प्रतिगृह्य ततो ऽस्त्राणि प्रहृष्टवदनः शुचिः ।
गच्छन्नेव च काकुत्स्थो विश्वामित्रमथाब्रवीत् ॥१॥
1. pratigṛhya tato'strāṇi prahṛṣṭavadanaḥ śuciḥ ,
gacchanneva ca kākutstho viśvāmitramathābravīt.

1. Then, the pure (śuciḥ) and joyful-faced (prahr̥ṣṭavadanaḥ) scion of Kakutstha (Kākutstha), having accepted the weapons, spoke to Viśvāmitra while he was still walking.
गृहीतास्त्रो ऽस्मि भगवन्दुराधर्षः सुरैरपि ।
अस्त्राणां त्वहमिच्छामि संहारं मुनिपुंगव ॥२॥
2. gṛhītāstro'smi bhagavandurādharṣaḥ surairapi ,
astrāṇāṃ tvahamicchāmi saṃhāraṃ munipuṃgava.
2. gṛhītāstraḥ asmi bhagavan durādharṣaḥ suraiḥ api
astrāṇām tu aham icchāmi saṃhāram munipuṅgava
2. bhagavan munipuṅgava gṛhītāstraḥ asmi suraiḥ api

2. O venerable one, I am armed, unconquerable even by the gods. But, O best of sages, I desire the withdrawal of these weapons.
एवं ब्रुवति काकुत्स्थे विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
संहारं व्याजहाराथ धृतिमान् सुव्रतः शुचिः ॥३॥
3. evaṃ bruvati kākutsthe viśvāmitro mahāmuniḥ ,
saṃhāraṃ vyājahārātha dhṛtimān suvrataḥ śuciḥ.

saṃhāram vyājahāra atha dhṛtimān suvrataḥ śuciḥ
3. kākutsthe evam bruvati atha dhṛtimān suvrataḥ

3. As Kakutstha spoke thus, the great sage Viśvāmitra, being steadfast, pure, and of excellent vows, then recited the method for the withdrawal of the weapons.
सत्यवन्तं सत्यकीर्तिं धृष्टं रभसमेव च ।
प्रतिहारतरं नाम पराङ्मुखमवाङ्मुखम् ॥४॥
4. satyavantaṃ satyakīrtiṃ dhṛṣṭaṃ rabhasameva ca ,
pratihārataraṃ nāma parāṅmukhamavāṅmukham.
4. satyavantam satyakīrtim dhṛṣṭam rabhasam eva
ca pratīhārataram nāma parāṅmukham avāṅmukham
4. satyavantam satyakīrtim dhṛṣṭam rabhasam eva

4. He (Viśvāmitra) then named Satyavanta, Satyākīrti, Dhṛṣṭa, Rabhasa, and also Pratiharatara, Parāṅmukha, and Avāṅmukha.
लक्षाक्षविषमौ चैव दृढनाभसुनाभकौ ।
दशाक्षशतवक्त्रौ च दशशीर्षशतोदरौ ॥५॥
5. lakṣākṣaviṣamau caiva dṛḍhanābhasunābhakau ,
daśākṣaśatavaktrau ca daśaśīrṣaśatodarau.

daśākṣaśatavaktrau ca daśaśīrṣaśatodarau

5. And also (he taught the names of) Lakṣākṣa, Viṣama, Dṛḍhanābha, Sunābhaka, Daśākṣa, Śatavaktra, Daśaśīrṣa, and Śatodara.
पद्मनाभमहानाभौ दुन्दुनाभसुनाभकौ ।
ज्योतिषं कृशनं चैव नैराश्य विमलाव् उभौ ॥६॥
6. padmanābhamahānābhau dundunābhasunābhakau ,
jyotiṣaṃ kṛśanaṃ caiva nairāśya vimalāv ubhau.

jyotiṣam kṛśanam ca eva nairāśyavimalau ubhau

6. I give you the arrows called Padmanābha, Mahānābha, Dundunābha, Sunābhaka, and also Jyotiṣa and Kṛśana, along with Nairāśya and Vimala, both of these.
यौगन्धरहरिद्रौ च दैत्यप्रमथनौ तथा ।
पित्र्यं सौमनसं चैव विधूतमकराव् उभौ ॥७॥
7. yaugandharaharidrau ca daityapramathanau tathā ,
pitryaṃ saumanasaṃ caiva vidhūtamakarāv ubhau.

