तपोबलहतान् कृत्वा वासिष्ठान् समहोदयान् ।
ऋषिमध्ये महातेजा विश्वामित्रो ऽभ्यभाषत ॥१॥

1. After having, by the power of his asceticism (tapas), rendered the Vāsiṣṭhas, along with all their prosperity, struck down, the greatly splendid Viśvāmitra addressed the assembly among the sages.
अयमिक्ष्वाकुदायादस्त्रिशङ्कुरिति विश्रुतः ।
धर्मिष्ठश्च वदान्यश्च मां चैव शरणं गतः ।
स्वेनानेन शरीरेण देवलोकजिगीषया ॥२॥
2. ayamikṣvākudāyādastriśaṅkuriti viśrutaḥ ,
dharmiṣṭhaśca vadānyaśca māṃ caiva śaraṇaṃ gataḥ ,
svenānena śarīreṇa devalokajigīṣayā.

viśrutaḥ dharmiṣṭhaḥ ca vadānyaḥ
ca mām ca eva śaraṇam gataḥ svena

svena anena śarīreṇa devalokajigīṣayā,
mām ca eva śaraṇam gataḥ.
2. This famous Triśaṅku, a descendant of Ikṣvāku, is most righteous (dharma) and generous. He has indeed sought refuge in me, desiring to conquer the world of gods with this very own body of his.
यथायं स्वशरीरेण देवलोकं गमिष्यति ।
तथा प्रवर्त्यतां यज्ञो भवद्भिश्च मया सह ॥३॥
3. yathāyaṃ svaśarīreṇa devalokaṃ gamiṣyati ,
tathā pravartyatāṃ yajño bhavadbhiśca mayā saha.
3. yathā ayam svaśarīreṇa devalokam gamiṣyati tathā
pravartyatām yajñaḥ bhavadbhiḥ ca mayā saha
3. yathā ayam svaśarīreṇa devalokam gamiṣyati,

3. So that this king may ascend to the world of gods with his own body, accordingly, let a Vedic ritual (yajña) be performed by you all in conjunction with me.
विश्वामित्रवचः श्रुत्वा सर्व एव महर्षयः ।
ऊचुः समेत्य सहिता धर्मज्ञा धर्मसंहितम् ॥४॥
4. viśvāmitravacaḥ śrutvā sarva eva maharṣayaḥ ,
ūcuḥ sametya sahitā dharmajñā dharmasaṃhitam.

4. Having heard Viśvāmitra's words, all the great sages, being knowers of natural law (dharma), assembled together and spoke words that were consonant with natural law (dharma).
अयं कुशिकदायादो मुनिः परमकोपनः ।
यदाह वचनं सम्यगेतत् कार्यं न संशयः ॥५॥
5. ayaṃ kuśikadāyādo muniḥ paramakopanaḥ ,
yadāha vacanaṃ samyagetat kāryaṃ na saṃśayaḥ.
5. ayam kuśikadāyādaḥ muniḥ paramakopanaḥ yat
āha vacanam samyak etat kāryam na saṃśayaḥ

5. This sage, a descendant of Kuśika, is extremely prone to anger. What he has stated must be carried out correctly; there is no doubt about it.
अग्निकल्पो हि भगवाञ् शापं दास्यति रोषितः ।
तस्मात् प्रवर्त्यतां यज्ञः सशरीरो यथा दिवम् ।
गच्छेदिक्ष्वाकुदायादो विश्वामित्रस्य तेजसा ॥६॥
6. agnikalpo hi bhagavāñ śāpaṃ dāsyati roṣitaḥ ,
tasmāt pravartyatāṃ yajñaḥ saśarīro yathā divam ,
gacchedikṣvākudāyādo viśvāmitrasya tejasā.
6. agnikalpaḥ hi bhagavān śāpam dāsyati
roṣitaḥ tasmāt pravartyatām yajñaḥ
saśarīraḥ yathā divam gacchet
ikṣvāku-dāyādaḥ viśvāmitrasya tejasā
6. hi roṣitaḥ agnikalpaḥ bhagavān śāpam
dāsyati tasmāt yajñaḥ pravartyatām
yathā ikṣvāku-dāyādaḥ saśarīraḥ
viśvāmitrasya tejasā divam gacchet
6. Indeed, the revered one (Bhagavān), who is like fire, will give a curse if enraged. Therefore, let the Vedic ritual (yajña) be performed, so that the descendant of Ikṣvāku may ascend to heaven with his body, by the power of Viśvāmitra.
ततः प्रवर्त्यतां यज्ञः
सर्वे समधितिष्ठते ॥७॥

