ते तु तस्मिन्महावृक्ष उषित्वा रजनीं शिवाम् ।
विमले ऽभ्युदिते सूर्ये तस्माद्देशात् प्रतस्थिरे ॥१॥

1. But having rested that auspicious night under that great tree, they departed from that place as the sun rose clear.
यत्र भागीरथी गङ्गा यमुनामभिवर्तते ।
जग्मुस्तं देशमुद्दिश्य विगाह्य सुमहद्वनम् ॥२॥
2. yatra bhāgīrathī gaṅgā yamunāmabhivartate ,
jagmustaṃ deśamuddiśya vigāhya sumahadvanam.
2. yatra bhāgīrathī gaṅgā yamunām abhivartate |
jagmuḥ tam deśam uddiśya vigāhya sumahat vanam
2. te sumahat vanam vigāhya yatra bhāgīrathī gaṅgā

2. They proceeded, heading towards that place where the Bhagirathi Ganga converges with the Yamuna, after penetrating a very great forest.
ते भूमिमागान् विविधान्देशांश्चापि मनोरमान् ।
अदृष्टपूर्वान्पश्यन्तस्तत्र तत्र यशस्विनः ॥३॥
3. te bhūmimāgān vividhāndeśāṃścāpi manoramān ,
adṛṣṭapūrvānpaśyantastatra tatra yaśasvinaḥ.
3. te bhūmimāgān vividhān deśān ca api manoramān
adṛṣṭapūrvān paśyantaḥ tatra tatra yaśasvinaḥ
3. te yaśasvinaḥ tatra tatra adṛṣṭapūrvān vividhān

3. Those glorious ones (yaśasvinaḥ), seeing various regions of the earth and charming countries, many of which they had never seen before, here and there.
यथाक्षेमेण गच्छन् स पश्यंश्च विविधान्द्रुमान् ।
निवृत्तमात्रे दिवसे रामः सौमित्रिमब्रवीत् ॥४॥
4. yathākṣemeṇa gacchan sa paśyaṃśca vividhāndrumān ,
nivṛttamātre divase rāmaḥ saumitrimabravīt.

4. As he was proceeding safely, observing various trees, just as the day was drawing to a close, Rama spoke to Lakshmana (Saumitri).
प्रयागमभितः पश्य सौमित्रे धूममुन्नतम् ।
अग्नेर्भगवतः केतुं मन्ये संनिहितो मुनिः ॥५॥
5. prayāgamabhitaḥ paśya saumitre dhūmamunnatam ,
agnerbhagavataḥ ketuṃ manye saṃnihito muniḥ.

agneḥ bhagavataḥ ketum manye saṃnihitaḥ muniḥ

5. O Lakshmana (Saumitri), behold the towering smoke near Prayaga. I believe it is a sign of the venerable fire (agni), indicating that a sage (muni) is nearby.
नूनं प्राप्ताः स्म संभेदं गङ्गायमुनयोर्वयम् ।
तथा हि श्रूयते शम्ब्दो वारिणा वारिघट्टितः ॥६॥
6. nūnaṃ prāptāḥ sma saṃbhedaṃ gaṅgāyamunayorvayam ,
tathā hi śrūyate śambdo vāriṇā vārighaṭṭitaḥ.
6. nūnam prāptāḥ sma saṃbhedam gaṅgāyamunayoḥ vayam
tathā hi śrūyate śabdaḥ vāriṇā vārighaṭṭitaḥ

6. Surely we have reached the confluence (saṃbheda) of the Ganges and Yamuna. For indeed, a sound of water agitated by water is heard.
दारूणि परिभिन्नानि वनजैरुपजीविभिः ।
भरद्वाजाश्रमे चैते दृश्यन्ते विविधा द्रुमाः ॥७॥
7. dārūṇi paribhinnāni vanajairupajīvibhiḥ ,
bharadvājāśrame caite dṛśyante vividhā drumāḥ.
