It was beautiful and auspicious, adorned with moon-lilies and sun-geese. It featured clusters of the Tiṣya and Śravaṇa constellations, and clouds that resembled mossy meadows.
पुनर्वसु महामीनं लोहिताङ्गमहाग्रहम् ।

It contained the Punarvasu constellation as a great fish, and Mars (Lohitāṅga) as a prominent celestial body. It had Airāvata (Indra's elephant) as a great island, and was agitated by the Svāti constellation acting as a swan.

It had waves born from masses of wind, and cool waters from moonbeams. It was filled with lotuses and water lilies awakened by serpents (bhujaṅga), yakṣas, and gandharvas.
ग्रसमान इवाकाशं ताराधिपमिवालिखन् ।
हरन्निव सनक्षत्रं गगनं सार्कमण्डलम् ॥४॥

4. grasamāna ivākāśaṃ tārādhipamivālikhan ,

It seemed to be devouring the sky, touching the moon (tārādhipa), and seizing the heavens along with their constellations and the solar orb.
मारुतस्यालयं श्रीमान् कपिर्व्योमचरो महान् ।
हनूमान्मेघजालानि विकर्षन्निव गच्छति ॥५॥

5. mārutasyālayaṃ śrīmān kapirvyomacaro mahān ,
hanūmānmeghajālāni vikarṣanniva gacchati.

The glorious, great monkey, the son of the wind (Māruta), Hanumān, moves as if scattering the masses of clouds.
पाण्डुरारुणवर्णानि नीलमाञ्जिष्ठकानि च ।
हरितारुणवर्णानि महाभ्राणि चकाशिरे ॥६॥

The great clouds shone brightly, appearing pale-reddish, blue-reddish, and greenish-reddish.
प्रविशन्नभ्रजालानि निष्क्रमंश्च पुनः पुनः ।
प्रच्छन्नश्च प्रकाशश्च चन्द्रमा इव लक्ष्यते ॥७॥

Entering the masses of clouds and then repeatedly emerging, he appears like the moon, at times concealed and at other times manifest.
नदन्नादेन महता मेघस्वनमहास्वनः ।
आजगाम महातेजाः पुनर्मध्येन सागरम् ॥८॥

8. nadannādena mahatā meghasvanamahāsvanaḥ ,

The exceedingly brilliant one, whose mighty roar was like the thunder of clouds, came again through the middle of the ocean, making a great sound.
पर्वतेन्द्रं सुनाभं च समुपस्पृश्य वीर्यवान् ।
ज्यामुक्त इव नाराचो महावेगो ऽभ्युपागतः ॥९॥

9. parvatendraṃ sunābhaṃ ca samupaspṛśya vīryavān ,

The powerful one, having thoroughly touched the great mountain Sunabha, arrived with great speed like an iron arrow released from a bowstring.
स किं चिदनुसंप्राप्तः समालोक्य महागिरिम् ।
महेन्द्रमेघसंकाशं ननाद हरिपुंगवः ॥१०॥

10. sa kiṃ cidanusaṃprāptaḥ samālokya mahāgirim ,

Having arrived somewhat near, when he saw the great mountain, which resembled a cloud of Mahendra, that foremost among monkeys (haripuṅgava) roared.
निशम्य नदतो नादं वानरास्ते समन्ततः ।
बभूवुरुत्सुकाः सर्वे सुहृद्दर्शनकाङ्क्षिणः ॥११॥

11. niśamya nadato nādaṃ vānarāste samantataḥ ,
babhūvurutsukāḥ sarve suhṛddarśanakāṅkṣiṇaḥ.

Having heard the roar of the roaring one, all those monkeys from all directions became eager, longing to see their friend.
जाम्बवान् स हरिश्रेष्ठः प्रीतिसंहृष्टमानसः ।
उपामन्त्र्य हरीन् सर्वानिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥१२॥

12. jāmbavān sa hariśreṣṭhaḥ prītisaṃhṛṣṭamānasaḥ ,

Jambavan, that foremost among monkeys, whose mind was greatly delighted with joy, addressed all the monkeys and spoke this word.
सर्वथा कृतकार्यो ऽसौ हनूमान्नात्र संशयः ।
न ह्यस्याकृतकार्यस्य नाद एवंविधो भवेत् ॥१३॥

13. sarvathā kṛtakāryo'sau hanūmānnātra saṃśayaḥ ,
na hyasyākṛtakāryasya nāda evaṃvidho bhavet.

Hanuman has certainly accomplished his objective; there is no doubt about this. For such a roar could not come from one who had failed.
तस्या बाहूरुवेगं च निनादं च महात्मनः ।
निशम्य हरयो हृष्टाः समुत्पेतुस्ततस्ततः ॥१४॥

Having heard the swift movement of his (Hanuman's) arms and thighs and the roar of the great-souled (mahātman) one, the joyful monkeys leapt up from various places.

प्रहृष्टाः समपद्यन्त हनूमन्तं दिदृक्षवः ॥१५॥

Delighted, they moved from one mountain peak to another, and from one summit to another, eager to see Hanuman.
