तथा स्म तेषां वसतामृक्षवानररक्षसाम् ।
राघवस्तु महातेजाः सुग्रीवमिदमब्रवीत् ॥१॥
1. tathā sma teṣāṃ vasatāmṛkṣavānararakṣasām ,

1. While the bears, monkeys, and rākṣasas were thus residing there, Rama (Rāghava), who possessed great splendor, spoke this to Sugriva.
गम्यतां सौम्य किष्किन्धां दुराधर्षं सुरासुरैः ।
पालयस्व सहामात्यै राज्यं निहतकण्टकम् ॥२॥
2. gamyatāṃ saumya kiṣkindhāṃ durādharṣaṃ surāsuraiḥ ,
pālayasva sahāmātyai rājyaṃ nihatakaṇṭakam.
2. gamyatām saumya kiṣkindhām durādharṣam surāsuraiḥ
pālayasva sahāmātyaiḥ rājyam nihatakaṇṭakam

2. Gentle one, proceed to Kiṣkindhā, which is impregnable even by gods and asuras. Rule the kingdom, which is free from enemies, along with your ministers.
अङ्गदं च महाबाहो प्रीत्या परमयान्वितः ।
पश्य त्वं हनुमन्तं च नलं च सुमहाबलम् ॥३॥
3. aṅgadaṃ ca mahābāho prītyā paramayānvitaḥ ,
paśya tvaṃ hanumantaṃ ca nalaṃ ca sumahābalam.
3. aṅgadam ca mahābāho prītyā paramayā anvitaḥ
paśya tvam hanumantam ca nalam ca sumahābalam
3. mahābāho tvam paramayā prītyā anvitaḥ aṅgadam
ca hanumantam ca sumahābalam nalam ca paśya
3. O mighty-armed one, behold Angada, endowed with supreme affection, and also Hanuman, and the very mighty Nala.
सुषेणं श्वशुरं शूरं तारं च बलिनां वरम् ।
कुमुदं चैव दुर्धर्षं नीलं च सुमहाबलम् ॥४॥
4. suṣeṇaṃ śvaśuraṃ śūraṃ tāraṃ ca balināṃ varam ,
kumudaṃ caiva durdharṣaṃ nīlaṃ ca sumahābalam.
4. suṣeṇam śvaśuram śūram tāram ca balinām varam
kumudam ca eva durdharṣam nīlam ca sumahābalam
4. śūram śvaśuram suṣeṇam ca balinām varam tāram ca
durdharṣam kumudam ca eva sumahābalam nīlam ca
4. Behold your brave father-in-law Suṣeṇa, and Tāra, the best among the strong, and also the unassailable Kumuda, and Nīla, who is very mighty.
वीरं शतबलिं चैव मैन्दं द्विविदमेव च ।
गजं गवाक्षं गवयं शरभं च महाबलम् ॥५॥
5. vīraṃ śatabaliṃ caiva maindaṃ dvividameva ca ,
gajaṃ gavākṣaṃ gavayaṃ śarabhaṃ ca mahābalam.
5. vīram śatabalim ca eva maindam dvividam eva ca
gajam gavākṣam gavayam śarabham ca mahābalam
5. vīram śatabalim ca eva maindam dvividam eva ca
gajam gavākṣam gavayam ca mahābalam śarabham ca
5. Behold the brave Śatabali, and also Mainda, and Dvivida, Gaja, Gavākṣa, Gavaya, and the mighty Śarabha.
ऋक्षराजं च दुर्धर्षं जाम्बवन्तं महाबलम् ।
पश्य प्रीतिसमायुक्तो गन्धमादनमेव च ॥६॥
6. ṛkṣarājaṃ ca durdharṣaṃ jāmbavantaṃ mahābalam ,
paśya prītisamāyukto gandhamādanameva ca.