7. dārūṇi paribhinnāni vanajaiḥ upajīvibhiḥ
bharadvājāśrame ca ete dṛśyante vividhā drumāḥ
7. ca bharadvājāśrame ete vividhāḥ drumāḥ vanajaiḥ

7. And in Bharadvāja's hermitage (āśrama), these diverse trees are seen, their wood having been split by those who live off the forest.
धन्विनौ तौ सुखं गत्वा लम्बमाने दिवाकरे ।
गङ्गायमुनयोः संधौ प्रापतुर्निलयं मुनेः ॥८॥
8. dhanvinau tau sukhaṃ gatvā lambamāne divākare ,
gaṅgāyamunayoḥ saṃdhau prāpaturnilayaṃ muneḥ.

gaṅgāyamunayoḥ saṃdhau prāpatuḥ nilayam muneḥ

8. Those two bowmen, having traveled comfortably as the sun was setting, reached the abode of the sage at the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna.
रामस्त्वाश्रममासाद्य त्रासयन्मृगपक्षिणः ।
गत्वा मुहूर्तमध्वानं भरद्वाजमुपागमत् ॥९॥
9. rāmastvāśramamāsādya trāsayanmṛgapakṣiṇaḥ ,
gatvā muhūrtamadhvānaṃ bharadvājamupāgamat.
9. rāmaḥ tu āśramam āsādya trāsayān mṛgapakṣiṇaḥ
gatvā muhūrtam adhvānam bharadvājam upāgamat
9. rāmaḥ tu āśramam āsādya mṛgapakṣiṇaḥ trāsayān
muhūrtam adhvānam gatvā bharadvājam upāgamat
9. Rama, having reached the hermitage (āśrama) and frightening the deer and birds, then traveled for a short while before approaching Bharadvāja.
ततस्त्वाश्रममासाद्य मुनेर्दर्शनकाङ्क्षिणौ ।
सीतयानुगतौ वीरौ दूरादेवावतस्थतुः ॥१०॥
10. tatastvāśramamāsādya munerdarśanakāṅkṣiṇau ,
sītayānugatau vīrau dūrādevāvatasthatuḥ.
10. tataḥ tu āśramam āsādya muneḥ darśanakāṅkṣiṇau
sītayā anugatau vīrau dūrāt eva avatasthatuḥ
10. tataḥ tu āśramam āsādya muneḥ darśanakāṅkṣiṇau
sītayā anugatau vīrau dūrāt eva avatasthatuḥ
10. Then, having reached the hermitage (āśrama), the two heroes, desirous of seeing the sage and accompanied by Sita, stopped at a distance.
हुताग्निहोत्रं दृष्ट्वैव महाभागं कृताञ्जलिः ।
रामः सौमित्रिणा सार्धं सीतया चाभ्यवादयत् ॥११॥
11. hutāgnihotraṃ dṛṣṭvaiva mahābhāgaṃ kṛtāñjaliḥ ,
rāmaḥ saumitriṇā sārdhaṃ sītayā cābhyavādayat.
11. hutāgnihotram dṛṣṭvā eva mahābhāgam kṛtāñjaliḥ
rāmaḥ saumitriṇā sārdham sītayā ca abhyavādayat
11. rāmaḥ kṛtāñjaliḥ hutāgnihotram mahābhāgam dṛṣṭvā

11. Seeing the greatly illustrious sage, who had just performed his fire Vedic ritual (yajña), Rama, with folded hands, along with Lakshmana and Sita, offered salutations.
न्यवेदयत चात्मानं तस्मै लक्ष्मणपूर्वजः ।
पुत्रौ दशरथस्यावां भगवन् रामलक्ष्मणौ ॥१२॥
12. nyavedayata cātmānaṃ tasmai lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ ,
putrau daśarathasyāvāṃ bhagavan rāmalakṣmaṇau.
12. ni avedayat ca ātmānam tasmai lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ
putrau daśarathasya āvām bhagavan rāmalakṣmaṇau
12. lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ ca ātmānam tasmai ni avedayat
bhagavan āvām daśarathasya putrau rāmalakṣmaṇau
12. And Rama, the elder brother of Lakshmana, introduced himself to him, saying, "O venerable one, we are Rama and Lakshmana, the two sons of Dasharatha."
