After reflecting, Rama embraced his fearless friend, Pratardana, the king of Kashi, and then spoke these words.

2.
O King, you have demonstrated affection and great friendship. An effort has also been made by Bharata in your company.

3.
Therefore, you should now go to the city of Kashi, Varanasi, which is beautiful, protected by you, and adorned with excellent ramparts and fine gates.

4.
Having spoken these words, Kakutstha (Rama), the righteous (dharma) individual, rose from his excellent seat and closely embraced the one who was standing before him.

5.
Having bid farewell to that friend, Raghava (Rama), smiling, spoke sweet words to the kings who had arrived.

dharmaḥ ca niyataḥ nityam satyam ca bhavatām sadā
dharmaḥ ca niyataḥ nityam satyam ca bhavatām sadā
6.
Your unwavering affection is well-protected by your brilliance. And your intrinsic nature (dharma) is always constant, and your truth (satya) always prevails.
7. yuṣmākaṃ ca prabhāvena tejasā ca mahātmanām ,

hataḥ durātmā durbuddhiḥ rāvaṇaḥ rākṣasādhipaḥ
hataḥ durātmā durbuddhiḥ rāvaṇaḥ rākṣasādhipaḥ
7.
And by your influence, and by the brilliance of you great souls, the evil-minded, foolish Rāvaṇa, the king of the demons, was slain.

rāvaṇaḥ sagaṇaḥ yuddhe saputraḥ sahabāndhavaḥ
rāvaṇaḥ sagaṇaḥ yuddhe saputraḥ sahabāndhavaḥ
8.
I was merely the instrument in that matter; it was by your collective brilliance that Rāvaṇa, with his followers, sons, and relatives, was slain in battle.

bhavantaḥ ca samānītāḥ bharatena mahātmanā
śrutvā janakarājasya kānane tanayām hṛtām
śrutvā janakarājasya kānane tanayām hṛtām
9.
And you were brought together by the great-souled Bharata, after he heard that King Janaka's daughter was abducted in the forest.

kālo hyatītaḥ sumahān gamane rocatāṃ matiḥ.
10.

hi sumahān kālaḥ atītaḥ gamane matiḥ rocatām
10.
Indeed, a very long time has passed for all these prepared and noble kings. May their minds now be inclined towards departure.
11. pratyūcustaṃ ca rājāno harṣeṇa mahatānvitāḥ ,

diṣṭyā tvaṃ vijayī rāma rājyaṃ cāpi pratiṣṭhitam.
11.

diṣṭyā rāma tvam vijayī ca rājyam api pratiṣṭhitam
diṣṭyā rāma tvam vijayī ca rājyam api pratiṣṭhitam
11.
And the kings, filled with great joy, replied to him, 'Fortunately, O Rāma, you are victorious, and the kingdom is also firmly established.'
12. diṣṭyā pratyāhṛtā sītā diṣṭyā śatruḥ parājitaḥ ,

eṣaḥ naḥ paramaḥ kāmaḥ eṣā naḥ uttamā kīrtiḥ
eṣaḥ naḥ paramaḥ kāmaḥ eṣā naḥ uttamā kīrtiḥ
12.
Fortunately, Sītā has been recovered; fortunately, the enemy has been defeated. This is our greatest wish, and this is our supreme glory.

upapannaṃ ca kākutstha yattvamasmānpraśaṃsasi.
13.

kākutstha yat tvam asmān praśaṃsasi upapannam
kākutstha yat tvam asmān praśaṃsasi upapannam
13.
It is because we see you, O Rāma, victorious and with your enemies slain (that this is our supreme desire and glory). And it is fitting, O Kākutstha, that you praise us.

14.

14.

āpṛcchāmaḥ (vayam) gamiṣyāmaḥ bhavān naḥ sadā hṛdisthaḥ (asti)
14.
Indeed, only those truly worthy of praise know how to utter such commendable words. We bid farewell and shall depart; you will always remain in our hearts.
