1. Having indeed killed that demon Viradha, who possessed terrible strength, in the forest, the powerful Rama then embraced Sita, consoled her, and spoke to his brother Lakshmana, who was of blazing splendor.
कष्टं वनमिदं दुर्गं न च स्मो वनगोचराः ।
अभिगच्छामहे शीघ्रं शरभङ्गं तपोधनम् ॥२॥
2. kaṣṭaṃ vanamidaṃ durgaṃ na ca smo vanagocarāḥ ,
abhigacchāmahe śīghraṃ śarabhaṅgaṃ tapodhanam.

2. This forest is difficult and impassable, and we are not accustomed to dwelling in forests. Therefore, let us quickly approach Sarabhanga, the sage rich in asceticism (tapas).
आश्रमं शरभङ्गस्य
राघवो ऽभिजगाम ह ॥३॥

3. Rama, the descendant of Raghu, indeed approached the hermitage (āśrama) of Sarabhanga.
तस्य देवप्रभावस्य तपसा भावितात्मनः ।
समीपे शरभङ्गस्य ददर्श महदद्भुतम् ॥४॥
4. tasya devaprabhāvasya tapasā bhāvitātmanaḥ ,
samīpe śarabhaṅgasya dadarśa mahadadbhutam.

samīpe śarabhaṅgasya dadarśa mahat adbhutam

4. Near Sarabhanga, who possessed divine power and whose spirit (ātman) was purified through asceticism (tapas), Rama saw a great marvel.
विभ्राजमानं वपुषा सूर्यवैश्वानरोपमम् ।
असंस्पृशन्तं वसुधां ददर्श विबुधेश्वरम् ॥५॥
5. vibhrājamānaṃ vapuṣā sūryavaiśvānaropamam ,
asaṃspṛśantaṃ vasudhāṃ dadarśa vibudheśvaram.

5. He saw the lord of gods, who was shining brightly in his physical form, resembling the sun and Vaiśvānara (fire), and not touching the earth.
सुप्रभाभरणं देवं विरजो ऽम्बरधारिणम् ।
तद्विधैरेव बहुभिः पूज्यमानं महात्मभिः ॥६॥
6. suprabhābharaṇaṃ devaṃ virajo'mbaradhāriṇam ,
tadvidhaireva bahubhiḥ pūjyamānaṃ mahātmabhiḥ.
6. suprabhābharaṇam devam virajaḥ ambaradhāriṇam
tatvidhaiḥ eva bahubhiḥ pūjyamānam mahātmabhiḥ
6. (saḥ) devam suprabhābharaṇam virajaḥ ambaradhāriṇam
pūjyamānam bahubhiḥ eva tatvidhaiḥ mahātmabhiḥ (apaśyat)
6. He beheld the divine being, adorned with brilliant ornaments and wearing spotless garments, being worshipped by many great-souled (mahātman) individuals just like himself.
हरिभिर्वाजिभिर्युक्तमन्तरिक्षगतं रथम् ।
ददर्शादूरतस्तस्य तरुणादित्यसंनिभम् ॥७॥
7. haribhirvājibhiryuktamantarikṣagataṃ ratham ,
dadarśādūratastasya taruṇādityasaṃnibham.
7. haribhiḥ vājibhiḥ yuktam antarikṣagatam ratham
dadarśa adūrataḥ tasya taruṇādityasaṃnibham
7. (saḥ) adūrataḥ tasya dadarśa ratham haribhiḥ

7. He saw, not far from him, a chariot, equipped with tawny horses and moving through the sky, resembling the rising sun.
पाण्डुराभ्रघनप्रख्यं चन्द्रमण्डलसंनिभम् ।
अपश्यद्विमलं छत्रं चित्रमाल्योपशोभितम् ॥८॥
8. pāṇḍurābhraghanaprakhyaṃ candramaṇḍalasaṃnibham ,
apaśyadvimalaṃ chatraṃ citramālyopaśobhitam.