6. ṛkṣarājam ca durdharṣam jāmbavantam mahābalam
paśya prītisamāyuktaḥ gandhamādanam eva ca
6. prītisamāyuktaḥ durdharṣam ṛkṣarājam ca mahābalam
jāmbavantam ca gandhamādanam eva ca paśya
6. Filled with affection, behold the unconquerable king of bears, Jambavan, of great strength, and also Gandhamādana.
ये चान्ये सुमहात्मानो मदर्थे त्यक्तजीविताः ।
पश्य त्वं प्रीतिसंयुक्तो मा चैषां विप्रियं कृथाः ॥७॥
7. ye cānye sumahātmāno madarthe tyaktajīvitāḥ ,
paśya tvaṃ prītisaṃyukto mā caiṣāṃ vipriyaṃ kṛthāḥ.
7. ye ca anye sumahātmānaḥ madarthe tyaktajīvitāḥ
paśya tvam prītisamyuktaḥ mā ca eṣām vipriyam kṛthāḥ
7. ca tvam prītisamyuktaḥ ye anye sumahātmānaḥ madarthe
tyaktajīvitāḥ paśya ca eṣām vipriyam mā kṛthāḥ
7. And you, filled with affection, behold those other great-souled (mahātman) individuals who have given up their lives for my sake. And do not cause any disservice to them.
एवमुक्त्वा च सुग्रीवं प्रशस्य च पुनः पुनः ।
विभीषणमथोवाच रामो मधुरया गिरा ॥८॥
8. evamuktvā ca sugrīvaṃ praśasya ca punaḥ punaḥ ,
vibhīṣaṇamathovāca rāmo madhurayā girā.
8. evam uktvā ca sugrīvam praśasya ca punaḥ punaḥ
vibhīṣaṇam atha uvāca rāmaḥ madhurayā girā
8. rāmaḥ evam sugrīvam uktvā ca punaḥ punaḥ
praśasya ca atha madhurayā girā vibhīṣaṇam uvāca
8. Having thus spoken to Sugriva and praised him repeatedly, Rama then addressed Vibhishana with sweet words.
तङ्कां प्रशाधि धर्मेण संमतो ह्यसि पार्थिव ।
पुरस्य राक्षसानां च भ्रातुर्वैश्वरणस्य च ॥९॥
9. taṅkāṃ praśādhi dharmeṇa saṃmato hyasi pārthiva ,
purasya rākṣasānāṃ ca bhrāturvaiśvaraṇasya ca.
9. tām laṅkām praśādhi dharmeṇa sammataḥ hi asi pārthiva
purasya rākṣasānām ca bhrātuḥ vaiśvaraṇasya ca
9. pārthiva tām laṅkām dharmeṇa praśādhi hi purasya ca
rākṣasānām ca bhrātuḥ vaiśvaraṇasya ca sammataḥ asi
9. Rule this Laṅkā righteously (dharma), for you are indeed approved, O king, by the city and the rākṣasas, and by your brother Vaiśravaṇa (Kubera).
मा च बुद्धिमधर्मे त्वं कुर्या राजन् कथं चन ।
बुद्धिमन्तो हि राजानो ध्रुवमश्नन्ति मेदिनीम् ॥१०॥
10. mā ca buddhimadharme tvaṃ kuryā rājan kathaṃ cana ,
buddhimanto hi rājāno dhruvamaśnanti medinīm.
10. mā ca buddhim adharme tvam kuryāḥ rājan katham cana
buddhimantaḥ hi rājānaḥ dhruvam aśnanti medinīm
10. rājan tvam buddhim adharme katham cana mā kuryāḥ
hi buddhimantaḥ rājānaḥ dhruvam medinīm aśnanti
10. O king, never let your intellect incline towards unrighteousness (adharma) in any way. For truly, intelligent kings certainly attain sovereignty over the earth.