भार्या ममेयं वैदेही कल्याणी जनकात्मजा ।
मां चानुयाता विजनं तपोवनमनिन्दिता ॥१३॥
13. bhāryā mameyaṃ vaidehī kalyāṇī janakātmajā ,
māṃ cānuyātā vijanaṃ tapovanamaninditā.
13. bhāryā mama iyam vaidehī kalyāṇī janakātmajā
mām ca anuyātā vijanam tapovanam aninditā
13. iyam aninditā vaidehī mama kalyāṇī bhāryā
janakātmajā ca vijanam tapovanam mām anuyātā
13. And this is my blameless wife, Vaidehi, the auspicious daughter of Janaka, who has followed me to this solitary forest hermitage.
पित्रा प्रव्राज्यमानं मां सौमित्रिरनुजः प्रियः ।
अयमन्वगमद्भ्राता वनमेव दृढव्रतः ॥१४॥
14. pitrā pravrājyamānaṃ māṃ saumitriranujaḥ priyaḥ ,
ayamanvagamadbhrātā vanameva dṛḍhavrataḥ.
14. pitrā pravrājyamānam mām saumitriḥ anujaḥ priyaḥ
ayam anu agamat bhrātā vanam eva dṛḍhavrataḥ
14. pitrā pravrājyamānam mām ayam dṛḍhavrataḥ priyaḥ
anujaḥ bhrātā saumitriḥ vanam eva anu agamat
14. This dear younger brother, Lakshmana, son of Sumitra, firm in his resolve, followed me to the forest when I was being exiled by my father.
पित्रा नियुक्ता भगवन्प्रवेष्यामस्तपोवनम् ।
धर्ममेवाचरिष्यामस्तत्र मूलफलाशनाः ॥१५॥
15. pitrā niyuktā bhagavanpraveṣyāmastapovanam ,
dharmamevācariṣyāmastatra mūlaphalāśanāḥ.
15. pitrā niyuktāḥ bhagavan praveṣyāmaḥ tapovanam
dharmam eva ācariṣyāmaḥ tatra mūlaphalāśanāḥ
15. bhagavan pitrā niyuktāḥ (vayam) tapovanam praveṣyāmaḥ
tatra mūlaphalāśanāḥ (santaḥ) dharmam eva ācariṣyāmaḥ
15. O revered one, commanded by our father, we shall enter the hermitage. There, subsisting on roots and fruits, we shall indeed practice our duty (dharma).
तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा राजपुत्रस्य धीमतः ।
उपानयत धर्मात्मा गामर्घ्यमुदकं ततः ॥१६॥
16. tasya tadvacanaṃ śrutvā rājaputrasya dhīmataḥ ,
upānayata dharmātmā gāmarghyamudakaṃ tataḥ.
16. tasya tat vacanam śrutvā rājaputrasya dhīmataḥ
upānayata dharmātmā gām arghyam udakam tataḥ
16. tataḥ dharmātmā tasya dhīmataḥ rājaputrasya
tat vacanam śrutvā gām arghyam udakam upānayata
16. Having heard those words from that wise prince, the righteous one (dharmātmā) then presented him with a cow, water for a respectful offering (arghya), and (other) water.
मृगपक्षिभिरासीनो मुनिभिश्च समन्ततः ।
राममागतमभ्यर्च्य स्वागतेनाह तं मुनिः ॥१७॥
17. mṛgapakṣibhirāsīno munibhiśca samantataḥ ,
rāmamāgatamabhyarcya svāgatenāha taṃ muniḥ.
17. mṛgapakṣibhiḥ āsīnaḥ munibhiḥ ca samantataḥ
rāmam āgatam abhyarcya svāgatena āha tam muniḥ
17. samantataḥ mṛgapakṣibhiḥ ca munibhiḥ āsīnaḥ
muniḥ āgatam rāmam abhyarcya svāgatena tam āha
17. The sage, seated amidst deer, birds, and other ascetics (munis) all around, honored Rāma upon his arrival and spoke to him with words of welcome.
