ततो वैश्रवणो राजा यमश्चामित्रकर्शनः ।
सहस्राक्षो महेन्द्रश्च वरुणश्च परंतपः ॥१॥

1. Then King Vaiśravaṇa (Kubera), along with Yama, the vanquisher of adversaries, Mahendra (Indra) of a thousand eyes, and Varuṇa, the tormentor of enemies (arrived).
षडर्धनयनः श्रीमान्महादेवो वृषध्वजः ।
कर्ता सर्वस्य लोकस्य ब्रह्मा ब्रह्मविदां वरः ॥२॥
2. ṣaḍardhanayanaḥ śrīmānmahādevo vṛṣadhvajaḥ ,
kartā sarvasya lokasya brahmā brahmavidāṃ varaḥ.

2. The illustrious Mahādeva (Shiva), who has three eyes and a bull as his emblem; and Brahmā, the creator of all beings, the foremost among the knowers of the ultimate reality (brahman).
एते सर्वे समागम्य विमानैः सूर्यसंनिभैः ।
आगम्य नगरीं लङ्कामभिजग्मुश्च राघवम् ॥३॥
3. ete sarve samāgamya vimānaiḥ sūryasaṃnibhaiḥ ,
āgamya nagarīṃ laṅkāmabhijagmuśca rāghavam.
3. ete sarve samāgamya vimānaiḥ sūryasaṃnibhaiḥ
āgamya nagarīm laṅkām abhijagmuḥ ca rāghavam

3. All these (deities), having gathered, arrived at the city of Laṅkā in their sun-like aerial chariots, and then approached Rāghava (Rāma).
ततः सहस्ताभरणान्प्रगृह्य विपुलान्भुजान् ।
अब्रुवंस्त्रिदशश्रेष्ठाः प्राञ्जलिं राघवं स्थितम् ॥४॥
4. tataḥ sahastābharaṇānpragṛhya vipulānbhujān ,
abruvaṃstridaśaśreṣṭhāḥ prāñjaliṃ rāghavaṃ sthitam.

4. Then, the foremost of the gods, holding their mighty arms adorned with bracelets, spoke to Rāma, who stood with folded hands.
कर्ता सर्वस्य लोकस्य श्रेष्ठो ज्ञानवतां वरः ।
उपेक्षसे कथं सीतां पतन्तीं हव्यवाहने ।
कथं देवगणश्रेष्ठमात्मानं नावबुध्यसे ॥५॥
5. kartā sarvasya lokasya śreṣṭho jñānavatāṃ varaḥ ,
upekṣase kathaṃ sītāṃ patantīṃ havyavāhane ,
kathaṃ devagaṇaśreṣṭhamātmānaṃ nāvabudhyase.

katham havyavāhane patantīm sītām upekṣase? katham devagaṇaśreṣṭham ātmānam na avabudhyase?
5. You are the creator of all beings, the best and foremost among the wise. How can you disregard Sītā as she falls into the fire? Why do you not recognize your own self (ātman) as the supreme among the gods?
ऋतधामा वसुः पूर्वं वसूनां च प्रजापतिः ।
त्वं त्रयाणां हि लोकानामादिकर्ता स्वयंप्रभुः ॥६॥
6. ṛtadhāmā vasuḥ pūrvaṃ vasūnāṃ ca prajāpatiḥ ,
tvaṃ trayāṇāṃ hi lokānāmādikartā svayaṃprabhuḥ.
6. ṛtadhāmā vasuḥ pūrvam vasūnām ca prajāpatiḥ
tvam trayāṇām hi lokānām ādikartā svayaṃprabhuḥ
6. tvam ṛtadhāmā vasuḥ pūrvam ca vasūnām prajāpatiḥ.
hi tvam trayāṇām lokānām ādikartā svayaṃprabhuḥ.
6. You are Ṛtadhāman, previously counted among the Vasus, and the Prajāpati (lord of creatures) of the Vasus. Indeed, you are the original creator of the three worlds, the self-existent sovereign.
