सान्त्व्यमाना तु रामेण मैथिली जनकात्मजा ।
वनवासनिमित्ताय भर्तारमिदमब्रवीत् ॥१॥

1. But Maithili, the daughter of Janaka, being consoled by Rama, said this to her husband concerning the reason for the forest dwelling.
सा तमुत्तमसंविग्ना सीता विपुलवक्षसं ।
प्रणयाच्चाभिमानाच्च परिचिक्षेप राघवम् ॥२॥
2. sā tamuttamasaṃvignā sītā vipulavakṣasaṃ ,
praṇayāccābhimānācca paricikṣepa rāghavam.
2. sā tam uttamasaṃvignā sītā vipulavakṣasam
praṇayāt ca abhimānāt ca paricikṣepa rāghavam

2. She, Sita, being exceedingly agitated, then reproached that broad-chested Raghava, spurred by both love (praṇaya) and pride (abhimāna).
किं त्वामन्यत वैदेहः पिता मे मिथिलाधिपः ।
राम जामातरं प्राप्य स्त्रियं पुरुषविग्रहम् ॥३॥
3. kiṃ tvāmanyata vaidehaḥ pitā me mithilādhipaḥ ,
rāma jāmātaraṃ prāpya striyaṃ puruṣavigraham.
3. kim tvām amanyata vaidehaḥ pitā me mithilādhipaḥ
rāma jāmātaram prāpya striyam puruṣavigraham
3. rāma me pitā vaidehaḥ mithilādhipaḥ tvām jāmātaram
puruṣavigraham striyam prāpya kim amanyata
3. O Rāma, what would my father, the king of Videha and lord of Mithila, have thought after obtaining you as a son-in-law, (you acting like) a woman in the guise of a man?
अनृतं बललोको ऽयमज्ञानाद् यद्धि वक्ष्यति ।
तेजो नास्ति परं रामे तपतीव दिवाकरे ॥४॥
4. anṛtaṃ balaloko'yamajñānād yaddhi vakṣyati ,
tejo nāsti paraṃ rāme tapatīva divākare.
4. anṛtam balalokaḥ ayam ajñānāt yat hi vakṣyati
tejaḥ na asti param rāme tapati iva divākare
4. ayam balalokaḥ hi ajñānāt yat anṛtam vakṣyati
rāme param tejaḥ na asti divākare iva tapati
4. This common folk, indeed, will speak falsehoods out of ignorance. But there is no radiance (tejas) superior to that in Rāma, who shines like the sun (divākara).
किं हि कृत्वा विषण्णस्त्वं कुतो वा भयमस्ति ते ।
यत् परित्यक्तुकामस्त्वं मामनन्यपरायणाम् ॥५॥
5. kiṃ hi kṛtvā viṣaṇṇastvaṃ kuto vā bhayamasti te ,
yat parityaktukāmastvaṃ māmananyaparāyaṇām.
5. kim hi kṛtvā viṣaṇṇaḥ tvam kutaḥ vā bhayam asti
te yat parityaktukāmaḥ tvam mām ananyaparāyaṇām
5. tvam kim hi kṛtvā viṣaṇṇaḥ vā te kutaḥ bhayam
asti yat tvam ananyaparāyaṇām mām parityaktukāmaḥ
5. What, indeed, have you done that you are dejected? Or from where does this fear come to you, that you desire to abandon me, who has no other refuge?
द्युमत्सेनसुतं वीर सत्यवन्तमनुव्रताम् ।
सावित्रीमिव मां विद्धि त्वमात्मवशवर्तिनीम् ॥६॥
6. dyumatsenasutaṃ vīra satyavantamanuvratām ,
sāvitrīmiva māṃ viddhi tvamātmavaśavartinīm.
6. dyumatsenasutam vīra satyavantam anuvratām
sāvitrīm iva mām viddhi tvam ātmavaśavartinīm
6. vīra tvam mām dyumatsenasutam satyavantam
anuvratām sāvitrīm iva ātmavaśavartinīm viddhi
6. O hero (vīra), know me to be like Sāvitrī, who was devoted to Satyavan, the son of Dyumatsena, and (know me as) self-controlled.
न त्वहं मनसाप्यन्यं द्रष्टास्मि त्वदृते ऽनघ ।
त्वया राघव गच्छेयं यथान्या कुलपांसनी ॥७॥
7. na tvahaṃ manasāpyanyaṃ draṣṭāsmi tvadṛte'nagha ,
tvayā rāghava gaccheyaṃ yathānyā kulapāṃsanī.