अहं च नित्यशो राजन् सुग्रीवसहितस्त्वया ।
स्मर्तव्यः परया प्रीत्या गच्छ त्वं विगतज्वरः ॥११॥
11. ahaṃ ca nityaśo rājan sugrīvasahitastvayā ,
smartavyaḥ parayā prītyā gaccha tvaṃ vigatajvaraḥ.
11. aham ca nityaśaḥ rājan sugrīvasahitaḥ tvayā
smartavyaḥ parayā prītyā gaccha tvam vigatajvaraḥ
11. rājan ca aham sugrīvasahitaḥ tvayā parayā prītyā
nityaśaḥ smartavyaḥ tvam vigatajvaraḥ gaccha
11. O king, I, along with Sugrīva, should always be remembered by you with supreme affection. Now go, free from all anxiety.
रामस्य भाषितं श्रुत्वा ऋष्कवानरराक्षसाः ।
साधु साध्विति काकुत्स्थं प्रशशंसुः पुनः पुनः ॥१२॥
12. rāmasya bhāṣitaṃ śrutvā ṛṣkavānararākṣasāḥ ,
sādhu sādhviti kākutsthaṃ praśaśaṃsuḥ punaḥ punaḥ.
12. rāmasya bhāṣitam śrutvā ṛṣkavānararākṣasāḥ sādhu
sādhu iti kākutstham praśaśaṃsuḥ punaḥ punaḥ
12. ṛṣkavānararākṣasāḥ rāmasya bhāṣitam śrutvā sādhu
sādhu iti kākutstham punaḥ punaḥ praśaśaṃsuḥ
12. Having heard Rāma's words, the bears, monkeys, and rākṣasas praised Kakutstha (Rāma) again and again, saying, "Excellent! Excellent!"
तव बुद्धिर्महाबाहो वीर्यमद्भुतमेव च ।
माधुर्यं परमं राम स्वयम्भोरिव नित्यदा ॥१३॥
13. tava buddhirmahābāho vīryamadbhutameva ca ,
mādhuryaṃ paramaṃ rāma svayambhoriva nityadā.
13. tava buddhiḥ mahābāho vīryam adbhutam eva ca
mādhuryam paramam rāma svayambhoḥ iva nityadā
13. mahābāho rāma tava buddhiḥ adbhutam eva vīryam
ca paramam mādhuryam ca nityadā svayambhoḥ iva
13. O mighty-armed one, your intellect, your truly amazing valor, and your supreme sweetness, O Rāma, are always like those of the Self-existent (Svayambhū).
तेषामेवं ब्रुवाणानां वानराणां च रक्षसाम् ।
हनूमत्प्रणतो भूत्वा राघवं वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥१४॥
14. teṣāmevaṃ bruvāṇānāṃ vānarāṇāṃ ca rakṣasām ,
hanūmatpraṇato bhūtvā rāghavaṃ vākyamabravīt.
14. teṣām evam bruvāṇānām vānarāṇām ca rakṣasām
hanūmat praṇataḥ bhūtvā rāghavam vākyam abravīt
14. hanūmat praṇataḥ bhūtvā rāghavam vākyam abravīt
teṣām evam bruvāṇānām vānarāṇām ca rakṣasām
14. While the monkeys and the demons were thus speaking, Hanumat, having bowed down, addressed Rāghava with these words.
स्नेहो मे परमो राजंस्त्वयि नित्यं प्रतिष्ठितः ।
भक्तिश्च नियता वीर भावो नान्यत्र गच्छति ॥१५॥
15. sneho me paramo rājaṃstvayi nityaṃ pratiṣṭhitaḥ ,
bhaktiśca niyatā vīra bhāvo nānyatra gacchati.
15. snehaḥ me paramaḥ rājan tvayi nityam pratiṣṭhitaḥ
bhaktiḥ ca niyatā vīra bhāvaḥ na anyatra gacchati
15. rājan vīra me paramaḥ snehaḥ tvayi nityam pratiṣṭhitaḥ
ca niyatā bhaktiḥ bhāvaḥ na anyatra gacchati
15. My supreme affection, O King, is eternally fixed in you. And my unwavering devotion (bhakti), O hero, my feelings do not waver elsewhere.