रुद्राणामष्टमो रुद्रः साध्यानामपि पञ्चमः ।
अश्विनौ चापि ते कर्णौ चन्द्रसूर्यौ च चक्षुषी ॥७॥
7. rudrāṇāmaṣṭamo rudraḥ sādhyānāmapi pañcamaḥ ,
aśvinau cāpi te karṇau candrasūryau ca cakṣuṣī.
7. rudrāṇām aṣṭamaḥ rudraḥ sādhyānām api pañcamaḥ
aśvinau ca api te karṇau candrasūryau ca cakṣuṣī
7. rudrāṇām aṣṭamaḥ rudraḥ.
api sādhyānām pañcamaḥ.
te karṇau ca api aśvinau.
cakṣuṣī ca candrasūryau.
7. You are the eighth of the Rudras, and also the fifth among the Sādhyas. The Aśvins are your ears, and the Moon and Sun are your eyes.
अन्ते चादौ च लोकानां दृश्यसे त्वं परंतप ।
उपेक्षसे च वैदेहीं मानुषः प्राकृतो यथा ॥८॥
8. ante cādau ca lokānāṃ dṛśyase tvaṃ paraṃtapa ,
upekṣase ca vaidehīṃ mānuṣaḥ prākṛto yathā.
8. ante ca ādau ca lokānām dṛśyase tvam paraṃtapa
upekṣase ca vaidehīm mānuṣaḥ prākṛtaḥ yathā
8. paraṃtapa tvam lokānām ādau ca ante ca dṛśyase

8. O tormentor of foes, you are seen at the beginning and at the end of all worlds. Yet, you neglect Vaidehī, just like an ordinary human being.
इत्युक्तो लोकपालैस्तैः स्वामी लोकस्य राघवः ।
अब्रवीत्त्रिदशश्रेष्ठान् रामो धर्मभृतां वरः ॥९॥
9. ityukto lokapālaistaiḥ svāmī lokasya rāghavaḥ ,
abravīttridaśaśreṣṭhān rāmo dharmabhṛtāṃ varaḥ.
9. iti uktaḥ lokapālaiḥ taiḥ svāmī lokasya rāghavaḥ
abravīt tridaśaśreṣṭhān rāmaḥ dharmabhṛtām varaḥ
9. iti taiḥ lokapālaiḥ uktaḥ lokasya svāmī rāghavaḥ
dharmabhṛtām varaḥ rāmaḥ tridaśaśreṣṭhān abravīt
9. Thus addressed by those guardians of the worlds, Rāghava, the lord of the world, and Rāma, the best among those who uphold the natural law (dharma), spoke to the foremost of the gods.
आत्मानं मानुषं मन्ये रामं दशरथात्मजम् ।
यो ऽहं यस्य यतश्चाहं भगवांस्तद्ब्रवीतु मे ॥१०॥
10. ātmānaṃ mānuṣaṃ manye rāmaṃ daśarathātmajam ,
yo'haṃ yasya yataścāhaṃ bhagavāṃstadbravītu me.
10. ātmānam mānuṣam manye rāmam daśarathātmajam yaḥ
aham yasya yataḥ ca aham bhagavān tat bravītu me
10. aham ātmānam rāmam daśarathātmajam mānuṣam manye
bhagavān aham yaḥ yasya yataḥ ca tat me bravītu
10. I consider myself a human, Rāma, the son of Daśaratha. O Lord, please tell me who I truly am, whose I am, and from where I originate.
इति ब्रुवाणं काकुत्स्थं ब्रह्मा ब्रह्मविदां वरः ।
अब्रवीच्छृणु मे राम सत्यं सत्यपराक्रम ॥११॥
11. iti bruvāṇaṃ kākutsthaṃ brahmā brahmavidāṃ varaḥ ,
abravīcchṛṇu me rāma satyaṃ satyaparākrama.
