ततः पक्षिनिनादेन वृक्षभङ्गस्वनेन च ।

1. Then, by the clamor of birds and the sound of breaking trees, all the inhabitants of Lanka became bewildered and agitated with fear.
विद्रुताश्च भयत्रस्ता विनेदुर्मृगपक्षुणः ।
रक्षसां च निमित्तानि क्रूराणि प्रतिपेदिरे ॥२॥
2. vidrutāśca bhayatrastā vinedurmṛgapakṣuṇaḥ ,
rakṣasāṃ ca nimittāni krūrāṇi pratipedire.

2. The animals and birds, terrified, fled and shrieked. And dreadful omens appeared for the rākṣasas.
ततो गतायां निद्रायां राक्षस्यो विकृताननाः ।
तद्वनं ददृशुर्भग्नं तं च वीरं महाकपिम् ॥३॥
3. tato gatāyāṃ nidrāyāṃ rākṣasyo vikṛtānanāḥ ,
tadvanaṃ dadṛśurbhagnaṃ taṃ ca vīraṃ mahākapim.
3. tataḥ gatāyām nidrāyām rākṣasyaḥ vikṛtānanāḥ
tat vanam dadṛśuḥ bhagnam tam ca vīram mahākapim

3. Then, when their sleep had ended, the hideous-faced female demons (rākṣasīs) saw that devastated forest and that mighty hero, the great monkey (Hanumān).
स ता दृष्ट्व महाबाहुर्महासत्त्वो महाबलः ।
चकार सुमहद् रूपं राक्षसीनां भयावहम् ॥४॥
4. sa tā dṛṣṭva mahābāhurmahāsattvo mahābalaḥ ,
cakāra sumahad rūpaṃ rākṣasīnāṃ bhayāvaham.
4. saḥ tāḥ dṛṣṭvā mahābāhuḥ mahāsattvaḥ mahābalaḥ

4. Seeing them, that mighty-armed (mahābāhu), greatly courageous (mahāsattva), and immensely powerful (mahābala) one (Hanumān) assumed an exceedingly vast form, which was terrifying to the female demons (rākṣasīs).
ततस्तं गिरिसंकाशमतिकायं महाबलम् ।
राक्षस्यो वानरं दृष्ट्वा पप्रच्छुर्जनकात्मजाम् ॥५॥
5. tatastaṃ girisaṃkāśamatikāyaṃ mahābalam ,
rākṣasyo vānaraṃ dṛṣṭvā papracchurjanakātmajām.
5. tataḥ tam girisaṃkāśam atikāyam mahābalam
rākṣasyaḥ vānaram dṛṣṭvā papracchuḥ janakātmajām

5. Then, seeing that mountain-like, gigantic, and immensely powerful monkey (Hanumān), the female demons (rākṣasīs) questioned Janaka's daughter (Sītā).
को ऽयं कस्य कुतो वायं किंनिमित्तमिहागतः ।
कथं त्वया सहानेन संवादः कृत इत्युत ॥६॥
6. ko'yaṃ kasya kuto vāyaṃ kiṃnimittamihāgataḥ ,
kathaṃ tvayā sahānena saṃvādaḥ kṛta ityuta.
6. kaḥ ayam kasya kutaḥ vā ayam kim nimittam iha āgataḥ
katham tvayā saha anena saṃvādaḥ kṛtaḥ iti uta
6. ayam kaḥ ayam kasya vā ayam kutaḥ kim nimittam iha
āgataḥ uta anena tvayā saha katham saṃvādaḥ kṛtaḥ
6. Who is this? To whom does he belong, or from where has he come? For what purpose has he arrived here? And how has a conversation occurred between him and you?
आचक्ष्व नो विशालाक्षि मा भूत्ते सुभगे भयम् ।
संवादमसितापाङ्गे त्वया किं कृतवानयम् ॥७॥
7. ācakṣva no viśālākṣi mā bhūtte subhage bhayam ,
saṃvādamasitāpāṅge tvayā kiṃ kṛtavānayam.
7. ācakṣva naḥ viśālākṣi mā bhūt te subhage bhayam
saṃvādam asitāpāṅge tvayā kim kṛtavān ayam
7. viśālākṣi subhage te bhayam mā bhūt naḥ ācakṣva
asitāpāṅge ayam tvayā kim saṃvādam kṛtavān
7. O wide-eyed one, tell us; O fortunate one, do not be afraid. O lady with dark-cornered eyes, what conversation did this one have with you?
अथाब्रवीत्तदा साध्वी सीता सर्वाङ्गशोभना ।
रक्षसां कामरूपाणां विज्ञाने मम का गतिः ॥८॥
8. athābravīttadā sādhvī sītā sarvāṅgaśobhanā ,
rakṣasāṃ kāmarūpāṇāṃ vijñāne mama kā gatiḥ.
8. atha abravīt tadā sādhvī sītā sarvāṅgaśobhanā
rakṣasām kāmarūpāṇām vijñāne mama kā gatiḥ
8. atha tadā sarvāṅgaśobhanā sādhvī sītā abravīt

