvipramuktāḥ kāñcanabhūṣaṇāḥ te śarāḥ śarīram vidhamiṣyanti,
yathā ūrmayaḥ gaṅgākūlam iva
7. His gold-adorned arrows, released from the bowstring, will devastate (your) body, just as waves erode the banks of the Gaṅgā.
असुरैर्वा सुरैर्वा त्वं यद्यवधो ऽसि रावण ।
उत्पाद्य सुमहद्वैरं जीवंस्तस्य न मोक्ष्यसे ॥८॥
8. asurairvā surairvā tvaṃ yadyavadho'si rāvaṇa ,
utpādya sumahadvairaṃ jīvaṃstasya na mokṣyase.
8. asuraiḥ vā suraiḥ vā tvam yadi avadhaḥ asi rāvaṇa
| utpādya sumahat vairam jīvan tasya na mokṣyase
8. rāvaṇa,
yadi tvam asuraiḥ vā suraiḥ vā avadhaḥ asi,
sumahat vairam utpādya,
jīvan tasya na mokṣyase
8. O Rāvaṇa, even if you are invulnerable to being killed by either Asuras or Suras, having incurred such a formidable enmity, you will not escape (its consequences) while you are still alive.
स ते जीवितशेषस्य राघवो ऽन्तकरो बली ।
पशोर्यूपगतस्येव जीवितं तव दुर्लभम् ॥९॥
9. sa te jīvitaśeṣasya rāghavo'ntakaro balī ,
paśoryūpagatasyeva jīvitaṃ tava durlabham.
9. saḥ te jīvitaśeṣasya rāghavaḥ antakaraḥ balī
paśoḥ yūpagatasya iva jīvitam tava durlabham
9. saḥ balī rāghavaḥ te jīvitaśeṣasya antakaraḥ
tava jīvitam yūpagatasya paśoḥ iva durlabham
9. That powerful Rāghava will be the terminator of what remains of your life. Your life is as precarious as that of an animal tied to a sacrificial post.
यदि पश्येत् स रामस्त्वां रोषदीप्तेन चक्षुषा ।
रक्षस्त्वमद्य निर्दग्धो गच्छेः सद्यः पराभवम् ॥१०॥
10. yadi paśyet sa rāmastvāṃ roṣadīptena cakṣuṣā ,
rakṣastvamadya nirdagdho gaccheḥ sadyaḥ parābhavam.
10. yadi paśyet saḥ rāmaḥ tvām roṣadīptena cakṣuṣā rakṣaḥ
tvam adya nirdagdhaḥ gaccheḥ sadyaḥ parābhavam
10. rakṣaḥ yadi saḥ rāmaḥ roṣadīptena cakṣuṣā tvām paśyet
tvam adya nirdagdhaḥ sadyaḥ parābhavam gaccheḥ
10. O demon, if that Rāma were to see you with an eye blazing with fury, you would be instantly consumed and swiftly meet your ruin.
यश्चन्द्रं नभसो भूमौ पातयेन्नाशयेत वा ।
सागरं शोषयेद्वापि स सीतां मोचयेदिह ॥११॥
11. yaścandraṃ nabhaso bhūmau pātayennāśayeta vā ,
sāgaraṃ śoṣayedvāpi sa sītāṃ mocayediha.
11. yaḥ candram nabhasaḥ bhūmau pātayet nāśayeta vā
sāgaram śoṣayet vā api saḥ sītām mocayet iha
11. yaḥ candram nabhasaḥ bhūmau pātayet vā nāśayeta
vā api sāgaram śoṣayet saḥ iha sītām mocayet
11. Whoever could make the moon fall from the sky to the earth, or destroy it, or even dry up the ocean - only such a one could liberate Sītā here.
गतायुस्त्वं गतश्रीको गतसत्त्वो गतेन्द्रियः ।
लङ्का वैधव्यसंयुक्ता त्वत्कृतेन भविष्यति ॥१२॥
12. gatāyustvaṃ gataśrīko gatasattvo gatendriyaḥ ,
laṅkā vaidhavyasaṃyuktā tvatkṛtena bhaviṣyati.
12. gatāyuḥ tvam gataśrīkaḥ gatasattvaḥ gatendriyaḥ
laṅkā vaidhavyasaṃyuktā tvatkṛtena bhaviṣyati
12. tvam gatāyuḥ gataśrīkaḥ gatasattvaḥ gatendriyaḥ
laṅkā vaidhavyasaṃyuktā tvatkṛtena bhaviṣyati
12. You are one whose life has departed, whose prosperity has vanished, whose courage has faded, and whose control over the senses has gone. Due to your actions, Laṅkā will become widowed.