7. na tu aham manasā api anyam draṣṭā asmi tvat ṛte
anagha tvayā rāghava gaccheyam yathā anyā kulapāṃsanī
7. anagha tu aham manasā api tvat ṛte anyam draṣṭā
asmi rāghava tvayā gaccheyam yathā anyā kulapāṃsanī
7. O sinless one (anagha), I shall not, even with my mind, look at any other (man) besides you. O Rāghava, I desire to go with you; I am not like any other woman who would disgrace her family.
स्वयं तु भार्यां कौमारीं चिरमध्युषितां सतीम् ।
शैलूष इव मां राम परेभ्यो दातुमिच्छसि ॥८॥
8. svayaṃ tu bhāryāṃ kaumārīṃ ciramadhyuṣitāṃ satīm ,
śailūṣa iva māṃ rāma parebhyo dātumicchasi.
8. svayam tu bhāryām kaumārīm ciram adhyuṣitām satīm
śailūṣaḥ iva mām rāma parebhyaḥ dātum icchasi
8. rāma tu svayam mām kaumārīm ciram adhyuṣitām
satīm bhāryām śailūṣaḥ iva parebhyaḥ dātum icchasi
8. But you yourself, O Rāma, wish to give me - your maiden wife, chaste and lived with for a long time - to others, just like an actor.
स मामनादाय वनं न त्वं प्रस्थातुमर्हसि ।
तपो वा यदि वारण्यं स्वर्गो वा स्यात् सह त्वया ॥९॥
9. sa māmanādāya vanaṃ na tvaṃ prasthātumarhasi ,
tapo vā yadi vāraṇyaṃ svargo vā syāt saha tvayā.
9. saḥ mām anādāya vanam na tvam prasthātum arhasi
tapaḥ vā yadi vā araṇyam svargaḥ vā syāt saha tvayā
9. saḥ tvam mām anādāya vanam prasthātum na arhasi
yadi tapaḥ vā araṇyam vā svargaḥ vā tvayā saha syāt
9. You ought not to depart for the forest without taking me. Whether it be (the practice of) asceticism (tapas), or merely the forest, or even heaven, it would exist only with you.
न च मे भविता तत्र कश्चित् पथि परिश्रमः ।
पृष्ठतस्तव गच्छन्त्या विहारशयनेष्वपि ॥१०॥
10. na ca me bhavitā tatra kaścit pathi pariśramaḥ ,
pṛṣṭhatastava gacchantyā vihāraśayaneṣvapi.
10. na ca me bhavitā tatra kaścit pathi pariśramaḥ
pṛṣṭhataḥ tava gacchantyāḥ vihāraśayaneṣu api
10. ca me tatra pathi kaścit pariśramaḥ na bhavitā
tava pṛṣṭhataḥ gacchantyāḥ vihāraśayaneṣu api
10. And for me, going behind you, there will be no fatigue whatsoever on the path, not even (the fatigue one might experience) amidst leisurely strolls and comfortable beds.
कुशकाशशरेषीका ये च कण्टकिनो द्रुमाः ।
तूलाजिनसमस्पर्शा मार्गे मम सह त्वया ॥११॥
11. kuśakāśaśareṣīkā ye ca kaṇṭakino drumāḥ ,
tūlājinasamasparśā mārge mama saha tvayā.
11. kuśakāśaśareṣīkāḥ ye ca kaṇṭakinaḥ drumāḥ
tūlājinasamasparśāḥ mārge mama saha tvayā
11. mama tvayā saha mārge ye ca kuśakāśaśareṣīkāḥ
kaṇṭakinaḥ drumāḥ tūlājinasamasparśāḥ
11. The kusha (kuśa), kasha (kāśa), shara (śara), and ishika (īṣīkā) grasses, and those thorny trees on the path, when I am with you, will feel as soft to the touch as cotton and deerskin.
महावात समुद्धूतं यन्मामवकरिष्यति ।
रजो रमण तन्मन्ये परार्ध्यमिव चन्दनम् ॥१२॥
12. mahāvāta samuddhūtaṃ yanmāmavakariṣyati ,
rajo ramaṇa tanmanye parārdhyamiva candanam.