8. Then the virtuous Sita, beautiful in every limb, said: 'What understanding (gati) do I have regarding the knowledge of these shape-shifting rākṣasas?'
यूयमेवास्य जानीत यो ऽयं यद्वा करिष्यति ।
अहिरेव अहेः पादान् विजानाति न संशयः ॥९॥
9. yūyamevāsya jānīta yo'yaṃ yadvā kariṣyati ,
ahireva aheḥ pādān vijānāti na saṃśayaḥ.
9. yūyam eva asya jānīta yaḥ ayam yat vā kariṣyati
ahiḥ eva aheḥ pādān vijānāti na saṃśayaḥ
9. yūyam eva asya yaḥ ayam yat vā kariṣyati jānīta
ahiḥ eva aheḥ pādān vijānāti na saṃśayaḥ
9. You yourselves know who this one is and what he will do. Indeed, a snake knows the footprints of another snake; there is no doubt about that.
अहमप्यस्य भीतास्मि नैनं जानामि को ऽन्वयम् ।
वेद्मि राक्षसमेवैनं कामरूपिणमागतम् ॥१०॥
10. ahamapyasya bhītāsmi nainaṃ jānāmi ko'nvayam ,
vedmi rākṣasamevainaṃ kāmarūpiṇamāgatam.
10. aham api asya bhītā asmi na enam jānāmi kaḥ
anvayam vedmi rākṣasam eva enam kāmarūpiṇam āgatam
10. aham api asya bhītā asmi enam kaḥ anvayam na
jānāmi enam kāmarūpiṇam āgatam rākṣasam eva vedmi
10. I am also afraid of him. I do not know his lineage. I perceive him as a demon (rākṣasa) who has come assuming any form he wishes.
वैदेह्या वचनं श्रुत्वा राक्षस्यो विद्रुता द्रुतम् ।
स्थिताः काश्चिद्गताः काश्चिद् रावणाय निवेदितुम् ॥११॥
11. vaidehyā vacanaṃ śrutvā rākṣasyo vidrutā drutam ,
sthitāḥ kāścidgatāḥ kāścid rāvaṇāya niveditum.
11. vaidehyā vacanam śrutvā rākṣasyaḥ vidrutāḥ drutam
sthitāḥ kāścit gatāḥ kāścit rāvaṇāya niveditum
11. vaidehyā vacanam śrutvā rākṣasyaḥ drutam vidrutāḥ

11. Having heard the words of Vaidehī, the demonesses (rākṣasīs) quickly scattered. Some remained, while others went to inform Rāvaṇa.
रावणस्य समीपे तु राक्षस्यो विकृताननाः ।
विरूपं वानरं भीममाख्यातुमुपचक्रमुः ॥१२॥
12. rāvaṇasya samīpe tu rākṣasyo vikṛtānanāḥ ,
virūpaṃ vānaraṃ bhīmamākhyātumupacakramuḥ.
12. rāvaṇasya samīpe tu rākṣasyaḥ vikṛtānanāḥ
virūpam vānaram bhīmam ākhyātum upacakramuḥ
12. tu rāvaṇasya samīpe vikṛtānanāḥ rākṣasyaḥ