8. pāṇḍurābhraghanaprakhyam candramaṇḍalasaṃnibham
apaśyat vimalam chatram citramālyopaśobhitam
8. (saḥ) apaśyat vimalam chatram pāṇḍurābhraghanaprakhyam
candramaṇḍalasaṃnibham citramālyopaśobhitam
8. He beheld a spotless umbrella (chattra), appearing like a mass of white clouds, resembling the moon's disk, and adorned with various garlands.
चामरव्यजने चाग्र्ये रुक्मदण्डे महाधने ।
गृहीते वननारीभ्यां धूयमाने च मूर्धनि ॥९॥
9. cāmaravyajane cāgrye rukmadaṇḍe mahādhane ,
gṛhīte vananārībhyāṃ dhūyamāne ca mūrdhani.
9. cāmaravyajane ca agrye rukmadaṇḍe mahādhane
gṛhīte vananārībhyām dhūyamāne ca mūrdhani
9. ca dve agrye cāmaravyajane rukmadaṇḍe mahādhane
vananārībhyām gṛhīte ca mūrdhani dhūyamāne (āsan)
9. And two excellent fly-whisks (cāmara), with golden handles and highly valuable, were held by two forest-women and waved over the head.
गन्धर्वामरसिद्धाश्च बहवः परमर्षयः ।
अन्तरिक्षगतं देवं वाग्भिरग्र्याभिरीडिरे ॥१०॥
10. gandharvāmarasiddhāśca bahavaḥ paramarṣayaḥ ,
antarikṣagataṃ devaṃ vāgbhiragryābhirīḍire.
10. gandharvāmarasiddhāḥ ca bahavaḥ paramarṣayaḥ
antarikṣagatam devam vāgbhiḥ agryābhiḥ īḍire
10. bahavaḥ gandharvāmarasiddhāḥ ca paramarṣayaḥ
antarikṣagatam devam agryābhiḥ vāgbhiḥ īḍire
10. Many Gandharvas, gods, Siddhas, and great sages praised the deity, who was situated in the sky, with excellent words.
दृष्ट्वा शतक्रतुं तत्र रामो लक्ष्मणमब्रवीत् ।
ये हयाः पुरुहूतस्य पुरा शक्रस्य नः श्रुताः ।
अन्तरिक्षगता दिव्यास्त इमे हरयो ध्रुवम् ॥११॥
11. dṛṣṭvā śatakratuṃ tatra rāmo lakṣmaṇamabravīt ,
ye hayāḥ puruhūtasya purā śakrasya naḥ śrutāḥ ,
antarikṣagatā divyāsta ime harayo dhruvam.
11. dṛṣṭvā śatakratum tatra rāmaḥ
lakṣmaṇam abravīt ye hayāḥ puruhūtasya
purā śakrasya naḥ śrutāḥ antarikṣagatāḥ

śatakratum dṛṣṭvā ye puruhūtasya śakrasya
hayāḥ purā naḥ śrutāḥ te
antarikṣagatāḥ divyāḥ harayaḥ ime dhruvam
11. Having seen Indra (Śatakratu) there, Rama said to Lakshmana: "Those divine horses, moving in the sky, are certainly these horses of Indra (Puruhūta, Śakra) that we heard about long ago."
इमे च पुरुषव्याघ्र ये तिष्ठन्त्यभितो रथम् ।
शतं शतं कुण्डलिनो युवानः खड्गपाणयः ॥१२॥
12. ime ca puruṣavyāghra ye tiṣṭhantyabhito ratham ,
śataṃ śataṃ kuṇḍalino yuvānaḥ khaḍgapāṇayaḥ.
12. ime ca puruṣavyāghra ye tiṣṭhanti abhitaḥ ratham
śatam śatam kuṇḍalinaḥ yuvānaḥ khaḍgapāṇayaḥ
12. ca puruṣavyāghra ime ye kuṇḍalinaḥ yuvānaḥ
khaḍgapāṇayaḥ śatam śatam ratham abhitaḥ tiṣṭhanti
12. And, O tiger among men, these young men stand around the chariot in groups of hundreds; they wear earrings and hold swords in their hands.