12. mahāvāta samuddhūtam yat mām avakariṣyati
rajaḥ ramaṇa tat manye parārdhyam iva candanam
12. ramaṇa mahāvāta samuddhūtam yat rajaḥ mām
avakariṣyati tat manye parārdhyam iva candanam
12. O beloved, I consider that dust, which a great wind will raise and scatter upon me, to be like supreme sandalwood.
शाद्वलेषु यदासिष्ये वनान्ते वनगोरचा ।
कुथास्तरणतल्पेषु किं स्यात् सुखतरं ततः ॥१३॥
13. śādvaleṣu yadāsiṣye vanānte vanagoracā ,
kuthāstaraṇatalpeṣu kiṃ syāt sukhataraṃ tataḥ.
13. śādvaleṣu yadā āsiṣye vanānte vanagorocā
kuthāstaraṇatalpeṣu kim syāt sukhataram tataḥ
13. yadā vanagorocā vanānte śādvaleṣu āsiṣye
tataḥ kuthāstaraṇatalpeṣu kim sukhataram syāt
13. When I recline on the green meadows at the forest's edge, like a wild cow (vanagorocā), what could be more pleasant than that, even compared to resting on beds spread with costly blankets?
पत्रं मूलं फलं यत्त्वमल्पं वा यदि वा बहु ।
दास्यसि स्वयमाहृत्य तन्मे ऽमृतरसोपमम् ॥१४॥
14. patraṃ mūlaṃ phalaṃ yattvamalpaṃ vā yadi vā bahu ,
dāsyasi svayamāhṛtya tanme'mṛtarasopamam.
14. patram mūlam phalam yat tvam alpam vā yadi vā
bahu dāsyasi svayamāhṛtya tat me amṛtarasopamam
14. yat patram mūlam phalam tvam svayamāhṛtya alpam
vā yadi vā bahu dāsyasi tat me amṛtarasopamam
14. Whatever leaf, root, or fruit, whether little or much, you bring yourself and give, that will be like the taste of nectar (amṛta) to me.
न मातुर्न पितुस्तत्र स्मरिष्यामि न वेश्मनः ।
आर्तवान्युपभुञ्जाना पुष्पाणि च फलानि च ॥१५॥
15. na māturna pitustatra smariṣyāmi na veśmanaḥ ,
ārtavānyupabhuñjānā puṣpāṇi ca phalāni ca.
15. na mātuḥ na pituḥ tatra smariṣyāmi na veśmanaḥ
ārtavāni upabhuñjānā puṣpāṇi ca phalāni ca
15. tatra mātuḥ na pituḥ na veśmanaḥ na smariṣyāmi
ārtavāni puṣpāṇi ca phalāni ca upabhuñjānā
15. There I will not remember my mother, nor my father, nor my home, as I enjoy the seasonal flowers and fruits.
न च तत्र गतः किं चिद्द्रष्टुमर्हसि विप्रियम् ।
मत्कृते न च ते शोको न भविष्यामि दुर्भरा ॥१६॥
16. na ca tatra gataḥ kiṃ ciddraṣṭumarhasi vipriyam ,
matkṛte na ca te śoko na bhaviṣyāmi durbharā.
16. na ca tatra gataḥ kim cit draṣṭum arhasi vipriyam
matkṛte na ca te śokaḥ na bhaviṣyāmi durbharā
16. ca tatra gataḥ kim cit vipriyam draṣṭum na arhasi
matkṛte ca te śokaḥ na na durbharā bhaviṣyāmi
16. And having gone there, you ought not to see anything unpleasant. There will be no sorrow for you because of me, nor will I be a burden.
यस्त्वया सह स स्वर्गो निरयो यस्त्वया विना ।
इति जानन्परां प्रीतिं गच्छ राम मया सह ॥१७॥
17. yastvayā saha sa svargo nirayo yastvayā vinā ,
iti jānanparāṃ prītiṃ gaccha rāma mayā saha.
17. yaḥ tvayā saha saḥ svargaḥ nirayaḥ yaḥ tvayā vinā
iti jānan parām prītim gaccha rāma mayā saha
17. yaḥ tvayā saha saḥ svargaḥ yaḥ tvayā vinā nirayaḥ
iti jānan rāma mayā saha parām prītim gaccha
17. That which is with you is heaven; that which is without you is hell. Knowing this, Rama, attain supreme joy with me.
अथ मामेवमव्यग्रां वनं नैव नयिष्यसि ।
विषमद्यैव पास्यामि मा विशं द्विषतां वशम् ॥१८॥
18. atha māmevamavyagrāṃ vanaṃ naiva nayiṣyasi ,
viṣamadyaiva pāsyāmi mā viśaṃ dviṣatāṃ vaśam.