12. But near Rāvaṇa, the demonesses (rākṣasīs) with distorted faces began to describe the deformed, terrifying monkey.
अशोकवनिका मध्ये राजन्भीमवपुः कपिः ।
सीतया कृतसंवादस्तिष्ठत्यमितविक्रमः ॥१३॥
13. aśokavanikā madhye rājanbhīmavapuḥ kapiḥ ,
sītayā kṛtasaṃvādastiṣṭhatyamitavikramaḥ.
13. aśokavanikā madhye rājan bhīmavapuḥ kapiḥ
sītayā kṛtasaṃvādaḥ tiṣṭhati amitavikramaḥ
13. rājan aśokavanikā madhye sītayā kṛtasaṃvādaḥ
bhīmavapuḥ amitavikramaḥ kapiḥ tiṣṭhati
13. O King, in the middle of the Aśoka grove, a monkey with a terrifying body and immeasurable valor stands, having conversed with Sītā.
न च तं जानकी सीता हरिं हरिणलोचणा ।
अस्माभिर्बहुधा पृष्टा निवेदयितुमिच्छति ॥१४॥
14. na ca taṃ jānakī sītā hariṃ hariṇalocaṇā ,
asmābhirbahudhā pṛṣṭā nivedayitumicchati.
14. na ca tam jānakī sītā harim hariṇalocaṇā
asmābhiḥ bahudhā pṛṣṭā nivedayitum icchati
14. jānakī sītā hariṇalocaṇā asmābhiḥ bahudhā
pṛṣṭā tam harim nivedayitum na ca icchati
14. Janaki Sita, the deer-eyed one, though repeatedly questioned by us in many ways, does not wish to reveal anything about that elusive deer (Maricha).
वासवस्य भवेद्दूतो दूतो वैश्रवणस्य वा ।
प्रेषितो वापि रामेण सीतान्वेषणकाङ्क्षया ॥१५॥
15. vāsavasya bhaveddūto dūto vaiśravaṇasya vā ,
preṣito vāpi rāmeṇa sītānveṣaṇakāṅkṣayā.
15. vāsvasya bhavet dūtaḥ dūtaḥ vaiśravaṇasya vā
preṣitaḥ vā api rāmeṇa sītānveṣaṇakāṅkṣayā
15. vāsvasya dūtaḥ bhavet vā vaiśravaṇasya dūtaḥ
vā api rāmeṇa sītānveṣaṇakāṅkṣayā preṣitaḥ
15. He might be a messenger of Vasava (Indra), or an envoy of Vaiśravaṇa (Kubera). Or perhaps, he was sent by Rama with the desire of searching for Sita.
तेन त्वद्भूतरूपेण यत्तत्तव मनोहरम् ।
नानामृगगणाकीर्णं प्रमृष्टं प्रमदावनम् ॥१६॥
16. tena tvadbhūtarūpeṇa yattattava manoharam ,
nānāmṛgagaṇākīrṇaṃ pramṛṣṭaṃ pramadāvanam.
16. tena tvadbhūtarūpeṇa yat tat tava manoharam
nānāmṛgagaṇākīrṇam pramṛṣṭam pramadāvanam
16. tena tvadbhūtarūpeṇa tava yat tat manoharam
nānāmṛgagaṇākīrṇam pramadāvanam pramṛṣṭam
16. By that one, in his wondrous form, your charming pleasure grove, which was teeming with various herds of deer, was completely ravaged.
न तत्र कश्चिदुद्देशो यस्तेन न विनाशितः ।
यत्र सा जानकी सीता स तेन न विनाशितः ॥१७॥
17. na tatra kaściduddeśo yastena na vināśitaḥ ,
yatra sā jānakī sītā sa tena na vināśitaḥ.
17. na tatra kaścit uddeśaḥ yaḥ tena na vināśitaḥ
yatra sā jānakī sītā saḥ tena na vināśitaḥ
17. tena yaḥ kaścit uddeśaḥ na vināśitaḥ tatra na.