7. Then let the Vedic ritual (yajña) be performed, and let all (the sages) oversee it.
एवमुक्त्वा महर्षयः संजह्रुस्ताः क्रियास्तदा ।
याजकाश्च महातेजा विश्वामित्रो ऽभवत् क्रतौ ॥८॥
8. evamuktvā maharṣayaḥ saṃjahrustāḥ kriyāstadā ,
yājakāśca mahātejā viśvāmitro'bhavat kratau.
8. evam uktvā maharṣayaḥ saṃjahruḥ tāḥ kriyāḥ tadā
yājakāḥ ca mahātejāḥ viśvāmitraḥ abhavat kratau

8. Having spoken thus, the great sages (maharṣi) then performed those rites. And the greatly powerful Viśvāmitra became the officiating priest (yājaka) for the ritual (kratu).
ऋत्विजश्चानुपूर्व्येण मन्त्रवन्मन्त्रकोविदाः ।
चक्रुः सर्वाणि कर्माणि यथाकल्पं यथाविधि ॥९॥
9. ṛtvijaścānupūrvyeṇa mantravanmantrakovidāḥ ,
cakruḥ sarvāṇi karmāṇi yathākalpaṃ yathāvidhi.
9. ṛtvijaḥ ca anupūrvyena mantravat mantra-kovidāḥ
cakruḥ sarvāṇi karmāṇi yathākalpam yathāvidhi
9. ca mantra-kovidāḥ mantravat ṛtvijaḥ anupūrvyena
sarvāṇi karmāṇi yathākalpam yathāvidhi cakruḥ
9. And the priests (ṛtvij), skilled in mantras and possessing mantras, performed all the rites in due order, strictly according to the prescribed form and procedure.
ततः कालेन महता विश्वामित्रो महातपाः ।
चकारावाहनं तत्र भागार्थं सर्वदेवताः ॥१०॥
10. tataḥ kālena mahatā viśvāmitro mahātapāḥ ,
cakārāvāhanaṃ tatra bhāgārthaṃ sarvadevatāḥ.
10. tataḥ kālena mahatā viśvāmitraḥ mahātapaḥ
cakāra āvāhanam tatra bhāgārtham sarvadevatāḥ
10. tataḥ mahatā kālena viśvāmitraḥ mahātapaḥ