प्रतिगृह्य च तामर्चामुपविष्टं सराघवम् ।
भरद्वाजो ऽब्रवीद्वाक्यं धर्मयुक्तमिदं तदा ॥१८॥
18. pratigṛhya ca tāmarcāmupaviṣṭaṃ sarāghavam ,
bharadvājo'bravīdvākyaṃ dharmayuktamidaṃ tadā.
18. pratigṛhya ca tām arcām upaviṣṭam sarāghavam
bharadvājaḥ abravīt vākyam dharmayuktam idam tadā
18. ca tadā bharadvājaḥ tām arcām pratigṛhya upaviṣṭam
sarāghavam (rāmam prati) idam dharmayuktam vākyam abravīt
18. And then, having accepted that honor, Bharadvāja spoke these words, filled with righteousness (dharma), to Rāma, who was seated with his companions.
चिरस्य खलु काकुत्स्थ पश्यामि त्वामिहागतम् ।
श्रुतं तव मया चेदं विवासनमकारणम् ॥१९॥
19. cirasya khalu kākutstha paśyāmi tvāmihāgatam ,
śrutaṃ tava mayā cedaṃ vivāsanamakāraṇam.
19. cirasya khalu kākutstha paśyāmi tvām iha āgatam
śrutam tava mayā ca idam vivāsanam akāraṇam
19. kākutstha cirasya khalu iha āgatam tvām paśyāmi
ca mayā tava idam akāraṇam vivāsanam śrutam
19. O scion of Kakutstha (Rama), indeed, it is after a long time that I see you arrived here. I have also heard about this baseless exile of yours.
अवकाशो विविक्तो ऽयं महानद्योः समागमे ।
पुण्यश्च रमणीयश्च वसत्विह भगान् सुखम् ॥२०॥
20. avakāśo vivikto'yaṃ mahānadyoḥ samāgame ,
puṇyaśca ramaṇīyaśca vasatviha bhagān sukham.
20. avakāśaḥ viviktaḥ ayam mahānadyoḥ samāgame puṇyaḥ
ca ramaṇīyaḥ ca vasatu iha bhagavan sukham
20. ayam viviktaḥ mahānadyoḥ samāgame avakāśaḥ puṇyaḥ
ca ramaṇīyaḥ ca bhagavan iha sukham vasatu
20. This is a secluded, sacred, and beautiful spot at the confluence of the two great rivers. O revered sir, may you dwell here happily and comfortably.
एवमुक्तस्तु वचनं भरद्वाजेन राघवः ।
प्रत्युवाच शुभं वाक्यं रामः सर्वहिते रतः ॥२१॥
21. evamuktastu vacanaṃ bharadvājena rāghavaḥ ,
pratyuvāca śubhaṃ vākyaṃ rāmaḥ sarvahite rataḥ.
21. evam uktaḥ tu vacanam bharadvājena rāghavaḥ
pratyuvāca śubham vākyam rāmaḥ sarvahite rataḥ
21. bharadvājena evam uktaḥ tu rāghavaḥ rāmaḥ
sarvahite rataḥ śubham vacanam pratyuvāca
21. Thus spoken to by Bharadvaja, Rama, the scion of Raghu, who was dedicated to the welfare of all, replied with auspicious words.
भगवन्नित आसन्नः पौरजानपदो जनः ।
आगमिष्यति वैदेहीं मां चापि प्रेक्षको जनः ।
अनेन कारणेनाहमिह वासं न रोचये ॥२२॥
22. bhagavannita āsannaḥ paurajānapado janaḥ ,
āgamiṣyati vaidehīṃ māṃ cāpi prekṣako janaḥ ,
anena kāraṇenāhamiha vāsaṃ na rocaye.