11. iti bruvāṇam kākutstham brahmā brahmavidām
varaḥ abravīt śṛṇu me rāma satyam satyaparākrama
11. iti bruvāṇam kākutstham brahmavidām varaḥ brahmā
abravīt rāma satyaparākrama me satyam śṛṇu
11. To Kākutstha (Rāma) who was speaking thus, Brahmā, the foremost among the knowers of the ultimate reality (brahman), said: "Listen to me, Rāma, O warrior of truth!"
भवान्नारायणो देवः श्रीमांश्चक्रायुधो विभुः ।
एकशृङ्गो वराहस्त्वं भूतभव्यसपत्नजित् ॥१२॥
12. bhavānnārāyaṇo devaḥ śrīmāṃścakrāyudho vibhuḥ ,
ekaśṛṅgo varāhastvaṃ bhūtabhavyasapatnajit.
12. bhavān nārāyaṇaḥ devaḥ śrīmān cakrāyudhaḥ vibhuḥ
ekaśṛṅgaḥ varāhaḥ tvam bhūtabhavyasapatnajit
12. bhavān nārāyaṇaḥ devaḥ śrīmān cakrāyudhaḥ vibhuḥ
tvam ekaśṛṅgaḥ varāhaḥ bhūtabhavyasapatnajit
12. You are the god Nārāyaṇa, glorious, bearing the disc weapon, and all-pervading. You are the single-horned boar (varāha), the conqueror of all past and future adversaries.
अक्षरं ब्रह्मसत्यं च मध्ये चान्ते च राघव ।
लोकानां त्वं परो धर्मो विष्वक्सेनश्चतुर्भुजः ॥१३॥
13. akṣaraṃ brahmasatyaṃ ca madhye cānte ca rāghava ,
lokānāṃ tvaṃ paro dharmo viṣvaksenaścaturbhujaḥ.
13. akṣaram brahma satyam ca madhye ca ante ca rāghava
lokānām tvam paraḥ dharmaḥ viṣvaksenaḥ caturbhujaḥ
13. rāghava tvam akṣaram brahma satyam ca madhye ca ante
ca lokānām paraḥ dharmaḥ viṣvaksenaḥ caturbhujaḥ
13. O Rāghava, you are the imperishable (brahman), the truth (satya), existing in the beginning, middle, and end. You are the supreme natural law (dharma) for all worlds, Viṣvaksena, and the four-armed one.
शार्ङ्गधन्वा हृषीकेशः पुरुषः पुरुषोत्तमः ।
अजितः खड्गधृग्विष्णुः कृष्णश्चैव बृहद्बलः ॥१४॥
14. śārṅgadhanvā hṛṣīkeśaḥ puruṣaḥ puruṣottamaḥ ,
ajitaḥ khaḍgadhṛgviṣṇuḥ kṛṣṇaścaiva bṛhadbalaḥ.
14. śārṅgadhanvā hṛṣīkeśaḥ puruṣaḥ puruṣottamaḥ
ajitaḥ khaḍgadhṛk viṣṇuḥ kṛṣṇaḥ ca eva bṛhadbalaḥ
14. tvam śārṅgadhanvā hṛṣīkeśaḥ puruṣaḥ puruṣottamaḥ
ajitaḥ khaḍgadhṛk viṣṇuḥ kṛṣṇaḥ ca eva bṛhadbalaḥ
14. You are the wielder of the Śārṅga bow, Hṛṣīkeśa (master of the senses), the cosmic person (puruṣa), the supreme person (puruṣottama). You are unconquered, the sword-bearer Viṣṇu, and also Kṛṣṇa, the immensely powerful.
सेनानीर्ग्रामणीश्च त्वं बुद्धिः सत्त्वं क्षमा दमः ।
प्रभवश्चाप्ययश्च त्वमुपेन्द्रो मधुसूदनः ॥१५॥
15. senānīrgrāmaṇīśca tvaṃ buddhiḥ sattvaṃ kṣamā damaḥ ,
prabhavaścāpyayaśca tvamupendro madhusūdanaḥ.