न ते पापमिदं कर्म सुखोदर्कं भविष्यति ।
याहं नीता विना भावं पतिपार्श्वात्त्वया वनात् ॥१३॥
13. na te pāpamidaṃ karma sukhodarkaṃ bhaviṣyati ,
yāhaṃ nītā vinā bhāvaṃ patipārśvāttvayā vanāt.
13. na te pāpam idam karma sukhodarkam bhaviṣyati yā
aham nītā vinā bhāvam patipārśvāt tvayā vanāt
13. te idam pāpam karma sukhodarkam na bhaviṣyati yā
aham tvayā vanāt patipārśvāt vinā bhāvam nītā
13. This sinful act (karma) of yours will not have a pleasant outcome. For I was taken away by you from my husband's side in the forest without his knowledge.
स हि दैवतसंयुक्तो मम भर्ता महाद्युतिः ।
निर्भयो वीर्यमाश्रित्य शून्ये वसति दण्डके ॥१४॥
14. sa hi daivatasaṃyukto mama bhartā mahādyutiḥ ,
nirbhayo vīryamāśritya śūnye vasati daṇḍake.
14. saḥ hi daivatasaṃyuktaḥ mama bhartā mahādyutiḥ
nirbhayaḥ vīryam āśritya śūnye vasati daṇḍake
14. hi saḥ mama bhartā daivatasaṃyuktaḥ mahādyutiḥ
vīryam āśritya nirbhayaḥ śūnye daṇḍake vasati
14. For indeed, he, my husband, who is endowed with divine power and great splendor, dwells fearlessly in the desolate Daṇḍaka forest, relying on his valor.
स ते दर्पं बलं वीर्यमुत्सेकं च तथाविधम् ।
अपनेष्यति गात्रेभ्यः शरवर्षेण संयुगे ॥१५॥
15. sa te darpaṃ balaṃ vīryamutsekaṃ ca tathāvidham ,
apaneṣyati gātrebhyaḥ śaravarṣeṇa saṃyuge.
15. saḥ te darpam balam vīryam utsekam ca tathāvidham
apaneṣyati gātrebhyaḥ śaravarṣeṇa saṃyuge
15. saḥ te darpam balam vīryam ca tathāvidham
utsekam śaravarṣeṇa saṃyuge gātrebhyaḥ apaneṣyati
15. He will remove your pride, strength, valor, and such haughtiness from your body with a shower of arrows in battle.
यदा विनाशो भूतानां दृश्यते कालचोदितः ।
तदा कार्ये प्रमाद्यन्ति नराः कालवशं गताः ॥१६॥
16. yadā vināśo bhūtānāṃ dṛśyate kālacoditaḥ ,
tadā kārye pramādyanti narāḥ kālavaśaṃ gatāḥ.
16. yadā vināśaḥ bhūtānām dṛśyate kālacoditaḥ
tadā kārye pramādyanti narāḥ kālavaśam gatāḥ
16. yadā bhūtānām kālacoditaḥ vināśaḥ dṛśyate,
tadā kālavaśam gatāḥ narāḥ kārye pramādyanti
16. When the destruction of beings, prompted by time, is seen, then people, having fallen under the influence of time, become heedless in their actions.
मां प्रधृष्य स ते कालः प्राप्तो ऽयं रक्षसाधम ।
आत्मनो राक्षसानां च वधायान्तःपुरस्य च ॥१७॥
17. māṃ pradhṛṣya sa te kālaḥ prāpto'yaṃ rakṣasādhama ,
ātmano rākṣasānāṃ ca vadhāyāntaḥpurasya ca.
17. mām pradhṛṣya sa te kālaḥ prāptaḥ ayam rakṣasādhama
ātmanaḥ rākṣasānām ca vadhāya antaḥpurasya ca
17. rakṣasādhama,
mām pradhṛṣya,
te ayam kālaḥ ātmanaḥ rākṣasānām ca antaḥpurasya ca vadhāya prāptaḥ sa (asti).
17. O vilest of Rākṣasas, by audacious conduct towards me, your fated time has arrived for the destruction of yourself, your Rākṣasas, and your inner palace.