7. Yaugandhara and Haridra, and Daityapramathana, also Pitrya and Saumanasa, and moreover Vidhūta and Makara, both of these.
करवीरकरं चैव धनधान्यौ च राघव ।
कामरूपं कामरुचिं मोहमावरणं तथा ॥८॥
8. karavīrakaraṃ caiva dhanadhānyau ca rāghava ,
kāmarūpaṃ kāmaruciṃ mohamāvaraṇaṃ tathā.
8. karavīrakaram ca eva dhanadhānyau ca rāghava
kāmarūpam kāmarucim mohamāvaraṇam tathā
8. rāghava karavīrakaram ca eva dhanadhānyau
ca kāmarūpam kāmarucim mohamāvaraṇam tathā
8. O Rāghava, I give you Karavīrakara, and also Dhana and Dhānya, along with Kāmarūpa, Kāmaruci, and Mohamāvaraṇa.
जृम्भकं सर्वनाभं च सन्तानवरणौ तथा ।
कृशाश्वतनयान् राम भास्वरान् कामरूपिणः ॥९॥
9. jṛmbhakaṃ sarvanābhaṃ ca santānavaraṇau tathā ,
kṛśāśvatanayān rāma bhāsvarān kāmarūpiṇaḥ.

kṛśāśvatanayān rāma bhāsvarān kāmarūpiṇaḥ
9. rāma jṛmbhakam sarvanābham ca santānavaraṇau
tathā kṛśāśvatanayān bhāsvarān kāmarūpiṇaḥ
9. O Rama, I give you Jṛmbhaka, and Sarvanābha, and also Santāna and Āvaraṇa; these are the shining sons of Kṛśāśva, who can assume any form at will.
प्रतीच्छ मम भद्रं ते पात्रभूतो ऽसि राघव ।
दिव्यभास्वरदेहाश्च मूर्तिमन्तः सुखप्रदाः ॥१०॥
10. pratīccha mama bhadraṃ te pātrabhūto'si rāghava ,
divyabhāsvaradehāśca mūrtimantaḥ sukhapradāḥ.
10. pratīccha mama bhadram te pātrabhūtaḥ asi rāghava
divyabhāsvaradehāḥ ca mūrtimantaḥ sukhapradāḥ
10. rāghava te mama bhadram pratīccha tvam pātrabhūtaḥ
asi ca divyabhāsvaradehāḥ mūrtimantaḥ sukhapradāḥ
10. O Rāghava, accept [this]; may good fortune be yours! You are a worthy recipient. And we are embodied beings with divine, radiant bodies, bestowers of happiness.
रामं प्राञ्जलयो भूत्वाब्रुवन्मधुरभाषिणः ।
इमे स्म नरशार्दूल शाधि किं करवाम ते ॥११॥
11. rāmaṃ prāñjalayo bhūtvābruvanmadhurabhāṣiṇaḥ ,
ime sma naraśārdūla śādhi kiṃ karavāma te.
11. rāmam prāñjalayaḥ bhūtvā abruvan madhurabhāṣiṇaḥ
ime sma naraśārdūla śādhi kim karavāma te
11. prāñjalayaḥ madhurabhāṣiṇaḥ bhūtvā rāmam abruvan
naraśārdūla ime sma te kim karavāma śādhi
11. Assuming postures of reverence with folded hands, those who spoke sweetly addressed Rāma: "O tiger among men, here we are! Command us, what may we do for you?"
गम्यतामिति तानाह यथेष्टं रघुनन्दनः ।
मानसाः कार्यकालेषु साहाय्यं मे करिष्यथ ॥१२॥
12. gamyatāmiti tānāha yatheṣṭaṃ raghunandanaḥ ,
mānasāḥ kāryakāleṣu sāhāyyaṃ me kariṣyatha.
12. gamyatām iti tān āha yathesṭam raghunandanaḥ
mānasāḥ kāryakāleṣu sāhāyyam me kariṣyatha
12. raghunandanaḥ tān āha iti yathesṭam gamyatām
(यूयम्) mānasāḥ kāryakāleṣu me sāhāyyam kariṣyatha
12. Raghunandana (Rāma) told them, "Go as you please!" [He added,] "O mental beings, you will provide me assistance in times of need."
अथ ते राममामन्त्र्य कृत्वा चापि प्रदक्षिणम् ।
एवमस्त्विति काकुत्स्थमुक्त्वा जग्मुर्यथागतम् ॥१३॥
13. atha te rāmamāmantrya kṛtvā cāpi pradakṣiṇam ,
evamastviti kākutsthamuktvā jagmuryathāgatam.
13. atha te rāmam āmantrya kṛtvā ca api pradakṣiṇam
evam astu iti kākutstham uktvā jagmuḥ yathāgatam
13. atha te rāmam āmantrya ca api pradakṣiṇam kṛtvā