उरोदेशेषु सर्वेषां हारा ज्वलनसंनिभाः ।
रूपं बिभ्रति सौमित्रे पञ्चविंशतिवार्षिकम् ॥१३॥
13. urodeśeṣu sarveṣāṃ hārā jvalanasaṃnibhāḥ ,
rūpaṃ bibhrati saumitre pañcaviṃśativārṣikam.
13. urodeśeṣu sarveṣām hārāḥ jvalanasannibhāḥ
rūpam bibhrati saumitre pañcaviṃśativārṣikam
13. saumitre sarveṣām urodeśeṣu jvalanasannibhāḥ
hārāḥ pañcaviṃśativārṣikam rūpam bibhrati
13. On the chests of all of them are necklaces that resemble blazing fire, and they bear the appearance of twenty-five-year-olds, O son of Sumitra (Lakshmana).
एतद्धि किल देवानां वयो भवति नित्यदा ।
यथेमे पुरुषव्याघ्रा दृश्यन्ते प्रियदर्शनाः ॥१४॥
14. etaddhi kila devānāṃ vayo bhavati nityadā ,
yatheme puruṣavyāghrā dṛśyante priyadarśanāḥ.
14. etat hi kila devānām vayaḥ bhavati nityadā
yathā ime puruṣavyāghrāḥ dṛśyante priyadarśanāḥ
14. hi kila etat devānām vayaḥ nityadā bhavati
yathā ime puruṣavyāghrāḥ priyadarśanāḥ dṛśyante
14. Indeed, it is said that this is perpetually the youthful age of the gods, just as these finest among men appear handsome.
इहैव सह वैदेह्या मुहूर्तं तिष्ठ लक्ष्मण ।
यावज्जनाम्यहं व्यक्तं क एष द्युतिमान् रथे ॥१५॥
15. ihaiva saha vaidehyā muhūrtaṃ tiṣṭha lakṣmaṇa ,
yāvajjanāmyahaṃ vyaktaṃ ka eṣa dyutimān rathe.
15. iha eva saha vaidehyā muhūrtam tiṣṭha lakṣmaṇa
yāvat janāmi aham vyaktam kaḥ eṣaḥ dyutimān rathe
15. lakṣmaṇa iha eva saha vaidehyā muhūrtam tiṣṭha
yāvat aham vyaktam janāmi kaḥ eṣaḥ dyutimān rathe
15. Lakṣmaṇa, stay right here with Vaidehī for a moment, until I clearly ascertain who this radiant person in the chariot is.
तमेवमुक्त्वा सौमित्रिमिहैव स्थीयतामिति ।
अभिचक्राम काकुत्स्थः शरभङ्गाश्रमं प्रति ॥१६॥
16. tamevamuktvā saumitrimihaiva sthīyatāmiti ,
abhicakrāma kākutsthaḥ śarabhaṅgāśramaṃ prati.
16. tam evam uktvā saumitrim iha eva sthīyatām iti
abhicakrāma kākutsthaḥ śarabhaṅgāśramam prati
16. kākutsthaḥ tam saumitrim 'iha eva sthīyatām' iti
evam uktvā śarabhaṅgāśramam prati abhicakrāma
16. Having thus spoken to Lakṣmaṇa (Saumitri), instructing him to 'stay right here,' Rāma (Kākutstha) proceeded towards Śarabhaṅga's hermitage.
ततः समभिगच्छन्तं प्रेक्ष्य रामं शचीपतिः ।
शरभङ्गमनुज्ञाप्य विबुधानिदमब्रवीत् ॥१७॥
17. tataḥ samabhigacchantaṃ prekṣya rāmaṃ śacīpatiḥ ,
śarabhaṅgamanujñāpya vibudhānidamabravīt.