15. senānīḥ grāmaṇīḥ ca tvam buddhiḥ sattvam kṣamā damaḥ
prabhavaḥ ca apyayaḥ ca tvam upendraḥ madhusūdanaḥ
15. tvam senānīḥ grāmaṇīḥ ca buddhiḥ sattvam kṣamā damaḥ
tvam prabhavaḥ ca apyayaḥ ca upendraḥ madhusūdanaḥ
15. You are the army commander and the village chief, you are intellect, goodness (sattva), patience, and self-control. You are the origin and the dissolution, Upendra, and Madhusūdana (slayer of Madhu).
इन्द्रकर्मा महेन्द्रस्त्वं पद्मनाभो रणान्तकृत् ।
शरण्यं शरणं च त्वामाहुर्दिव्या महर्षयः ॥१६॥
16. indrakarmā mahendrastvaṃ padmanābho raṇāntakṛt ,
śaraṇyaṃ śaraṇaṃ ca tvāmāhurdivyā maharṣayaḥ.
16. indrakarmā mahendraḥ tvam padmanābhaḥ raṇāntakṛt
śaraṇyam śaraṇaṃ ca tvām āhuḥ divyā maharṣayaḥ
16. divyā maharṣayaḥ tvām indrakarmā mahendraḥ
padmanābhaḥ raṇāntakṛt śaraṇyam ca śaraṇaṃ ca āhuḥ
16. You are Mahendra, performing deeds like Indra, the lotus-navelled one (Padmanābha), and the one who ends battles. The divine great sages (maharṣayaḥ) declare you to be the ultimate protector and refuge.
सहस्रशृङ्गो वेदात्मा शतजिह्वो महर्षभः ।
त्वं यज्ञस्त्वं वषट्कारस्त्वमोंकारः परंतप ॥१७॥
17. sahasraśṛṅgo vedātmā śatajihvo maharṣabhaḥ ,
tvaṃ yajñastvaṃ vaṣaṭkārastvamoṃkāraḥ paraṃtapa.
17. sahasraśṛṅgaḥ vedātmā śatajihvaḥ maharṣabhaḥ tvam
yajñaḥ tvam vaṣaṭkāraḥ tvam oṅkāraḥ paraṃtapa
17. paraṃtapa tvam sahasraśṛṅgaḥ vedātmā śatajihvaḥ
maharṣabhaḥ tvam yajñaḥ tvam vaṣaṭkāraḥ tvam oṅkāraḥ
17. O scorcher of foes, you are thousand-horned, whose essence is the Vedas (vedātmā), hundred-tongued, and the great bull. You are the Vedic ritual (yajña), you are the 'Vaṣaṭ' invocation (vaṣaṭkāra), and you are the sacred syllable Om (oṃkāra).
प्रभवं निधनं वा ते न विदुः को भवानिति ।
दृश्यसे सर्वभूतेषु ब्राह्मणेषु च गोषु च ॥१८॥
18. prabhavaṃ nidhanaṃ vā te na viduḥ ko bhavāniti ,
dṛśyase sarvabhūteṣu brāhmaṇeṣu ca goṣu ca.
18. prabhavaṃ nidhanaṃ vā te na viduḥ kaḥ bhavān
iti dṛśyase sarvabhūteṣu brāhmaṇeṣu ca goṣu ca
18. te prabhavaṃ vā nidhanaṃ na viduḥ bhavān kaḥ
iti sarvabhūteṣu brāhmaṇeṣu ca goṣu ca dṛśyase
18. Neither your origin nor your end is known; no one understands who you are. You are seen among all beings, among brahmins, and among cows.
दिक्षु सर्वासु गगने पर्वतेषु वनेषु च ।
सहस्रचरणः श्रीमाञ् शतशीर्षः सहस्रधृक् ॥१९॥
19. dikṣu sarvāsu gagane parvateṣu vaneṣu ca ,
sahasracaraṇaḥ śrīmāñ śataśīrṣaḥ sahasradhṛk.