यावद् रामकथां वीर श्रोष्ये ऽहं पृथिवीतले ।
तावच्छरीरे वत्स्यन्तु मम प्राणा न संशयः ॥१६॥
16. yāvad rāmakathāṃ vīra śroṣye'haṃ pṛthivītale ,
tāvaccharīre vatsyantu mama prāṇā na saṃśayaḥ.
16. yāvat rāmakathām vīra śroṣye aham pṛthivītale
tāvat śarīre vatsyantu mama prāṇāḥ na saṃśayaḥ
16. vīra yāvat aham pṛthivītale rāmakathām śroṣye
tāvat mama prāṇāḥ śarīre vatsyantu na saṃśayaḥ
16. As long as I, O hero, hear the story of Rāma on the earth, so long may my life-breaths (prāṇa) remain in my body; there is no doubt about it.
एवं ब्रुवाणं राजेन्द्रो हनूमन्तमथासनात् ।
उत्थाय च परिष्वज्य वाक्यमेतदुवाच ह ॥१७॥
17. evaṃ bruvāṇaṃ rājendro hanūmantamathāsanāt ,
utthāya ca pariṣvajya vākyametaduvāca ha.
17. evam bruvāṇam rājendraḥ hanūmantam atha āsanāt
utthāya ca pariṣvajya vākyam etat uvāca ha
17. rājendraḥ evam bruvāṇam hanūmantam atha āsanāt
utthāya ca pariṣvajya etat vākyam uvāca ha
17. To Hanumat, who spoke thus, the king of kings (Rāma) then rose from his seat, embraced him, and spoke these words.
एवमेतत् कपिश्रेष्ठ भविता नात्र संशयः ।
लोका हि यावत् स्थास्यन्ति तावत् स्थास्यति मे कथा ॥१८॥
18. evametat kapiśreṣṭha bhavitā nātra saṃśayaḥ ,
lokā hi yāvat sthāsyanti tāvat sthāsyati me kathā.
18. evam etat kapiśreṣṭha bhavitā na atra saṃśayaḥ
lokāḥ hi yāvat sthāsyanti tāvat sthāsyati me kathā
18. he kapiśreṣṭha,
evam etat bhavitā atra saṃśayaḥ na hi yāvat lokāḥ sthāsyanti tāvat me kathā sthāsyati
18. O best of monkeys, this will certainly be so; there is no doubt about it. Indeed, as long as the worlds endure, so long will my story exist.
चरिष्यति कथा यावल् लोकानेषा हि मामिका ।
तावच्छरीरे वत्स्यन्ति प्राणास्तव न संशयः ॥१९॥
19. cariṣyati kathā yāval lokāneṣā hi māmikā ,
tāvaccharīre vatsyanti prāṇāstava na saṃśayaḥ.
19. cariṣyati kathā yāvat lokān eṣā hi māmikā
tāvat śarīre vatsyanti prāṇāḥ tava na saṃśayaḥ
19. hi yāvat eṣā māmikā kathā lokān cariṣyati
tāvat tava śarīre prāṇāḥ vatsyanti na saṃśayaḥ
19. Indeed, as long as this story of mine circulates among the people, so long will your vital breaths remain in your body; there is no doubt about it.
ततो ऽस्य हारं चन्द्राभं मुच्य कण्ठात् स राघवः ।
वैदूर्यतरलं स्नेहादाबबन्धे हनूमति ॥२०॥
20. tato'sya hāraṃ candrābhaṃ mucya kaṇṭhāt sa rāghavaḥ ,
vaidūryataralaṃ snehādābabandhe hanūmati.