17. There, no region or place was left undestroyed by him. But the place where Janaki Sita resided, that was not destroyed by him.
जानकीरक्षणार्थं वा श्रमाद्वा नोपलभ्यते ।
अथ वा कः श्रमस्तस्य सैव तेनाभिरक्षिता ॥१८॥
18. jānakīrakṣaṇārthaṃ vā śramādvā nopalabhyate ,
atha vā kaḥ śramastasya saiva tenābhirakṣitā.
18. jānakīrakṣaṇārtham vā śramāt vā na upalabhyate
atha vā kaḥ śramaḥ tasya sā eva tena abhirakṣitā
18. jānakīrakṣaṇārtham vā śramāt vā na upalabhyate
atha vā tasya kaḥ śramaḥ sā eva tena abhirakṣitā
18. Is she not found either because of the extensive guarding of Janaki, or due to my fatigue? But what fatigue could there be for me? Indeed, she herself is being well-guarded by him (Rāvaṇa).
चारुपल्लवपत्राढ्यं यं सीता स्वयमास्थिता ।
प्रवृद्धः शिंशपावृक्षः स च तेनाभिरक्षितः ॥१९॥
19. cārupallavapatrāḍhyaṃ yaṃ sītā svayamāsthitā ,
pravṛddhaḥ śiṃśapāvṛkṣaḥ sa ca tenābhirakṣitaḥ.
19. cārupallavapatrāḍhyam yam sītā svayam āsthitā
pravṛddhaḥ śiṃśapāvṛkṣaḥ saḥ ca tena abhirakṣitaḥ
19. sītā svayam āsthitā yam cārupallavapatrāḍhyam
pravṛddhaḥ śiṃśapāvṛkṣaḥ saḥ ca tena abhirakṣitaḥ
19. That large Śiṃśapā tree, adorned with beautiful leaves and shoots, where Sita herself resided, was also protected by him (Hanuman).
तस्योग्ररूपस्योग्रं त्वं दण्डमाज्ञातुमर्हसि ।
सीता संभाषिता येन तद्वनं च विनाशितम् ॥२०॥
20. tasyograrūpasyograṃ tvaṃ daṇḍamājñātumarhasi ,
sītā saṃbhāṣitā yena tadvanaṃ ca vināśitam.
20. tasya ugrarūpasya ugram tvam daṇḍam ājñātum arhasi
sītā saṃbhāṣitā yena tat vanam ca vināśitam
20. tvam tasya ugrarūpasya ugram daṇḍam ājñātum arhasi
yena sītā saṃbhāṣitā ca tat vanam vināśitam
20. You (Rama) ought to decree a severe punishment for that one of dreadful form, by whom Sita was addressed and by whom that grove was (subsequently) destroyed.
मनःपरिगृहीतां तां तव रक्षोगणेश्वर ।
कः सीतामभिभाषेत यो न स्यात्त्यक्तजीवितः ॥२१॥
21. manaḥparigṛhītāṃ tāṃ tava rakṣogaṇeśvara ,
kaḥ sītāmabhibhāṣeta yo na syāttyaktajīvitaḥ.
21. manaḥparigṛhītām tām tava rakṣogaṇeśvara kaḥ
sītām abhibhāṣeta yaḥ na syāt tyaktajīvitaḥ
21. rakṣogaṇeśvara tava manaḥparigṛhītām tām sītām
kaḥ abhibhāṣeta yaḥ tyaktajīvitaḥ na syāt
21. O lord of the Rākṣasa hosts, who would dare address that Sita, whom you have seized in your mind, unless he is one who has renounced his life?
राक्षसीनां वचः श्रुत्वा रावणो राक्षसेश्वरः ।
हुतागिरिव जज्वाल कोपसंवर्तितेक्षणः ॥२२॥
22. rākṣasīnāṃ vacaḥ śrutvā rāvaṇo rākṣaseśvaraḥ ,
hutāgiriva jajvāla kopasaṃvartitekṣaṇaḥ.
22. rākṣasīnām vacaḥ śrutvā rāvaṇaḥ rākṣaseśvaraḥ
hutāgniḥ iva jajvāla kopasaṃvartitekṣaṇaḥ
22. rākṣaseśvaraḥ rāvaṇaḥ rākṣasīnām vacaḥ śrutvā
kopasaṃvartitekṣaṇaḥ hutāgniḥ iva jajvāla
22. Having heard the words of the demonesses, Rāvaṇa, the lord of the Rākṣasas, blazed up like a kindled fire, his eyes rolling with anger.
आत्मनः सदृशाञ् शूरान् किंकरान्नाम राक्षसान् ।
व्यादिदेश महातेजा निग्रहार्थं हनूमतः ॥२३॥
23. ātmanaḥ sadṛśāñ śūrān kiṃkarānnāma rākṣasān ,
vyādideśa mahātejā nigrahārthaṃ hanūmataḥ.
23. ātmanaḥ sadṛśān śūrān kiṅkarān nāma rākṣasān
vyādideśa mahātejāḥ nigrahārtham hanūmataḥ
23. mahātejāḥ ātmanaḥ sadṛśān nāma kiṅkarān śūrān
rākṣasān hanūmataḥ nigrahārtham vyādideśa
23. The greatly powerful (Rāvaṇa) commanded brave Rākṣasas named Kiṅkaras, who were similar to his own self (ātman), for the capture of Hanūmān.
तेषामशीतिसाहस्रं किंकराणां तरस्विनाम् ।
निर्ययुर्भवनात्तस्मात् कूटमुद्गरपाणयः ॥२४॥
24. teṣāmaśītisāhasraṃ kiṃkarāṇāṃ tarasvinām ,
niryayurbhavanāttasmāt kūṭamudgarapāṇayaḥ.
24. teṣām aśītisāhasram kiṅkarāṇām tarasvinām
niryayuḥ bhavanāt tasmāt kūṭamudgarapāṇayaḥ
24. teṣām tarasvinām kiṅkarāṇām aśītisāhasram
kūṭamudgarapāṇayaḥ tasmāt bhavanāt niryayuḥ
24. Eighty thousand of those powerful Kiṅkaras, carrying maces and hammers in their hands, emerged from that palace.
महोदरा महादंष्ट्रा घोररूपा महाबलाः ।
युद्धाभिमनसः सर्वे हनूमद्ग्रहणोन्मुखाः ॥२५॥
25. mahodarā mahādaṃṣṭrā ghorarūpā mahābalāḥ ,
yuddhābhimanasaḥ sarve hanūmadgrahaṇonmukhāḥ.
25. mahodarāḥ mahādaṃṣṭrāḥ ghorarūpāḥ mahābalāḥ
yuddhābhimanasaḥ sarve hanūmadgrahaṇonmukhāḥ
25. sarve mahodarāḥ mahādaṃṣṭrāḥ ghorarūpāḥ