kākutstham evam astu iti uktvā yathāgatam jagmuḥ
13. Then they, having addressed Rāma and also performed a respectful circumambulation, said to Kakutstha's descendant (Rāma), "So be it!" and departed the way they had arrived.
स च तान् राघवो ज्ञात्वा विश्वामित्रं महामुनिम् ।
गच्छन्नेवाथ मधुरं श्लक्ष्णं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥१४॥
14. sa ca tān rāghavo jñātvā viśvāmitraṃ mahāmunim ,
gacchannevātha madhuraṃ ślakṣṇaṃ vacanamabravīt.
14. sa ca tān rāghavaḥ jñātvā viśvāmitram mahāmunim |
gacchan eva atha madhuram ślakṣṇam vacanam abravīt
14. saḥ rāghavaḥ tān ca mahāmunim viśvāmitram jñātvā
atha gacchan eva madhuram ślakṣṇam vacanam abravīt
14. And Rama, descendant of Raghu, recognizing them and the great sage Viśvāmitra, then spoke sweet and gentle words as he was walking.
किं न्वेतन्मेघसंकाशं पर्वतस्याविदूरतः ।
वृक्षषण्डमितो भाति परं कौतूहलं हि मे ॥१५॥
15. kiṃ nvetanmeghasaṃkāśaṃ parvatasyāvidūrataḥ ,
vṛkṣaṣaṇḍamito bhāti paraṃ kautūhalaṃ hi me.
15. kim nu etat meghasaṃkāśam parvatasya avidūrataḥ
| vṛkṣaṣaṇḍam itaḥ bhāti param kautūhalam hi me
15. me parvatasya avidūrataḥ itaḥ meghasaṃkāśam etat vṛkṣaṣaṇḍam kim nu bhāti? hi me param kautūhalam (asti).
15. What is this cloud-like cluster of trees that appears from here, not far from the mountain? Indeed, I have great curiosity.
दर्शनीयं मृगाकीर्णं मनोहरमतीव च ।
नानाप्रकारैः शकुनैर्वल्गुभाषैरलंकृतम् ॥१६॥
16. darśanīyaṃ mṛgākīrṇaṃ manoharamatīva ca ,
nānāprakāraiḥ śakunairvalgubhāṣairalaṃkṛtam.
16. darśanīyam mṛgākīrṇam manoharam atīva ca |
nānāprakāraiḥ śakunaiḥ valgubhāṣaiḥ alaṅkṛtam
16. (etat) darśanīyam mṛgākīrṇam atīva ca manoharam nānāprakāraiḥ valgubhāṣaiḥ śakunaiḥ alaṅkṛtam (asti).
16. It is beautiful to behold, teeming with deer, and exceedingly charming, adorned with various kinds of sweet-voiced birds.
निःसृताः स्म मुनिश्रेष्ठ कान्ताराद् रोमहर्षणात् ।
अनया त्ववगच्छामि देशस्य सुखवत्तया ॥१७॥
17. niḥsṛtāḥ sma muniśreṣṭha kāntārād romaharṣaṇāt ,
anayā tvavagacchāmi deśasya sukhavattayā.
17. niḥsṛtāḥ sma muniśreṣṭha kāntārāt romaharṣaṇāt
| anayā tu avagacchāmi deśasya sukhavattayā
17. muniśreṣṭha,
(vayam) romaharṣaṇāt kāntārāt niḥsṛtāḥ sma tu anayā (dṛṣṭyā) deśasya sukhavattayā (hetoḥ) avagacchāmi
17. O best of sages, we have emerged from the dreadful forest (kāntāra). But by this (pleasant sight), I perceive the agreeable nature of this region.
सर्वं मे शंस भगवन् कस्याश्रमपदं त्विदम् ।
संप्राप्ता यत्र ते पापा ब्रह्मघ्ना दुष्टचारिणः ॥१८॥
18. sarvaṃ me śaṃsa bhagavan kasyāśramapadaṃ tvidam ,
saṃprāptā yatra te pāpā brahmaghnā duṣṭacāriṇaḥ.
18. sarvam me śaṃsa bhagavan kasya āśramapadam tu idam
| samprāptāḥ yatra te pāpāḥ brahmaghnāḥ duṣṭacāriṇaḥ
18. bhagavan me sarvam śaṃsa idam tu kasya āśramapadam
yatra te pāpāḥ brahmaghnāḥ duṣṭacāriṇaḥ samprāptāḥ
18. O revered one, tell me everything! Whose hermitage (āśrama) is this, where those sinful, Brahmin-killing, and wicked-minded ones have arrived?