20. tataḥ asya hāram candrābham mucya kaṇṭhāt saḥ
rāghavaḥ vaidūryataralam snehāt ābabandhe hanūmati
20. tataḥ saḥ rāghavaḥ snehāt asya kaṇṭhāt mucya
candrābham vaidūryataralam hāram hanūmati ābabandhe
20. Then, out of affection, that descendant of Raghu (Rāghava) removed the moon-like necklace, which had a sapphire pendant, from his own neck and fastened it onto Hanumān.
तेनोरसि निबद्धेन हारेण स महाकपिः ।
रराज हेमशैलेन्द्रश्चन्द्रेणाक्रान्तमस्तकः ॥२१॥
21. tenorasi nibaddhena hāreṇa sa mahākapiḥ ,
rarāja hemaśailendraścandreṇākrāntamastakaḥ.
21. tena urasi nibaddhena hāreṇa saḥ mahākapiḥ
rarāja hemaśailendraḥ candreṇa ākrāntamastakaḥ
21. urasi tena nibaddhena hāreṇa saḥ mahākapiḥ
candreṇa ākrāntamastakaḥ hemaśailendraḥ iva rarāja
21. With that necklace fastened on his chest, that great monkey (Hanumān) shone splendidly, resembling the lord of golden mountains (Meru) whose peak is graced by the moon.
श्रुत्वा तु राघवस्यैतदुत्थायोत्थाय वानराः ।
प्रणम्य शिरसा पादौ प्रजग्मुस्ते महाबलाः ॥२२॥
22. śrutvā tu rāghavasyaitadutthāyotthāya vānarāḥ ,
praṇamya śirasā pādau prajagmuste mahābalāḥ.
22. śrutvā tu rāghavasya etat utthāya utthāya vānarāḥ
praṇamya śirasā pādau prajagmuḥ te mahābalāḥ
22. te mahābalāḥ vānarāḥ rāghavasya etat śrutvā
utthāya utthāya śirasā pādau praṇamya tu prajagmuḥ
22. After hearing this from Rāghava, those mighty monkeys rose up one by one, bowed their heads to his feet, and then departed.
सुग्रीवश्चैव रामेण परिष्वक्तो महाभुजः ।
विभीषणश्च धर्मात्मा निरन्तरमुरोगतः ॥२३॥
23. sugrīvaścaiva rāmeṇa pariṣvakto mahābhujaḥ ,
vibhīṣaṇaśca dharmātmā nirantaramurogataḥ.
23. sugrīvaḥ ca eva rāmeṇa pariṣvaktaḥ mahābhujaḥ
vibhīṣaṇaḥ ca dharmātmā nirantaram urogataḥ
23. mahābhujaḥ sugrīvaḥ ca eva rāmeṇa pariṣvaktaḥ
ca dharmātmā vibhīṣaṇaḥ nirantaram urogataḥ
23. And the mighty-armed Sugrīva was embraced by Rāma. And Vibhīṣaṇa, whose intrinsic nature (dharma) was righteousness, remained constantly close to his chest.
सर्वे च ते बाष्पगलाः साश्रुनेत्रा विचेतसः ।
संमूढा इव दुःखेन त्यजन्ते राघवं तदा ॥२४॥
24. sarve ca te bāṣpagalāḥ sāśrunetrā vicetasaḥ ,
saṃmūḍhā iva duḥkhena tyajante rāghavaṃ tadā.
24. sarve ca te bāṣpagalāḥ sāśrunetrāḥ vicetasaḥ
saṃmūḍhāḥ iva duḥkhena tyajante rāghavam tadā
24. ca te sarve bāṣpagalāḥ sāśrunetrāḥ vicetasaḥ
duḥkhena saṃmūḍhāḥ iva tadā rāghavam tyajante
24. And all of them, with throats choked with tears, with tearful eyes, and distraught minds, as if utterly bewildered by sorrow, were then leaving Rāghava (Rāma).