न शक्या यज्ञमध्यस्था वेदिः स्रुग्भाण्ड मण्डिता ।
द्विजातिमन्त्रसंपूता चण्डालेनावमर्दितुम् ॥१८॥
18. na śakyā yajñamadhyasthā vediḥ srugbhāṇḍa maṇḍitā ,
dvijātimantrasaṃpūtā caṇḍālenāvamarditum.
18. na śakyā yajñamadhyasthā vediḥ srukbhāṇḍamaṇḍitā
dvijātimantrasampūtā caṇḍālena avamarditum
18. yajñamadhyasthā srukbhāṇḍamaṇḍitā dvijātimantrasampūtā vediḥ caṇḍālena avamarditum na śakyā.
18. An altar, situated in the midst of a Vedic ritual (yajña), adorned with ladles and vessels, and purified by the sacred incantations (mantra) of Brahmins (dvijāti), cannot be desecrated by an outcaste (caṇḍāla).
इदं शरीरं निःसंज्ञं बन्ध वा घातयस्व वा ।
नेदं शरीरं रक्ष्यं मे जीवितं वापि राक्षस ।
न हि शक्ष्याम्युपक्रोशं पृथिव्यां दातुमात्मनः ॥१९॥
19. idaṃ śarīraṃ niḥsaṃjñaṃ bandha vā ghātayasva vā ,
nedaṃ śarīraṃ rakṣyaṃ me jīvitaṃ vāpi rākṣasa ,
na hi śakṣyāmyupakrośaṃ pṛthivyāṃ dātumātmanaḥ.
19. idam śarīram niḥsaṃjñam bandha vā
ghātayasva vā na idam śarīram rakṣyam
me jīvitam vā api rākṣasa na hi śakṣyāmi
upakrośam pṛthivyām dātum ātmanaḥ
19. rākṣasa,
idam niḥsaṃjñam śarīram vā bandha vā ghātayasva.
me idam śarīram vā jīvitam api na rakṣyam.
hi,
ātmanaḥ upakrośam pṛthivyām dātum na śakṣyāmi.
19. This body is lifeless; either bind it or kill it. This body is not to be protected by me, nor my life either, O Rākṣasa. For I shall certainly not be able to bring infamy upon myself on earth.
एवमुक्त्वा तु वैदेही क्रोद्धात् सुपरुषं वचः ।
रावणं मैथिली तत्र पुनर्नोवाच किं चन ॥२०॥
20. evamuktvā tu vaidehī kroddhāt suparuṣaṃ vacaḥ ,
rāvaṇaṃ maithilī tatra punarnovāca kiṃ cana.
20. evam uktvā tu vaidehī krodhāt suparuṣam vacaḥ
rāvaṇam maithilī tatra punaḥ na uvāca kim cana
20. vaidehī maithilī,
evam krodhāt suparuṣam vacaḥ rāvaṇam uktvā tu,
tatra punaḥ kim cana na uvāca.
20. Having thus spoken extremely harsh words to Rāvaṇa out of anger, Vaidehī (Sītā), at that moment, did not speak anything further.
सीताया वचनं श्रुत्वा परुषं रोमहर्षणम् ।
प्रत्युवाच ततः सीतां भयसंदर्शनं वचः ॥२१॥
21. sītāyā vacanaṃ śrutvā paruṣaṃ romaharṣaṇam ,
pratyuvāca tataḥ sītāṃ bhayasaṃdarśanaṃ vacaḥ.
21. Sītāyāḥ vacanam śrutvā paruṣam romaharṣaṇam
pratyuvāca tataḥ Sītām bhayasaṃdarśanam vacaḥ
21. Sītāyāḥ paruṣam romaharṣaṇam vacanam śrutvā
tataḥ Sītām bhayasaṃdarśanam vacaḥ pratyuvāca
21. Having heard Sītā's harsh, hair-raising words, he then replied to Sītā with words that instilled fear.
शृणु मैथिलि मद्वाक्यं मासान्द्वादश भामिनि ।
कालेनानेन नाभ्येषि यदि मां चारुहासिनि ।
ततस्त्वां प्रातराशार्थं सूदाश्छेत्स्यन्ति लेशशः ॥२२॥
22. śṛṇu maithili madvākyaṃ māsāndvādaśa bhāmini ,
kālenānena nābhyeṣi yadi māṃ cāruhāsini ,
tatastvāṃ prātarāśārthaṃ sūdāśchetsyanti leśaśaḥ.