17. tataḥ samabhigacchantam prekṣya rāmam śacīpatiḥ
śarabhaṅgam anujñāpya vibudhān idam abravīt
17. tataḥ śacīpatiḥ rāmam samabhigacchantam prekṣya
śarabhaṅgam anujñāpya idam vibudhān abravīt
17. Then, after observing Rāma approaching, Indra (Śacīpati) bade farewell to Śarabhaṅga and spoke the following to the gods.
इहोपयात्यसौ रामो यावन्मां नाभिभाषते ।
निष्ठां नयत तावत्तु ततो मां द्रष्टुमर्हति ॥१८॥
18. ihopayātyasau rāmo yāvanmāṃ nābhibhāṣate ,
niṣṭhāṃ nayata tāvattu tato māṃ draṣṭumarhati.
18. iha upayāti asau rāmaḥ yāvat mām na abhibhāṣate
niṣṭhām nayata tāvat tu tataḥ mām draṣṭum arhati
18. asau rāmaḥ iha yāvat mām na abhibhāṣate tāvat
niṣṭhām nayata tu tataḥ mām draṣṭum arhati
18. Until this Rāma approaches here and addresses me, you all should bring this to a conclusion. Only after that will he be worthy of seeing me.
जितवन्तं कृतार्थं च द्रष्टाहमचिरादिमम् ।
कर्म ह्यनेन कर्तव्यं महदन्यैः सुदुष्करम् ॥१९॥
19. jitavantaṃ kṛtārthaṃ ca draṣṭāhamacirādimam ,
karma hyanena kartavyaṃ mahadanyaiḥ suduṣkaram.
19. jitavantam kṛtārtham ca draṣṭā aham acirāt imam
karma hi anena kartavyam mahat anyaiḥ sudurṣkaram
19. aham acirāt imam jitavantam ca kṛtārtham draṣṭā.
hi anena mahat sudurṣkaram anyaiḥ karma kartavyam
19. Indeed, I shall soon see this one, who is victorious and has achieved his purpose. A great deed, very difficult for others to perform, must be accomplished by him.
इति वज्री तमामन्त्र्य मानयित्वा च तापसं ।
रथेन हरियुक्तेन ययौ दिवमरिंदमः ॥२०॥
20. iti vajrī tamāmantrya mānayitvā ca tāpasaṃ ,
rathena hariyuktena yayau divamariṃdamaḥ.
20. iti vajrī tam āmantrya mānayitvā ca tāpasam
rathena hariyuktena yayau divam ariṃdamaḥ
20. iti vajrī ariṃdamaḥ tam tāpasam āmantrya ca
mānayitvā hariyuktena rathena divam yayau
20. Thus, the wielder of the thunderbolt (Indra), the subduer of enemies, having addressed and honored that ascetic, went to heaven in a chariot drawn by horses.
प्रयाते तु सहस्राक्षे राघवः सपरिच्छदः ।
अग्निहोत्रमुपासीनं शरभङ्गमुपागमत् ॥२१॥
21. prayāte tu sahasrākṣe rāghavaḥ saparicchadaḥ ,
agnihotramupāsīnaṃ śarabhaṅgamupāgamat.
21. prayāte tu sahasrākṣe rāghavaḥ saparicchadaḥ
agnihotram upāsīnam śarabhaṅgam upāgamat
21. tu sahasrākṣe prayāte rāghavaḥ saparicchadaḥ

21. But after the thousand-eyed (Indra) had departed, Rāma, accompanied by his retinue, approached Sharabhaṅga, who was seated performing the fire sacrifice (agnihotra).
तस्य पादौ च संगृह्य रामः सीता च लक्ष्मणः ।
निषेदुस्तदनुज्ञाता लब्धवासा निमन्त्रिताः ॥२२॥
22. tasya pādau ca saṃgṛhya rāmaḥ sītā ca lakṣmaṇaḥ ,
niṣedustadanujñātā labdhavāsā nimantritāḥ.