22. bhagavan itaḥ āsannaḥ paurajānpadaḥ
janaḥ āgamiṣyati vaidehīm mām
ca api prekṣakaḥ janaḥ anena
kāraṇena aham iha vāsam na rocaye
22. bhagavan itaḥ āsannaḥ paurajānpadaḥ
janaḥ ca api prekṣakaḥ janaḥ
vaidehīm mām āgamiṣyati anena
kāraṇena aham iha vāsam na rocaye
22. O revered sir (Bhagavan), from this location, the people from the city and the countryside will come near. Indeed, people will come to see both Vaidehi and me. For this very reason, I do not wish to reside here.
एकान्ते पश्य भगवन्नाश्रमस्थानमुत्तमम् ।
रमते यत्र वैदेही सुखार्हा जनकात्मजा ॥२३॥
23. ekānte paśya bhagavannāśramasthānamuttamam ,
ramate yatra vaidehī sukhārhā janakātmajā.
23. ekānte paśya bhagavan āśramasthānam uttamam
ramate yatra vaidehī sukhārhā janakātmajā
23. bhagavan paśya uttamam āśramasthānam ekānte
yatra vaidehī janakātmajā sukhārhā ramate
23. O revered one, behold this excellent hermitage site in a secluded spot, where Vaidehī, Janaka's daughter, who is deserving of happiness, finds delight.
एतच्छ्रुत्वा शुभं वाक्यं भरद्वाजो महामुनिः ।
राघवस्य ततो वाक्यमर्थ ग्राहकमब्रवीत् ॥२४॥
24. etacchrutvā śubhaṃ vākyaṃ bharadvājo mahāmuniḥ ,
rāghavasya tato vākyamartha grāhakamabravīt.
24. etat śrutvā śubham vākyam bharadvājaḥ mahāmuniḥ
rāghavasya tataḥ vākyam arthagrāhakam abravīt
24. mahāmuniḥ bharadvājaḥ etat śubham vākyam śrutvā
tataḥ rāghavasya arthagrāhakam vākyam abravīt
24. Having heard this auspicious statement, the great sage Bharadvāja then spoke a meaningful word to Rāghava.
दशक्रोश इतस्तात गिरिर्यस्मिन्निवत्स्यसि ।
महर्षिसेवितः पुण्यः सर्वतः सुख दर्शनः ॥२५॥
25. daśakrośa itastāta giriryasminnivatsyasi ,
maharṣisevitaḥ puṇyaḥ sarvataḥ sukha darśanaḥ.
25. daśakrośa itaḥ tāta giriḥ yasmin nivatsyasi
maharṣisevitaḥ puṇyaḥ sarvataḥ sukhadarśanaḥ
25. tāta itaḥ daśakrośa giriḥ yasmin nivatsyasi
maharṣisevitaḥ puṇyaḥ sarvataḥ sukhadarśanaḥ
25. Dear child, ten krosas from here is a mountain where you will reside. It is frequented by great sages, sacred, and pleasant to behold from all directions.
गोलाङ्गूलानुचरितो वानरर्क्षनिषेवितः ।
चित्रकूट इति ख्यातो गन्धमादनसंनिभः ॥२६॥
26. golāṅgūlānucarito vānararkṣaniṣevitaḥ ,
citrakūṭa iti khyāto gandhamādanasaṃnibhaḥ.
26. golāṅgūlānucaritaḥ vānararṣaniṣevitaḥ
citrakūṭaḥ iti khyātaḥ gandhamādanasaṃnibhaḥ
26. golāṅgūlānucaritaḥ vānararṣaniṣevitaḥ
citrakūṭaḥ iti khyātaḥ gandhamādanasaṃnibhaḥ
26. It is frequented by long-tailed monkeys, and resorted to by monkeys and bears. It is renowned as Citrakūṭa, and resembles Mount Gandhamādana.
यावता चित्र कूटस्य नरः शृङ्गाण्यवेक्षते ।
कल्याणानि समाधत्ते न पापे कुरुते मनः ॥२७॥
27. yāvatā citra kūṭasya naraḥ śṛṅgāṇyavekṣate ,
kalyāṇāni samādhatte na pāpe kurute manaḥ.