10. Then, after a long time, Viśvāmitra, the great ascetic (mahātapas), summoned all the deities there to receive their share (of the offering).
नाह्यागमंस्तदाहूता भागार्थं सर्वदेवताः ।
ततः क्रोधसमाविष्टो विश्वमित्रो महामुनिः ॥११॥
11. nāhyāgamaṃstadāhūtā bhāgārthaṃ sarvadevatāḥ ,
tataḥ krodhasamāviṣṭo viśvamitro mahāmuniḥ.
11. na hi āgaman tadā āhūtāḥ bhāgārtham sarvadevatāḥ
tataḥ krodhasamāviṣṭaḥ viśvāmitraḥ mahāmuniḥ
11. hi tadā āhūtāḥ sarvadevatāḥ bhāgārtham na āgaman
tataḥ krodhasamāviṣṭaḥ viśvāmitraḥ mahāmuniḥ
11. Indeed, all the deities, though summoned, did not come for their share. Then, Viśvāmitra, the great sage, overcome with anger.
स्रुवमुद्यम्य सक्रोधस्त्रिशङ्कुमिदमब्रवीत् ।
पश्य मे तपसो वीर्यं स्वार्जितस्य नरेश्वर ॥१२॥
12. sruvamudyamya sakrodhastriśaṅkumidamabravīt ,
paśya me tapaso vīryaṃ svārjitasya nareśvara.
12. sruvam udyamya sakrodhaḥ triśaṅkum idam abravīt
paśya me tapasaḥ vīryam svārjitasya nareśvara
12. sakrodhaḥ sruvam udyamya idam triśaṅkum abravīt
nareśvara me svārjitasya tapasaḥ vīryam paśya
12. Full of anger, raising the sacrificial ladle, he said this to Triśaṅku: "O king of men, behold the power (vīrya) of my self-acquired asceticism (tapas)!"
एष त्वां स्वशरीरेण नयामि स्वर्गमोजसा ।
दुष्प्रापं स्वशरीरेण दिवं गच्छ नराधिप ॥१३॥
13. eṣa tvāṃ svaśarīreṇa nayāmi svargamojasā ,
duṣprāpaṃ svaśarīreṇa divaṃ gaccha narādhipa.
13. eṣaḥ tvām svaśarīreṇa nayāmi svargam ojasā
duṣprāpam svaśarīreṇa divam gaccha narādhipa
13. eṣaḥ ojasā tvām svaśarīreṇa duṣprāpam svargam
nayāmi narādhipa svaśarīreṇa divam gaccha
13. “With my power (ojas), I will take you to heaven (svarga), which is difficult to reach in one's own body. O king of men, go to heaven (div) with your own body!”
स्वार्जितं किं चिदप्यस्ति मया हि तपसः फलम् ।
राजंस्त्वं तेजसा तस्य सशरीरो दिवं व्रज ॥१४॥
14. svārjitaṃ kiṃ cidapyasti mayā hi tapasaḥ phalam ,
rājaṃstvaṃ tejasā tasya saśarīro divaṃ vraja.
14. sva-arjitam kim cit api asti mayā hi tapasaḥ phalam
rājan tvam tejasā tasya saśarīraḥ divam vraja
14. rājan mayā sva-arjitam tapasaḥ kim cit api phalam hi asti,
tasya tejasā tvam saśarīraḥ divam vraja
14. O king, whatever fruit of penance (tapas) has truly been earned by me, by its power, you shall go to heaven with your physical body.
उक्तवाक्ये मुनौ तस्मिन् सशरीरो नरेश्वरः ।
दिवं जगाम काकुत्स्थ मुनीनां पश्यतां तदा ॥१५॥
15. uktavākye munau tasmin saśarīro nareśvaraḥ ,
divaṃ jagāma kākutstha munīnāṃ paśyatāṃ tadā.
15. ukta-vākye munau tasmin saśarīraḥ nareśvaraḥ
divam jagāma kākutstha munīnām paśyatām tadā
15. kākutstha tasmin munau ukta-vākye (sati),
tadā nareśvaraḥ saśarīraḥ munīnām paśyatām divam jagāma
15. O descendant of Kakutstha, as that sage finished speaking, the king, with his physical body, ascended to heaven, while the other sages watched.
देवलोकगतं दृष्ट्वा त्रिशङ्कुं पाकशासनः ।
सह सर्वैः सुरगणैरिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥१६॥
16. devalokagataṃ dṛṣṭvā triśaṅkuṃ pākaśāsanaḥ ,
saha sarvaiḥ suragaṇairidaṃ vacanamabravīt.
16. devaloka-gatam dṛṣṭvā triśaṅkum pākaśāsanaḥ
saha sarvaiḥ sura-gaṇaiḥ idam vacanam abravīt
16. pākaśāsanaḥ sarvaiḥ sura-gaṇaiḥ saha devaloka-gatam
triśaṅkum dṛṣṭvā idam vacanam abravīt
16. Seeing Triśaṅku arrive in the celestial world, Indra (Pākaśāsana), along with all the hosts of gods, spoke these words.
त्रिशङ्को गच्छ भूयस्त्वं नासि स्वर्गकृतालयः ।
गुरुशापहतो मूढ पत भूमिमवाक्शिराः ॥१७॥
17. triśaṅko gaccha bhūyastvaṃ nāsi svargakṛtālayaḥ ,
guruśāpahato mūḍha pata bhūmimavākśirāḥ.
17. triśaṅko gaccha bhūyaḥ tvam na asi svarga-kṛta-ālayaḥ
guru-śāpa-hataḥ mūḍha pata bhūmim avāk-śirāḥ
17. triśaṅko tvam bhūyaḥ gaccha.
svarga-kṛta-ālayaḥ na asi.
mūḍha guru-śāpa-hataḥ avāk-śirāḥ bhūmim pata
17. O Triśaṅku, go back! You are not fit to have heaven as your abode. O foolish one, struck down by your guru's curse, fall headlong to the earth!
एवमुक्तो महेन्द्रेण त्रिशङ्कुरपतत् पुनः ।
विक्रोशमानस्त्राहीति विश्वामित्रं तपोधनम् ॥१८॥
18. evamukto mahendreṇa triśaṅkurapatat punaḥ ,
vikrośamānastrāhīti viśvāmitraṃ tapodhanam.
18. evam uktaḥ mahendreṇa triśaṅkuḥ apatat punaḥ
vikrośamānaḥ trāhi iti viśvāmitram tapodhanam
18. mahendreṇa evam uktaḥ triśaṅkuḥ punaḥ viśvāmitram
tapodhanam trāhi iti vikrośamānaḥ apatat
18. Thus addressed by Mahendra, Triśaṅku again fell, crying out "Save me!" to Viśvāmitra, who was rich in asceticism (tapas).
तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तस्य क्रोशमानस्य कौशिकः ।
रोषमाहारयत्तीव्रं तिष्ठ तिष्ठेति चाब्रवीत् ॥१९॥
19. tacchrutvā vacanaṃ tasya krośamānasya kauśikaḥ ,
roṣamāhārayattīvraṃ tiṣṭha tiṣṭheti cābravīt.
19. tat śrutvā vacanam tasya krośamānasya kauśikaḥ
roṣam āhārayat tīvram tiṣṭha tiṣṭha iti ca abravīt
19. kauśikaḥ tasya krośamānasya tat vacanam śrutvā
tīvram roṣam āhārayat ca tiṣṭha tiṣṭha iti abravīt
19. Having heard those words from him who was crying out, Kauśika manifested intense anger and said, "Stop! Stop!"
ऋषिमध्ये स तेजस्वी प्रजापतिरिवापरः ।
सृजन्दक्षिणमार्गस्थान् सप्तर्षीनपरान्पुनः ॥२०॥