22. tasya pādau ca saṃgṛhya rāmaḥ sītā ca lakṣmaṇaḥ
niṣeduḥ tat anujñātāḥ labdhavāsāḥ nimantritāḥ
22. rāmaḥ sītā ca lakṣmaṇaḥ tasya pādau saṃgṛhya
tat anujñātāḥ labdhavāsāḥ nimantritāḥ ca niṣeduḥ
22. Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana, having clasped his feet, and being invited and granted a dwelling by him, sat down.
ततः शक्रोपयानं तु पर्यपृच्छत् स राघवः ।
शरभङ्गश्च तत् सर्वं राघवाय न्यवेदयत् ॥२३॥
23. tataḥ śakropayānaṃ tu paryapṛcchat sa rāghavaḥ ,
śarabhaṅgaśca tat sarvaṃ rāghavāya nyavedayat.
23. tataḥ śakra upayānaṃ tu paryapṛcchat saḥ rāghavaḥ
śarabhaṅgaḥ ca tat sarvaṃ rāghavāya nyavedayat
23. tataḥ saḥ rāghavaḥ tu śakra upayānaṃ paryapṛcchat
ca śarabhaṅgaḥ tat sarvaṃ rāghavāya nyavedayat
23. Then, Rama (rāghava) inquired about the journey to Indra's realm. And Sharabhanga related all that to Rama (rāghava).
मामेष वरदो राम ब्रह्मलोकं निनीषति ।
जितमुग्रेण तपसा दुष्प्रापमकृतात्मभिः ॥२४॥
24. māmeṣa varado rāma brahmalokaṃ ninīṣati ,
jitamugreṇa tapasā duṣprāpamakṛtātmabhiḥ.
24. mām eṣaḥ varadaḥ rāma brahmalokaṃ ninīṣati
jitam ugreṇa tapasā duṣprāpam akṛtātmabhiḥ
24. rāma,
eṣaḥ varadaḥ mām brahmalokaṃ ninīṣati.
(etat) ugreṇa tapasā jitam (asti),
akṛtātmabhiḥ duṣprāpam (ca asti).
24. O Rama, this boon-granting deity wishes to lead me to the world of Brahma (brahman), which has been attained through severe asceticism (tapas) and is difficult for those whose inner selves (ātman) are unperfected to reach.
अहं ज्ञात्वा नरव्याघ्र वर्तमानमदूरतः ।
ब्रह्मलोकं न गच्छामि त्वामदृष्ट्वा प्रियातिथिम् ॥२५॥
25. ahaṃ jñātvā naravyāghra vartamānamadūrataḥ ,
brahmalokaṃ na gacchāmi tvāmadṛṣṭvā priyātithim.
25. ahaṃ jñātvā naravyāghra vartamānam adūrataḥ
brahmalokaṃ na gacchāmi tvām adṛṣṭvā priyātithim
25. naravyāghra,
ahaṃ adūrataḥ vartamānam tvām priyātithim adṛṣṭvā brahmalokaṃ na gacchāmi (iti) jñātvā.
25. O tiger among men, knowing that you are nearby, I am not going to the world of Brahma (brahman) without seeing you, my beloved guest.
समागम्य गमिष्यामि त्रिदिवं देवसेवितम् ।
अक्षया नरशार्दूल जिता लोका मया शुभाः ।
ब्राह्म्याश्च नाकपृष्ठ्याश्च प्रतिगृह्णीष्व मामकान् ॥२६॥
26. samāgamya gamiṣyāmi tridivaṃ devasevitam ,
akṣayā naraśārdūla jitā lokā mayā śubhāḥ ,
brāhmyāśca nākapṛṣṭhyāśca pratigṛhṇīṣva māmakān.