18. atha mām evam avyagrām vanam na eva nayiṣyasi
viṣam adya eva pāsyāmi mā viśam dviṣatām vaśam
18. atha evam avyagrām mām vanam na eva nayiṣyasi
adya eva viṣam pāsyāmi dviṣatām vaśam mā viśam
18. Now, if you will not take me, who am so unwavering, to the forest, I will drink poison today itself. Let me not fall into the power of enemies.
पश्चादपि हि दुःखेन मम नैवास्ति जीवितम् ।
उज्झितायास्त्वया नाथ तदैव मरणं वरम् ॥१९॥
19. paścādapi hi duḥkhena mama naivāsti jīvitam ,
ujjhitāyāstvayā nātha tadaiva maraṇaṃ varam.
19. paścāt api hi duḥkhena mama na eva asti jīvitam
ujjhitāyāḥ tvayā nātha tadā eva maraṇam varam
19. nātha tvayā ujjhitāyāḥ mama paścāt api hi duḥkhena
jīvitam na eva asti tadā eva maraṇam varam
19. O Lord, for me, abandoned by you, there is no life at all afterwards, only sorrow. Indeed, death at that very moment would be preferable.
इदं हि सहितुं शोकं मुहूर्तमपि नोत्सहे ।
किं पुनर्दशवर्षाणि त्रीणि चैकं च दुःखिता ॥२०॥
20. idaṃ hi sahituṃ śokaṃ muhūrtamapi notsahe ,
kiṃ punardaśavarṣāṇi trīṇi caikaṃ ca duḥkhitā.
20. idam hi sahitum śokam muhūrtam api na utsahe
kim punaḥ daśa varṣāṇi trīṇi ca ekam ca duḥkhitā
20. hi duḥkhitā (aham) idam śokam muhūrtam api sahitum na
utsahe punaḥ daśa trīṇi ca ekam ca varṣāṇi kim (sahitum)
20. Indeed, distressed as I am, I cannot endure this grief even for a moment. How much less can I bear it for fourteen years (ten, three, and one)?
इति सा शोकसंतप्ता विलप्य करुणं बहु ।
चुक्रोश पतिमायस्ता भृशमालिङ्ग्य सस्वरम् ॥२१॥
21. iti sā śokasaṃtaptā vilapya karuṇaṃ bahu ,
cukrośa patimāyastā bhṛśamāliṅgya sasvaram.
21. iti sā śokasaṃtaptā vilapya karuṇam bahu
cukrośa patim āyastā bhṛśam āliṅgya sasvaram
21. iti sā śokasaṃtaptā āyastā bahu karuṇam
vilapya patim bhṛśam āliṅgya sasvaram cukrośa
21. Thus, she, afflicted and wearied by grief, after lamenting much and piteously, cried out loudly, intensely embracing her husband.
सा विद्धा बहुभिर्वाक्यैर्दिग्धैरिव गजाङ्गना ।
चिर संनियतं बाष्पं मुमोचाग्निमिवारणिः ॥२२॥
22. sā viddhā bahubhirvākyairdigdhairiva gajāṅganā ,
cira saṃniyataṃ bāṣpaṃ mumocāgnimivāraṇiḥ.
22. sā viddhā bahubhiḥ vākyaiḥ digdhaiḥ iva gajāṅganā
cira saṃniyatam bāṣpam mumoca agnim iva araṇiḥ
22. sā gajāṅganā iva bahubhiḥ digdhaiḥ vākyaiḥ viddhā,
araṇiḥ agnim iva,
cira saṃniyatam bāṣpam mumoca
22. Struck by many poisoned words, she, like a female elephant hit by poisoned darts, released her long-restrained tears, just as a fire-stick (araṇi) produces fire.
तस्याः स्फटिकसंकाशं वारि संतापसंभवम् ।
नेत्राभ्यां परिसुस्राव पङ्कजाभ्यामिवोदकम् ॥२३॥
23. tasyāḥ sphaṭikasaṃkāśaṃ vāri saṃtāpasaṃbhavam ,
netrābhyāṃ parisusrāva paṅkajābhyāmivodakam.