25. All of them had huge bellies, great fangs, terrifying forms, and immense strength; their minds were set on battle, eager to capture Hanūmān.
ते कपिं तं समासाद्य तोरणस्थमवस्थितम् ।
अभिपेतुर्महावेगाः पतङ्गा इव पावकम् ॥२६॥
26. te kapiṃ taṃ samāsādya toraṇasthamavasthitam ,
abhipeturmahāvegāḥ pataṅgā iva pāvakam.
26. te kapim tam samāsādya toraṇastham avasthitam
abhipetuḥ mahāvegāḥ pataṅgāḥ iva pāvakam
26. te toraṇastham avasthitam tam kapim samāsādya
mahāvegāḥ abhipetuḥ pataṅgāḥ pāvakam iva
26. Having approached that monkey, who was situated on the archway, they, with great speed, rushed towards him just like moths to a fire.
ते गदाभिर्विचित्राभिः परिघैः काञ्चनाङ्गदैः ।
आजघ्नुर्वानरश्रेष्ठं शरैरादित्यसंनिभैः ॥२७॥
27. te gadābhirvicitrābhiḥ parighaiḥ kāñcanāṅgadaiḥ ,
ājaghnurvānaraśreṣṭhaṃ śarairādityasaṃnibhaiḥ.
27. te gadābhiḥ vicitrābhiḥ parighaiḥ kāñcanāṅgadaiḥ
ājaghnus vānaraśreṣṭham śaraiḥ ādityasaṃnibhaiḥ
27. te vicitrābhiḥ gadābhiḥ kāñcanāṅgadaiḥ parighaiḥ
ādityasaṃnibhaiḥ śaraiḥ vānaraśreṣṭham ājaghnus
27. They assailed the best of monkeys with various maces, with iron clubs adorned with gold, and with arrows as brilliant as the sun.
हनूमानपि तेजस्वी श्रीमान्पर्वतसंनिभः ।
क्षितावाविध्य लाङ्गूलं ननाद च महास्वनम् ॥२८॥
28. hanūmānapi tejasvī śrīmānparvatasaṃnibhaḥ ,
kṣitāvāvidhya lāṅgūlaṃ nanāda ca mahāsvanam.
28. hanūmān api tejasvī śrīmān parvatasaṃnibhaḥ
kṣitau āvidhya lāṅgūlam nanāda ca mahāsvanam
28. hanūmān api tejasvī śrīmān parvatasaṃnibhaḥ
kṣitau lāṅgūlam āvidhya ca mahāsvanam nanāda
28. Hanūman, mighty, glorious, and resembling a mountain, also whirled his tail on the ground and let out a tremendous roar.
तस्य संनादशब्देन ते ऽभवन्भयशङ्किताः ।
ददृशुश्च हनूमन्तं संध्यामेघमिवोन्नतम् ॥२९॥
29. tasya saṃnādaśabdena te'bhavanbhayaśaṅkitāḥ ,
dadṛśuśca hanūmantaṃ saṃdhyāmeghamivonnatam.
29. tasya saṃnādaśabdena te abhavan bhayaśaṅkitāḥ
dadṛśuḥ ca hanūmantam sandhyāmegham iva unnatam
29. tasya saṃnādaśabdena te bhayaśaṅkitāḥ abhavan
ca hanūmantam sandhyāmegham unnatam iva dadṛśuḥ
29. At the sound of his roar, they became afraid, and they saw Hanūman, towering like a twilight cloud.
स्वामिसंदेशनिःशङ्कास्ततस्ते राक्षसाः कपिम् ।
चित्रैः प्रहरणैर्भीमैरभिपेतुस्ततस्ततः ॥३०॥
30. svāmisaṃdeśaniḥśaṅkāstataste rākṣasāḥ kapim ,
citraiḥ praharaṇairbhīmairabhipetustatastataḥ.
30. svāmisandeśaniḥśaṅkāḥ tataḥ te rākṣasāḥ kapim
citraiḥ praharanaiḥ bhīmaiḥ abhipetuḥ tatastataḥ
30. tataḥ te rākṣasāḥ svāmisandeśaniḥśaṅkāḥ citraiḥ
bhīmaiḥ praharanaiḥ tatastataḥ kapim abhipetuḥ
30. Then, those demons, fearless due to their master's command, attacked the monkey from all directions with various terrifying weapons.
स तैः परिवृतः शूरैः सर्वतः स महाबलः ।
आससादायसं भीमं परिघं तोरणाश्रितम् ॥३१॥
31. sa taiḥ parivṛtaḥ śūraiḥ sarvataḥ sa mahābalaḥ ,
āsasādāyasaṃ bhīmaṃ parighaṃ toraṇāśritam.