22. śṛṇu Maithili mat-vākyam māsān dvādaśa
bhāmini kālena anena na abhy-eṣi
yadi mām cāruhāsini tataḥ tvām
prātarāśārtham sūdāḥ chetsyanti leśaśaḥ
22. Maithili bhāmini cāruhāsini śṛṇu
mat-vākyam māsān dvādaśa yadi anena
kālena mām na abhy-eṣi tataḥ tvām
sūdāḥ prātarāśārtham leśaśaḥ chetsyanti
22. Listen, O Maithili (Sītā), O passionate lady! I grant you a period of twelve months. If, by this time, O lady of beautiful smiles, you do not come to me, then the cooks will cut you into pieces for breakfast.
इत्युक्त्वा परुषं वाक्यं रावणः शत्रुरावणः ।
राक्षसीश्च ततः क्रुद्ध इदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥२३॥
23. ityuktvā paruṣaṃ vākyaṃ rāvaṇaḥ śatrurāvaṇaḥ ,
rākṣasīśca tataḥ kruddha idaṃ vacanamabravīt.
23. iti uktvā paruṣam vākyam Rāvaṇaḥ śatrurāvaṇaḥ
rākṣasīḥ ca tataḥ kruddhaḥ idam vacanam abravīt
23. iti paruṣam vākyam uktvā śatrurāvaṇaḥ Rāvaṇaḥ
tataḥ kruddhaḥ ca rākṣasīḥ idam vacanam abravīt
23. Having spoken such harsh words, Rāvaṇa, the tormentor of his enemies, then, enraged, spoke these words to the female demons.
शीघ्रमेवं हि राक्षस्यो विकृता घोरदर्शनाः ।
दर्पमस्या विनेष्यन्तु मांसशोणितभोजनाः ॥२४॥
24. śīghramevaṃ hi rākṣasyo vikṛtā ghoradarśanāḥ ,
darpamasyā vineṣyantu māṃsaśoṇitabhojanāḥ.
24. śīghram evam hi rākṣasyaḥ vikṛtā ghoradarśanāḥ
darpam asyāḥ vineṣyantu māṃsaśoṇitabhojanāḥ
24. hi rākṣasyaḥ vikṛtā ghoradarśanāḥ māṃsaśoṇitabhojanāḥ,
śīghram evam asyāḥ darpam vineṣyantu
24. O monstrous, terrifying female demons, you who feed on flesh and blood, quickly, indeed, thus destroy her arrogance!
वचनादेव तास्तस्य विकृता घोरदर्शनाः ।
कृतप्राञ्जलयो भूत्वा मैथिलीं पर्यवारयन् ॥२५॥
25. vacanādeva tāstasya vikṛtā ghoradarśanāḥ ,
kṛtaprāñjalayo bhūtvā maithilīṃ paryavārayan.
25. vachanāt eva tāḥ tasya vikṛtāḥ ghoradarśanāḥ
kṛtaprāñjalayaḥ bhūtvā maithilīm paryavārayan
25. tasya vachanāt eva vikṛtāḥ ghoradarśanāḥ tāḥ
kṛtaprāñjalayaḥ bhūtvā maithilīm paryavārayan
25. Just by his command, those disfigured, terrifying-looking (rakṣasī) women, having folded their hands in supplication, surrounded Sītā (Maithilī).
स ताः प्रोवाच राजा तु रावणो घोरदर्शनः ।
प्रचाल्य चरणोत्कर्षैर्दारयन्निव मेदिनीम् ॥२६॥
26. sa tāḥ provāca rājā tu rāvaṇo ghoradarśanaḥ ,
pracālya caraṇotkarṣairdārayanniva medinīm.
26. saḥ tāḥ provāca rājā tu rāvaṇaḥ ghoradarśanaḥ
pracālya caraṇotkarṣaiḥ dārayan iva medinīm
26. tu saḥ rājā rāvaṇaḥ ghoradarśanaḥ caraṇotkarṣaiḥ

26. But that King Rāvaṇa, terrifying to behold, spoke to those (rakṣasīs), appearing as if he were splitting the earth by dragging his feet.
अशोकवनिकामध्ये मैथिली नीयतामिति ।
तत्रेयं रक्ष्यतां गूढमुष्माभिः परिवारिता ॥२७॥
27. aśokavanikāmadhye maithilī nīyatāmiti ,
tatreyaṃ rakṣyatāṃ gūḍhamuṣmābhiḥ parivāritā.