23. tasyāḥ sphaṭikasaṃkāśam vāri saṃtāpasaṃbhavam
netrābhyām parisuṣrāva paṅkajābhyām iva udakam
23. tasyāḥ netrābhyām saṃtāpasaṃbhavam sphaṭikasaṃkāśam
vāri parisuṣrāva paṅkajābhyām iva udakam
23. From her eyes, water, crystal-clear and born of her distress, streamed forth, just as water flows from two lotuses.
तां परिष्वज्य बाहुभ्यां विसंज्ञामिव दुःखिताम् ।
उवाच वचनं रामः परिविश्वासयंस्तदा ॥२४॥
24. tāṃ pariṣvajya bāhubhyāṃ visaṃjñāmiva duḥkhitām ,
uvāca vacanaṃ rāmaḥ pariviśvāsayaṃstadā.
24. tām pariṣvajya bāhubhyām visaṃjñām iva duḥkhitām
uvāca vacanam rāmaḥ pariviśvāsayantaḥ tadā
24. tadā rāmaḥ bāhubhyām tām visaṃjñām iva duḥkhitām
pariṣvajya pariviśvāsayantaḥ vacanam uvāca
24. Then, Rāma, embracing her with his two arms - her who was distressed and as if unconscious - spoke words while reassuring her.
न देवि तव दुःखेन स्वर्गमप्यभिरोचये ।
न हि मे ऽस्ति भयं किं चित् स्वयम्भोरिव सर्वतः ॥२५॥
25. na devi tava duḥkhena svargamapyabhirocaye ,
na hi me'sti bhayaṃ kiṃ cit svayambhoriva sarvataḥ.
25. na devi tava duḥkhena svargam api abhirocaye na
hi me asti bhayam kiṃcit svayambhoḥ iva sarvataḥ
25. devi tava duḥkhena svargam api na abhirocaye hi
me kiṃcit bhayam sarvataḥ svayambhoḥ iva na asti
25. O goddess, I do not desire even heaven if it causes you sorrow. Indeed, there is no fear for me from any quarter, just as there is none for Svayambhu (Brahma).
तव सर्वमभिप्रायमविज्ञाय शुभानने ।
वासं न रोचये ऽरण्ये शक्तिमानपि रक्षणे ॥२६॥
26. tava sarvamabhiprāyamavijñāya śubhānane ,
vāsaṃ na rocaye'raṇye śaktimānapi rakṣaṇe.
26. tava sarvam abhiprāyam avijñāya śubhānanane
vāsam na rocaye araṇye śaktimān api rakṣaṇe
26. śubhānanane tava sarvam abhiprāyam avijñāya
araṇye vāsam na rocaye rakṣaṇe api śaktimān
26. O fair-faced one, without knowing your complete intention, I do not wish to reside in the forest, even though I am capable of protecting you.
यत् सृष्टासि मया सार्धं वनवासाय मैथिलि ।
न विहातुं मया शक्या कीर्तिरात्मवता यथा ॥२७॥
27. yat sṛṣṭāsi mayā sārdhaṃ vanavāsāya maithili ,
na vihātuṃ mayā śakyā kīrtirātmavatā yathā.
27. yat sṛṣṭā asi mayā sārdham vanavāsāya maithili
na vihātum mayā śakyā kīrtiḥ ātmavatā yathā
27. maithili yat mayā sārdham vanavāsāya sṛṣṭā asi
mayā kīrtiḥ ātmavatā yathā na vihātum śakyā
27. O Maithili, since you were created to be with me for forest dwelling, you cannot be abandoned by me, just as fame (kīrti) cannot be abandoned by one who possesses a strong sense of self (ātman).
धर्मस्तु गजनासोरु सद्भिराचरितः पुरा ।
तं चाहमनुवर्ते ऽद्य यथा सूर्यं सुवर्चला ॥२८॥
28. dharmastu gajanāsoru sadbhirācaritaḥ purā ,
taṃ cāhamanuvarte'dya yathā sūryaṃ suvarcalā.
28. dharmaḥ tu gajanāsoru sadbhiḥ ācaritaḥ purā tam
ca aham anuvarte adya yathā sūryam suvarcalā
28. gajanāsoru dharmaḥ tu purā sadbhiḥ ācaritaḥ aham
ca adya tam yathā suvarcalā sūryam anuvarte
28. But this righteous conduct (dharma), O lady with thighs like an elephant's trunk, was practiced by virtuous people in ancient times. And I, today, follow that (dharma), just as Suvarcalā follows the sun.
एष धर्मस्तु सुश्रोणि पितुर्मातुश्च वश्यता ।
अतश्चाज्ञां व्यतिक्रम्य नाहं जीवितुमुत्सहे ॥२९॥
29. eṣa dharmastu suśroṇi piturmātuśca vaśyatā ,
ataścājñāṃ vyatikramya nāhaṃ jīvitumutsahe.