20. ṛṣimadhye sa tejasvī prajāpatirivāparaḥ ,
sṛjandakṣiṇamārgasthān saptarṣīnaparānpunaḥ.
20. ṛṣimadhye saḥ tejasvī prajāpatiḥ iva aparaḥ
sṛjan dakṣiṇamārgasthān saptarṣīn aparān punaḥ
20. saḥ tejasvī aparaḥ prajāpatiḥ iva ṛṣimadhye
punaḥ aparān dakṣiṇamārgasthān saptarṣīn sṛjan
20. Amidst the sages, that glorious one, like another Prajāpati, again creating other seven sages who were situated in the southern celestial path,
नक्षत्रमालामपरामसृजत् क्रोधमूर्छितः ।
दक्षिणां दिशमास्थाय मुनिमध्ये महायशाः ॥२१॥
21. nakṣatramālāmaparāmasṛjat krodhamūrchitaḥ ,
dakṣiṇāṃ diśamāsthāya munimadhye mahāyaśāḥ.
21. nakṣatramālām aparām asṛjat krodhamūrcchitaḥ
dakṣiṇām diśam āsthāya munimadhye mahāyaśāḥ
21. mahāyaśāḥ krodhamūrcchitaḥ munimadhye dakṣiṇām
diśam āsthāya aparām nakṣatramālām asṛjat
21. Overcome by anger, that greatly glorious one, taking his stand in the southern direction amidst the sages, created another constellation.
सृष्ट्वा नक्षत्रवंशं च क्रोधेन कलुषीकृतः ।
अन्यमिन्द्रं करिष्यामि लोको वा स्यादनिन्द्रकः ।
दैवतान्यपि स क्रोधात् स्रष्टुं समुपचक्रमे ॥२२॥
22. sṛṣṭvā nakṣatravaṃśaṃ ca krodhena kaluṣīkṛtaḥ ,
anyamindraṃ kariṣyāmi loko vā syādanindrakaḥ ,
daivatānyapi sa krodhāt sraṣṭuṃ samupacakrame.
22. sṛṣṭvā nakṣatravaṃśam ca krodhena
kaluṣīkṛtaḥ anyam indram kariṣyāmi
lokaḥ vā syāt anindrakaḥ daivatāni
api saḥ krodhāt sraṣṭum samupacakrame
22. saḥ krodhena kaluṣīkṛtaḥ ca nakṣatravaṃśam
sṛṣṭvā anyam indram kariṣyāmi
vā lokaḥ anindrakaḥ syāt api
krodhāt daivatāni sraṣṭum samupacakrame
22. Having created a new constellation of stars, and being defiled (or consumed) by anger, he declared: 'I will create another Indra, or else the world will be without an Indra!' Out of anger, he even began to create new deities.
ततः परमसंभ्रान्ताः सर्षिसंघाः सुरर्षभाः ।
विश्वामित्रं महात्मानमूचुः सानुनयं वचः ॥२३॥
23. tataḥ paramasaṃbhrāntāḥ sarṣisaṃghāḥ surarṣabhāḥ ,
viśvāmitraṃ mahātmānamūcuḥ sānunayaṃ vacaḥ.
23. tataḥ paramasaṃbhrāntāḥ sarṣisaṃghāḥ surarṣabhāḥ
viśvāmitram mahātmānam ūcuḥ sānunayam vacaḥ
23. tataḥ paramasaṃbhrāntāḥ sarṣisaṃghāḥ surarṣabhāḥ
mahātmānam viśvāmitram sānunayam vacaḥ ūcuḥ
23. Then, greatly bewildered, the assemblies of sages and the foremost among the gods spoke a conciliatory word to the noble-souled Viśvāmitra.
अयं राजा महाभाग गुरुशापपरिक्षतः ।
सशरीरो दिवं यातुं नार्हत्येव तपोधन ॥२४॥
24. ayaṃ rājā mahābhāga guruśāpaparikṣataḥ ,
saśarīro divaṃ yātuṃ nārhatyeva tapodhana.
24. ayam rājā mahābhāga guruśāpaparikṣataḥ
saśarīraḥ divam yātum na arhati eva tapodhana
24. mahābhāga tapodhana! ayam rājā guruśāpaparikṣataḥ
[san] saśarīraḥ divam yātum na eva arhati
24. O greatly fortunate one, this king is afflicted by his guru's curse. He is simply not worthy to go to heaven in his physical body, O ascetic (tapas).
तेषां तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा देवानां मुनिपुंगवः ।
अब्रवीत् सुमहद्वाक्यं कौशिकः सर्वदेवताः ॥२५॥
25. teṣāṃ tadvacanaṃ śrutvā devānāṃ munipuṃgavaḥ ,
abravīt sumahadvākyaṃ kauśikaḥ sarvadevatāḥ.
25. teṣām tat vacanam śrutvā devānām munipuṅgavaḥ
abravīt sumahat vākyam kauśikaḥ sarvadevatāḥ
25. teṣām devānām tat vacanam śrutvā munipuṅgavaḥ
kauśikaḥ sarvadevatāḥ [prati] sumahat vākyam abravīt
25. Having heard those words of the gods, Kauśika (Viśvāmitra), the foremost among sages, spoke a very important statement to all the deities.
सशरीरस्य भद्रं वस्त्रिशङ्कोरस्य भूपतेः ।
आरोहणं प्रतिज्ञाय नानृतं कर्तुमुत्सहे ॥२६॥
26. saśarīrasya bhadraṃ vastriśaṅkorasya bhūpateḥ ,
ārohaṇaṃ pratijñāya nānṛtaṃ kartumutsahe.
26. saśarīrasya bhadram vastriśaṅkorasya bhūpateḥ
ārohaṇam pratijñāya na anṛtam kartum utsahe
26. saśarīrasya vastriśaṅkorasya bhūpateḥ bhadram
ārohaṇam pratijñāya anṛtam kartum na utsahe
26. Welfare to the embodied King Vastriśaṅku! Having pledged his bodily ascent, I cannot bring myself to utter a falsehood.
सर्गो ऽस्तु सशरीरस्य त्रिशङ्कोरस्य शाश्वतः ।
नक्षत्राणि च सर्वाणि मामकानि ध्रुवाण्यथ ॥२७॥
27. sargo'stu saśarīrasya triśaṅkorasya śāśvataḥ ,
nakṣatrāṇi ca sarvāṇi māmakāni dhruvāṇyatha.
27. sargaḥ astu saśarīrasya triśaṅkoḥ asya śāśvataḥ
nakṣatrāṇi ca sarvāṇi māmakāni dhruvāṇi atha
27. saśarīrasya asya triśaṅkoḥ śāśvataḥ sargaḥ astu
ca atha sarvāṇi māmakāni nakṣatrāṇi dhruvāṇi
27. Let there be an eternal realm (sarga) for this embodied Triśaṅku. Furthermore, let all these constellations, created by me, be fixed and enduring.
यावल् लोका धरिष्यन्ति तिष्ठन्त्वेतानि सर्वशः ।
मत्कृतानि सुराः सर्वे तदनुज्ञातुमर्हथ ॥२८॥
28. yāval lokā dhariṣyanti tiṣṭhantvetāni sarvaśaḥ ,
matkṛtāni surāḥ sarve tadanujñātumarhatha.
28. yāvat lokāḥ dhariṣyanti tiṣṭhantu etāni sarvaśaḥ
matkṛtāni surāḥ sarve tat anujñātum arhatha
28. yāvat lokāḥ dhariṣyanti (tāvat) matkṛtāni etāni sarvaśaḥ tiṣṭhantu he surāḥ sarve,
tat anujñātum arhatha
28. As long as worlds (lokas) endure, let all these [constellations], which I have created, remain perpetually. O all you gods, you ought to approve of this.
एवमुक्ताः सुराः सर्वे
प्रत्यूचुर्मुनिपुंगवम् ॥२९॥
29. evamuktāḥ surāḥ sarve
pratyūcurmunipuṃgavam.