19. dikṣu sarvāsu gagane parvateṣu vaneṣu ca
sahasracaraṇaḥ śrīmān śataśīrṣaḥ sahasradhṛk
19. sarvāsu dikṣu gagane parvateṣu vaneṣu ca
sahasracaraṇaḥ śrīmān śataśīrṣaḥ sahasradhṛk
19. You are present in all directions, in the sky, on mountains, and in forests; you are thousand-footed, glorious (śrīmān), hundred-headed, and thousand-sustaining.
त्वं धारयसि भूतानि वसुधां च सपर्वताम् ।
अन्ते पृथिव्याः सलिले दृश्यसे त्वं महोरगः ॥२०॥
20. tvaṃ dhārayasi bhūtāni vasudhāṃ ca saparvatām ,
ante pṛthivyāḥ salile dṛśyase tvaṃ mahoragaḥ.
20. tvam dhārayasi bhūtāni vasudhām ca saparvatām
ante pṛthivyāḥ salile dṛśyase tvam mahoragaḥ
20. You sustain all beings and the earth along with its mountains. At the end of an eon, you are seen in the waters as the great serpent (mahoraga).
त्रींल् लोकान्धारयन् राम देवगन्धर्वदानवान् ।
अहं ते हृदयं राम जिह्वा देवी सरस्वती ॥२१॥
21. trīṃl lokāndhārayan rāma devagandharvadānavān ,
ahaṃ te hṛdayaṃ rāma jihvā devī sarasvatī.
21. trīn lokān dhārayan rāma devagandharvadānavān
aham te hṛdayam rāma jihvā devī sarasvatī
21. O Rāma, you sustain the three worlds, including the gods, gandharvas, and dānavas. O Rāma, I am your heart, and the goddess Sarasvatī is your tongue.
देवा गात्रेषु लोमानि निर्मिता ब्रह्मणा प्रभो ।
निमेषस्ते ऽभवद् रात्रिरुन्मेषस्ते ऽभवद्दिवा ॥२२॥
22. devā gātreṣu lomāni nirmitā brahmaṇā prabho ,
nimeṣaste'bhavad rātrirunmeṣaste'bhavaddivā.
22. devā gātreṣu lomāni nirmitā brahmaṇā prabho
nimeṣaḥ te abhavat rātriḥ unmeṣaḥ te abhavat divā
22. O Lord (prabho), the hairs on your limbs were created as gods (deva) by Brahmā. Your closing of the eyes became night, and your opening of the eyes became day.
संस्कारास्ते ऽभवन् वेदा न तदस्ति त्वया विना ।
जगत् सर्वं शरीरं ते स्थैर्यं ते वसुधातलम् ॥२३॥
23. saṃskārāste'bhavan vedā na tadasti tvayā vinā ,
jagat sarvaṃ śarīraṃ te sthairyaṃ te vasudhātalam.
23. saṃskārāḥ te abhavan vedā na tat asti tvayā vinā
jagat sarvam śarīram te sthairyam te vasudhātalam
23. Your purificatory rites (saṃskāra) became the Vedas. Nothing exists without you. The entire universe is your body, and the surface of the earth is your steadfastness.
अग्निः कोपः प्रसादस्ते सोमः श्रीवत्सलक्षण ।
त्वया लोकास्त्रयः क्रान्ताः पुराणे विक्रमैस्त्रिभिः ॥२४॥
24. agniḥ kopaḥ prasādaste somaḥ śrīvatsalakṣaṇa ,
tvayā lokāstrayaḥ krāntāḥ purāṇe vikramaistribhiḥ.
24. agniḥ kopaḥ prasādaḥ te somaḥ śrīvatsalakṣaṇa
tvayā lokāḥ trayaḥ krāntāḥ purāṇe vikramaiḥ tribhiḥ
24. te kopaḥ agniḥ te prasādaḥ somaḥ śrīvatsalakṣaṇa
tvayā purāṇe tribhiḥ vikramaiḥ trayaḥ lokāḥ krāntāḥ
24. Your anger is like fire, and your grace is like Soma (the moon). You are marked with the Śrīvatsa symbol. In ancient times, you traversed the three worlds with your three steps.