29. eṣaḥ dharmaḥ tu suśroṇi pituḥ mātuḥ ca vaśyatā
ataḥ ca ājñām vyatikramya na aham jīvitum utsahe
29. suśroṇi eṣaḥ dharmaḥ tu pituḥ mātuḥ ca vaśyatā
ataḥ ca ājñām व्यतिक्रम्य aham jīvitum na utsahe
29. Indeed, this natural law (dharma), O beautiful-hipped one, is obedience (vaśyatā) to one's father and mother. Therefore, I do not dare to live after transgressing their command.
स मां पिता यथा शास्ति सत्यधर्मपथे स्थितः ।
तथा वर्तितुमिच्छामि स हि धर्मः सनातनः ।
अनुगच्छस्व मां भीरु सहधर्मचरी भव ॥३०॥
30. sa māṃ pitā yathā śāsti satyadharmapathe sthitaḥ ,
tathā vartitumicchāmi sa hi dharmaḥ sanātanaḥ ,
anugacchasva māṃ bhīru sahadharmacarī bhava.
30. saḥ mām pitā yathā śāsti satyadharmapathe
sthitaḥ tathā vartitum icchāmi
saḥ hi dharmaḥ sanātanaḥ anugacchasva
mām bhīru sahadharmacarī bhava
30. satyadharmapathe sthitaḥ saḥ pitā
mām yathā śāsti tathā vartitum icchāmi
hi saḥ sanātanaḥ dharmaḥ bhīru
mām anugacchasva sahadharmacarī bhava
30. As that father of mine, who is established on the path of truth and natural law (dharma), instructs me, so I wish to act. For that, indeed, is the eternal natural law (dharma). Follow me, O timid one; be my companion in duty (dharma).
ब्राह्मणेभ्यश्च रत्नानि भिक्षुकेभ्यश्च भोजनम् ।
देहि चाशंसमानेभ्यः संत्वरस्व च माचिरम् ॥३१॥
31. brāhmaṇebhyaśca ratnāni bhikṣukebhyaśca bhojanam ,
dehi cāśaṃsamānebhyaḥ saṃtvarasva ca māciram.
31. brāhmaṇebhyaḥ ca ratnāni bhikṣukebhyaḥ ca bhojanam
dehi ca āśaṃsamānebhyaḥ saṃtvarasva ca mā ciram
31. brāhmaṇebhyaḥ ratnāni ca bhikṣukebhyaḥ bhojanam
ca āśaṃsamānebhyaḥ dehi ca saṃtvarasva mā ciram
31. Give jewels to Brahmins and food to beggars, and also to those who desire them. Hasten, and do not delay.
अनुकूलं तु सा भर्तुर्ज्ञात्वा गमनमात्मनः ।
क्षिप्रं प्रमुदिता देवी दातुमेवोपचक्रमे ॥३२॥
32. anukūlaṃ tu sā bharturjñātvā gamanamātmanaḥ ,
kṣipraṃ pramuditā devī dātumevopacakrame.
32. anukūlam tu sā bhartuḥ jñātvā gamanam ātmanaḥ
kṣipram pramuditā devī dātum eva upacakrame
32. tu sā devī bhartuḥ gamanam ātmanaḥ anukūlam
jñātvā pramuditā kṣipram dātum eva upacakrame
32. But she, the delighted queen (devī), quickly began to give (gifts) upon realizing that her own departure was agreeable to her husband.
ततः प्रहृष्टा परिपूर्णमानसा यशस्विनी भर्तुरवेक्ष्य भाषितम् ।
धनानि रत्नानि च दातुमङ्गना प्रचक्रमे धर्मभृतां मनस्विनी ॥३३॥
33. tataḥ prahṛṣṭā paripūrṇamānasā yaśasvinī bharturavekṣya bhāṣitam ,
dhanāni ratnāni ca dātumaṅganā pracakrame dharmabhṛtāṃ manasvinī.

yaśasvinī bhartuḥ avekṣya bhāṣitam
dhanāni ratnāni ca dātum aṅganā
pracakrame dharmabhṛtām manasvinī
33. tataḥ yaśasvinī prahṛṣṭā
paripūrṇamānasā dharmabhṛtām manasvinī
aṅganā bhartuḥ bhāṣitam avekṣya
dhanāni ratnāni ca dātum pracakrame
33. Then, having observed her husband's words, that glorious and greatly delighted lady, whose mind was full of joy, the thoughtful upholder of natural law (dharma), began to give away wealth and jewels.