27. aśokavanikā madhye maithilī nīyatām iti tatra
iyam rakṣyatām gūḍham uṣmābhiḥ parivāritā
27. maithilī aśokavanikā madhye nīyatām iti tatra
iyam uṣmābhiḥ gūḍham parivāritā rakṣyatām
27. "Let Sītā (Maithilī) be led into the middle of the Ashoka grove (Aśokavanikā)," he said. "There, let her be secretly guarded, surrounded by all of you."
तत्रैनां तर्जनैर्घोरैः पुनः सान्त्वैश्च मैथिलीम् ।
आनयध्वं वशं सर्वा वन्यां गजवधूमिव ॥२८॥
28. tatraināṃ tarjanairghoraiḥ punaḥ sāntvaiśca maithilīm ,
ānayadhvaṃ vaśaṃ sarvā vanyāṃ gajavadhūmiva.
28. tatra enām tarjanaiḥ ghoraiḥ punaḥ sāntvaiḥ ca
maithilīm ānayadhvam vaśam sarvāḥ vanyām gajavadhūm iva
28. tatra sarvāḥ yūyam enām maithilīm ghoraiḥ tarjanaiḥ
punaḥ sāntvaiḥ ca vanyām gajavadhūm iva vaśam ānayadhvam
28. There, all of you, bring Sītā (Maithilī) under your control with fierce threats and also with soothing words, just as one would a wild female elephant.
इति प्रतिसमादिष्टा राक्षस्यो रावणेन ताः ।
अशोकवनिकां जग्मुर्मैथिलीं परिगृह्य ताम् ॥२९॥
29. iti pratisamādiṣṭā rākṣasyo rāvaṇena tāḥ ,
aśokavanikāṃ jagmurmaithilīṃ parigṛhya tām.

29. Having thus been instructed by Ravana, those demonesses took Maithili and went to the Aśoka grove.
सर्वकामफलैर्वृक्षैर्नानापुष्पफलैर्वृताम् ।
सर्वकालमदैश्चापि द्विजैः समुपसेविताम् ॥३०॥
30. sarvakāmaphalairvṛkṣairnānāpuṣpaphalairvṛtām ,
sarvakālamadaiścāpi dvijaiḥ samupasevitām.
30. sarvakāmaphalaiḥ vṛkṣaiḥ nānāpuṣpaphalaiḥ vṛtām
| sarvakālamadaiḥ ca api dvijaiḥ samupasevitām

ca api sarvakālamadaiḥ dvijaiḥ samupasevitām
30. The Aśoka grove was surrounded by trees bearing all desired fruits, and by diverse flowers and fruits; and moreover, it was frequented by birds perpetually joyful.
सा तु शोकपरीताङ्गी मैथिली जनकात्मजा ।
राक्षसी वशमापन्ना व्याघ्रीणां हरिणी यथा ॥३१॥
31. sā tu śokaparītāṅgī maithilī janakātmajā ,
rākṣasī vaśamāpannā vyāghrīṇāṃ hariṇī yathā.
31. sā tu śokaparītāṅgī maithilī janakātmajā |
rākṣasī vaśam āpannā vyāghrīṇām hariṇī yathā
31. tu sā maithilī janakātmajā śokaparītāṅgī rākṣasī-vaśam āpannā,
vyāghrīṇām hariṇī yathā
31. But that Maithili, daughter of Janaka, with a body consumed by sorrow, having fallen into a demoness's power, was like a doe among tigresses.
न विन्दते तत्र तु शर्म मैथिली विरूपनेत्राभिरतीव तर्जिता ।
पतिं स्मरन्ती दयितं च देवरं विचेतनाभूद्भयशोकपीडिता ॥३२॥
32. na vindate tatra tu śarma maithilī virūpanetrābhiratīva tarjitā ,
patiṃ smarantī dayitaṃ ca devaraṃ vicetanābhūdbhayaśokapīḍitā.
32. na vindate tatra tu śarma maithilī
virūpanetrābhiḥ atīva tarjitā
| patim smarantī dayitam ca
devaram vicetanā abhūt bhayaśokapīḍitā
32. tu maithilī virūpanetrābhiḥ atīva tarjitā,
tatra śarma na vindate.
dayitam patim ca devaram smarantī,
bhayaśokapīḍitā vicetanā abhūt.
32. But Maithili found no comfort there, greatly threatened by the demonesses with dreadful eyes. Remembering her beloved husband and brother-in-law, she became unconscious, oppressed by fear and sorrow.