महेन्द्रश्च कृतो राजा बलिं बद्ध्वा महासुरम् ।
सीता लक्ष्मीर्भवान् विष्णुर्देवः कृष्णः प्रजापतिः ॥२५॥
25. mahendraśca kṛto rājā baliṃ baddhvā mahāsuram ,
sītā lakṣmīrbhavān viṣṇurdevaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ prajāpatiḥ.
25. mahendraḥ ca kṛtaḥ rājā balim baddhvā mahāsuram
sītā lakṣmīḥ bhavān viṣṇuḥ devaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ prajāpatiḥ
25. mahāsuram balim baddhvā ca mahendraḥ rājā kṛtaḥ
sītā lakṣmīḥ bhavān viṣṇuḥ devaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ prajāpatiḥ
25. And Mahendra was made king after you bound the great demon Bali. Sītā is Lakṣmī; you are Viṣṇu, the deity Kṛṣṇa, the lord of creatures (prajāpati).
वधार्थं रावणस्येह प्रविष्टो मानुषीं तनुम् ।
तदिदं नः कृतं कार्यं त्वया धर्मभृतां वर ॥२६॥
26. vadhārthaṃ rāvaṇasyeha praviṣṭo mānuṣīṃ tanum ,
tadidaṃ naḥ kṛtaṃ kāryaṃ tvayā dharmabhṛtāṃ vara.
26. vadhārtham rāvaṇasya iha praviṣṭaḥ mānuṣīm tanum
tat idam naḥ kṛtam kāryam tvayā dharmabhṛtām vara
26. iha rāvaṇasya vadhārtham mānuṣīm tanum praviṣṭaḥ
tat idam naḥ kāryam tvayā kṛtam dharmabhṛtām vara
26. For the purpose of killing Rāvaṇa, you entered a human form here on Earth. Therefore, this task of ours has been accomplished by you, O best among those who uphold the natural law (dharma).
निहतो रावणो राम प्रहृष्टो दिवमाक्रम ।
अमोघं बलवीर्यं ते अमोघस्ते पराक्रमः ॥२७॥
27. nihato rāvaṇo rāma prahṛṣṭo divamākrama ,
amoghaṃ balavīryaṃ te amoghaste parākramaḥ.
27. nihataḥ rāvaṇaḥ rāma prahṛṣṭaḥ divam ākrama
amogham balavīryam te amoghaḥ te parākramaḥ
27. rāma rāvaṇaḥ nihataḥ prahṛṣṭaḥ divam ākrama
te balavīryam amogham te parākramaḥ amoghaḥ
27. Rāvaṇa has been killed, O Rāma. Go forth to heaven, delighted! Your strength and valor are unfailing, and your prowess is indeed irresistible.
अमोघास्ते भविष्यन्ति भक्तिमन्तश्च ये नराः ।
ये त्वां देवं ध्रुवं भक्ताः पुराणं पुरुषोत्तमम् ॥२८॥
28. amoghāste bhaviṣyanti bhaktimantaśca ye narāḥ ,
ye tvāṃ devaṃ dhruvaṃ bhaktāḥ purāṇaṃ puruṣottamam.
28. amoghāḥ te bhaviṣyanti bhaktimantaḥ ca ye narāḥ ye
tvām devam dhruvam bhaktāḥ purāṇam puruṣottamam
28. ye narāḥ bhaktimantaḥ ca,
ye tvām devam dhruvam purāṇam puruṣottamam bhaktāḥ,
te amoghāḥ bhaviṣyanti
28. Those people who are endowed with devotion and are devoted to you, the divine, eternal, ancient, supreme person (puruṣa), will find their devotion unfailing.
ये नराः कीर्तयिष्यन्ति
नास्ति तेषां पराभवः ॥२९॥
29. ye narāḥ kīrtayiṣyanti
nāsti teṣāṃ parābhavaḥ.

29. ye narāḥ kīrtayiṣyanti,
teṣām parābhavaḥ na asti
29. Those people who glorify [you] will never suffer defeat.
