Come, O best of the Raghu dynasty! The king wishes to see you. Indeed, Lakshmana has already gone, and so has the highly renowned Bharata.

Having heard his command, which was (Lord) Rama's directive, Shatrughna bowed his head to the earth and then went to where Rama (rāghava) was.

Having heard that the princes had arrived, his senses agitated by worry, with a bowed head and a dejected mind, he spoke these words to the doorkeeper.

Having been commanded by the king, the princes, dressed in white, became humble and, with joined palms, entered composedly.

And they, having seen his face, which was like the moon afflicted by an eclipse, or like the sun at twilight, deprived of its radiance.

And they, having seen the tear-filled eyes of the wise Rāma, and his face, whose beauty was destroyed like a lotus.

Then, having quickly bowed at Rāma's feet with their heads, all of them stood composed, and Rāma shed tears.

And the mighty-armed (Rāma), having embraced them with his two arms and raised them up, said, 'Sit down on your seats,' and then spoke these words.