31. Surrounded on all sides by those brave ones, that greatly powerful Hanuman seized a terrifying iron mace that was leaning against the archway.
स तं परिघमादाय
जघान रजनीचरान् ॥३२॥
32. sa taṃ parighamādāya
jaghāna rajanīcarān.

32. Having taken that mace, he struck down the night-roaming demons.
स पन्नगमिवादाय स्फुरन्तं विनतासुतः ।
विचचाराम्बरे वीरः परिगृह्य च मारुतिः ॥३३॥
33. sa pannagamivādāya sphurantaṃ vinatāsutaḥ ,
vicacārāmbare vīraḥ parigṛhya ca mārutiḥ.

vicacāra ambare vīraḥ parigṛhya ca mārutiḥ
33. saḥ vīraḥ mārutiḥ sphurantam pannagam iva

33. And that heroic son of Marut (Māruti), holding (the mace) as Vinatā's son (Garuda) would grasp a thrashing snake, moved about in the sky.
स हत्वा राक्षसान् वीरः किंकरान्मारुतात्मजः ।
युद्धाकाङ्क्षी पुनर्वीरस्तोरणं समुपस्थितः ॥३४॥
34. sa hatvā rākṣasān vīraḥ kiṃkarānmārutātmajaḥ ,
yuddhākāṅkṣī punarvīrastoraṇaṃ samupasthitaḥ.

34. Having killed those demon servants, the heroic son of Vāyu (Mārutātmaja), desiring battle once more, that hero then approached the archway.
ततस्तस्माद्भयान्मुक्ताः कति चित्तत्र राक्षसाः ।
निहतान् किंकरान् सर्वान् रावणाय न्यवेदयन् ॥३५॥
35. tatastasmādbhayānmuktāḥ kati cittatra rākṣasāḥ ,
nihatān kiṃkarān sarvān rāvaṇāya nyavedayan.

35. Then, a few demons there, freed from that fear, reported all the slain servants to Rāvaṇa.
स राक्षसानां निहतं महाबलं निशम्य राजा परिवृत्तलोचनः ।
समादिदेशाप्रतिमं पराक्रमे प्रहस्तपुत्रं समरे सुदुर्जयम् ॥३६॥
36. sa rākṣasānāṃ nihataṃ mahābalaṃ niśamya rājā parivṛttalocanaḥ ,
samādideśāpratimaṃ parākrame prahastaputraṃ samare sudurjayam.

36. Having heard of the great force of demons being slain, that king (Rāvaṇa), with agitated eyes, commanded Prahasta's son, who was unequalled in valor and unconquerable in battle.