29. All the gods, thus addressed, replied to the chief among the sages.
एवं भवतु भद्रं ते तिष्ठन्त्वेतानि सर्वशः ।
गगने तान्यनेकानि वैश्वानरपथाद्बहिः ॥३०॥
30. evaṃ bhavatu bhadraṃ te tiṣṭhantvetāni sarvaśaḥ ,
gagane tānyanekāni vaiśvānarapathādbahiḥ.
30. evam bhavatu bhadram te tiṣṭhantu etāni sarvaśaḥ
gagane tāni anekāni vaiśvānarapathāt bahiḥ
30. evam te bhadram bhavatu etāni anekāni tāni
sarvaśaḥ gagane vaiśvānarapathāt bahiḥ tiṣṭhantu
30. Let it be so; may good fortune be with you. Let all these numerous things remain entirely in the sky, beyond the path of Vaiśvānara.
नक्षत्राणि मुनिश्रेष्ठ तेषु ज्योतिःषु जाज्वलन् ।
अवाक्शिरास्त्रिशङ्कुश्च तिष्ठत्वमरसंनिभः ॥३१॥
31. nakṣatrāṇi muniśreṣṭha teṣu jyotiḥṣu jājvalan ,
avākśirāstriśaṅkuśca tiṣṭhatvamarasaṃnibhaḥ.