27. yāvatā citrakūṭasya naraḥ śṛṅgāṇi avekṣate
kalyāṇāni samādhatte na pāpe kurute manaḥ
27. naraḥ yāvatā citrakūṭasya śṛṅgāṇi avekṣate,
kalyāṇāni samādhatte,
pāpe manaḥ na kurute
27. As long as a person gazes upon the peaks of Citrakuta, he directs his thoughts towards auspiciousness and does not set his mind on sin.
ऋषयस्तत्र बहवो विहृत्य शरदां शतम् ।
तपसा दिवमारूढाः कपालशिरसा सह ॥२८॥
28. ṛṣayastatra bahavo vihṛtya śaradāṃ śatam ,
tapasā divamārūḍhāḥ kapālaśirasā saha.
28. ṛṣayaḥ tatra bahavaḥ vihṛtya śaradām śatam
tapasā divam ārūḍhāḥ kapālaśirasā saha
28. tatra bahavaḥ ṛṣayaḥ śaradām śatam vihṛtya,
kapālaśirasā saha,
tapasā divam ārūḍhāḥ
28. Many sages, after residing there for a hundred years, ascended to heaven through their asceticism (tapas), accompanied by their skull-heads.
प्रविविक्तमहं मन्ये तं वासं भवतः सुखम् ।
इह वा वनवासाय वस राम मया सह ॥२९॥
29. praviviktamahaṃ manye taṃ vāsaṃ bhavataḥ sukham ,
iha vā vanavāsāya vasa rāma mayā saha.
29. praviviktam aham manye tam vāsam bhavataḥ
sukham iha vā vanavāsāya vasa rāma mayā saha
29. aham tam praviviktam vāsam bhavataḥ sukham manye.
vā rāma,
vanavāsāya mayā saha iha vasa
29. I consider that secluded dwelling to be pleasant for you. Alternatively, O Rama, stay here with me for your period of forest-dwelling.
स रामं सर्वकामैस्तं भरद्वाजः प्रियातिथिम् ।
सभार्यं सह च भ्रात्रा प्रतिजग्राह धर्मवित् ॥३०॥
30. sa rāmaṃ sarvakāmaistaṃ bharadvājaḥ priyātithim ,
sabhāryaṃ saha ca bhrātrā pratijagrāha dharmavit.
30. saḥ rāmam sarvakāmaiḥ tam bharadvājaḥ priyātithim
sabhāryam saha ca bhrātrā pratijagrāha dharmavit
30. dharmavit saḥ bharadvājaḥ sarvakāmaiḥ tam priyātithim,
sabhāryam ca bhrātrā saha rāmam pratijagrāha
30. Bharadvaja, the knower of dharma (natural law), received Rama, his beloved guest, along with his wife and brother, with all desired comforts.
तस्य प्रयागे रामस्य तं महर्षिमुपेयुषः ।
प्रपन्ना रजनी पुण्या चित्राः कथयतः कथाः ॥३१॥
31. tasya prayāge rāmasya taṃ maharṣimupeyuṣaḥ ,
prapannā rajanī puṇyā citrāḥ kathayataḥ kathāḥ.
31. tasya prayāge rāmasya tam maharṣim upeyuṣaḥ
prapannā rajanī puṇyā citrāḥ kathayataḥ kathāḥ
31. prayāge tam maharṣim upeyuṣaḥ tasya rāmasya
puṇyā rajanī citrāḥ kathāḥ kathayataḥ prapannā
31. As Rāma, having approached that great sage in Prayāga, stayed there, a sacred night (rajani) descended upon them, with the sage narrating fascinating stories.
प्रभातायां रजन्यां तु भरद्वाजमुपागमत् ।
उवाच नरशार्दूलो मुनिं ज्वलिततेजसं ॥३२॥
32. prabhātāyāṃ rajanyāṃ tu bharadvājamupāgamat ,
uvāca naraśārdūlo muniṃ jvalitatejasaṃ.