avākśirāḥ triśaṅkuḥ ca tiṣṭhatu amarasannibhaḥ
31. muniśreṣṭha teṣu nakṣatrāṇi jyotiḥṣu jājvalan
amarasannibhaḥ avākśirāḥ ca triśaṅkuḥ tiṣṭhatu
31. O best of sages, among those shining luminaries (stars), let Triśaṅku remain, radiant like a god and suspended head-downwards.
विश्वामित्रस्तु धर्मात्मा सर्वदेवैरभिष्टुतः ।
ऋषिभिश्च महातेजा बाढमित्याह देवताः ॥३२॥
32. viśvāmitrastu dharmātmā sarvadevairabhiṣṭutaḥ ,
ṛṣibhiśca mahātejā bāḍhamityāha devatāḥ.
32. viśvāmitraḥ tu dharmātmā sarvadevaiḥ abhiṣṭutaḥ
ṛṣibhiḥ ca mahātejāḥ bāḍham iti āha devatāḥ
32. tu dharmātmā sarvadevaiḥ ṛṣibhiḥ ca abhiṣṭutaḥ
mahātejāḥ viśvāmitraḥ devatāḥ bāḍham iti āha
32. Indeed, Viśvāmitra, the greatly glorious one, whose nature (dharma) was righteousness, and who was praised by all the gods and sages, said to the deities, 'So be it!'
ततो देवा महात्मानो मुनयश्च तपोधनाः ।
जग्मुर्यथागतं सर्वे यज्ञस्यान्ते नरोत्तम ॥३३॥
33. tato devā mahātmāno munayaśca tapodhanāḥ ,
jagmuryathāgataṃ sarve yajñasyānte narottama.
33. tataḥ devāḥ mahātmānaḥ munayaḥ ca tapodhanāḥ
jagmuḥ yathāgatam sarve yajñasya ante narottama
33. narottama tataḥ sarve mahātmānaḥ devāḥ ca
tapodhanāḥ munayaḥ yajñasya ante yathāgatam jagmuḥ
33. O best of men, thereafter, all the great-souled gods and sages, whose wealth was spiritual discipline (tapas), departed as they had arrived, at the conclusion of the ritual (yajña).