32. prabhātāyām rajanyām tu bharadvājam upāgamat
uvāca naraśārdūlaḥ munim jvalitatejasam
32. tu rajanyām prabhātāyām,
naraśārdūlaḥ bharadvājam upāgamat,
jvalitatejasam munim uvāca
32. But when the night (rajani) dawned, the foremost among men (naraśārdūla) approached Bharadvāja and spoke to the sage whose spiritual luster (tejas) was radiant.
शर्वरीं भवनन्नद्य सत्यशील तवाश्रमे ।
उषिताः स्मेह वसतिमनुजानातु नो भवान् ॥३३॥
33. śarvarīṃ bhavanannadya satyaśīla tavāśrame ,
uṣitāḥ smeha vasatimanujānātu no bhavān.
33. śarvarīm bhavanannadya satyaśīla tava āśrame
uṣitāḥ smaḥ vasatim anujānātu naḥ bhavān
33. satyaśīla bhavanannadya,
adya tava āśrame śarvarīm uṣitāḥ smaḥ.
bhavān naḥ vasatim anujānātu.
33. O truthful one (satyasīla), O Sir, today (bhavanannadya) we have spent this night (śarvarī) in your hermitage (āśrama). May you permit our departure.
रात्र्यां तु तस्यां व्युष्टायां भरद्वाजो ऽब्रवीदिदम् ।
मधुमूलफलोपेतं चित्रकूटं व्रजेति ह ॥३४॥
34. rātryāṃ tu tasyāṃ vyuṣṭāyāṃ bharadvājo'bravīdidam ,
madhumūlaphalopetaṃ citrakūṭaṃ vrajeti ha.
34. rātryām tu tasyām vyuṣṭāyām bharadvājaḥ abravīt
idam madhumūlaphalopetam citrakūṭam vraja iti ha
34. tu tasyām rātryām vyuṣṭāyām,
bharadvājaḥ idam abravīt: "madhumūlaphalopetam citrakūṭam vraja iti ha.
"
34. But when that night (rātri) had ended, Bharadvāja spoke these words: "Indeed, you should go to Citrakūṭa, which is endowed with honey, roots, and fruits."
तत्र कुञ्जरयूथानि मृगयूथानि चाभितः ।
विचरन्ति वनान्तेषु तानि द्रक्ष्यसि राघव ॥३५॥
35. tatra kuñjarayūthāni mṛgayūthāni cābhitaḥ ,
vicaranti vanānteṣu tāni drakṣyasi rāghava.
35. tatra kuñjarayūthāni mṛgayūthāni ca abhitaḥ
vicaranti vanānteṣu tāni drakṣyasi rāghava
35. rāghava tatra vanānteṣu abhitaḥ kuñjarayūthāni
ca mṛgayūthāni tāni vicaranti drakṣyasi
35. Rāghava, you will see there herds of elephants and herds of deer wandering all around in the outskirts of the forest.
प्रहृष्टकोयष्टिककोकिलस्वनैर्विनादितं तं वसुधाधरं शिवम् ।
मृगैश्च मत्तैर्बहुभिश्च कुञ्जरैः सुरम्यमासाद्य समावसाश्रमम् ॥३६॥
36. prahṛṣṭakoyaṣṭikakokilasvanairvināditaṃ taṃ vasudhādharaṃ śivam ,
mṛgaiśca mattairbahubhiśca kuñjaraiḥ suramyamāsādya samāvasāśramam.
36. prahṛṣṭakoyaṣṭikakokilasvanaiḥ
vināditam tam vasudhādharam śivam mṛgaiḥ
ca mattaiḥ bahubhiḥ ca kuñjaraiḥ
suramyam āsādya samāvasa āśramam
36. prahṛṣṭakoyaṣṭikakokilasvanaiḥ
vināditam mattaiḥ bahubhiḥ mṛgaiḥ ca
kuñjaraiḥ ca suramyam śivam tam
vasudhādharam āsādya āśramam samāvasa
36. Having reached that very beautiful and auspicious mountain, which is made resonant by the calls of joyful partridges and cuckoos, and by many intoxicated elephants and deer, you should settle in the hermitage (āśrama).