26. samāgamya gamiṣyāmi tridivam
devasevitam akṣayāḥ naraśārdūla jitāḥ
lokāḥ mayā śubhāḥ brāhmyāḥ ca
nākapṛṣṭhyāḥ ca pratigṛhṇīṣva māmakan

śubhāḥ lokāḥ jitāḥ ca brāhmyāḥ ca
nākapṛṣṭhyāḥ māmakan pratigṛhṇīṣva
26. Having met (you), I shall proceed to the heaven (Tridiva) attended by the gods. O tiger among men, imperishable and auspicious worlds have been conquered by me. Please accept these worlds of mine, both those related to Brahma and those in the celestial realms.
एवमुक्तो नरव्याघ्रः सर्वशास्त्रविशारदः ।
ऋषिणा शरभङ्गेन राघवो वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥२७॥
27. evamukto naravyāghraḥ sarvaśāstraviśāradaḥ ,
ṛṣiṇā śarabhaṅgena rāghavo vākyamabravīt.
27. evam uktaḥ naravyāghraḥ sarvaśāstraviśāradaḥ
ṛṣiṇā śarabhaṅgena rāghavaḥ vākyam abravīt
27. śarabhaṅgena ṛṣiṇā evam uktaḥ sarvaśāstraviśāradaḥ
naravyāghraḥ rāghavaḥ vākyam abravīt
27. Thus addressed by the sage Sharabhanga, Rama, the tiger among men and master of all scriptures, spoke these words.
अहमेवाहरिष्यामि सर्वांल् लोकान्महामुने ।
आवासं त्वहमिच्छामि प्रदिष्टमिह कानने ॥२८॥
28. ahamevāhariṣyāmi sarvāṃl lokānmahāmune ,
āvāsaṃ tvahamicchāmi pradiṣṭamiha kānane.
28. aham eva āhariṣyāmi sarvān lokān mahāmune
āvāsam tu aham icchāmi pradiṣṭam iha kānane
28. mahāmune aham eva sarvān lokān āhariṣyāmi
tu aham iha kānane pradiṣṭam āvāsam icchāmi
28. O great sage, I myself will obtain all (these) worlds. However, I desire a dwelling place indicated (for me) here in this forest.
राघवेणैवमुक्तस्तु शक्रतुल्यबलेन वै ।
शरभङ्गो महाप्राज्ञः पुनरेवाब्रवीद्वचः ॥२९॥
29. rāghaveṇaivamuktastu śakratulyabalena vai ,
śarabhaṅgo mahāprājñaḥ punarevābravīdvacaḥ.
29. rāghaveṇa evam uktaḥ tu śakratulyabalena vai
śarabhaṅgaḥ mahāprājñaḥ punar eva abravīt vacaḥ
29. śakratulyabalena rāghaveṇa evam uktaḥ tu
mahāprājñaḥ śarabhaṅgaḥ punar eva vacaḥ abravīt
29. But the greatly wise Sharabhanga, thus addressed by Rama, whose strength was indeed equal to Indra, again spoke these words.
सुतीक्ष्णमभिगच्छ त्वं शुचौ देशे तपस्विनम् ।
रमणीये वनोद्देशे स ते वासं विधास्यति ॥३०॥
30. sutīkṣṇamabhigaccha tvaṃ śucau deśe tapasvinam ,
ramaṇīye vanoddeśe sa te vāsaṃ vidhāsyati.

ramaṇīye vanoddeśe saḥ te vāsam vidhāsyati
30. tvam sutīkṣṇam tapasvinam śucau deśe ramaṇīye
vanoddeśe abhigaccha saḥ te vāsam vidhāsyati
30. You should go to Sutīkṣṇa, the ascetic, in a pure region, in a beautiful forest area. He will arrange a dwelling for you there.
एष पन्था नरव्याघ्र मुहूर्तं पश्य तात माम् ।
यावज्जहामि गात्राणि जीर्णं त्वचमिवोरगः ॥३१॥
31. eṣa panthā naravyāghra muhūrtaṃ paśya tāta mām ,
yāvajjahāmi gātrāṇi jīrṇaṃ tvacamivoragaḥ.
31. eṣaḥ panthāḥ naravyāghra muhūrtam paśya tāta mām
yāvat jahāmi gātrāṇi jīrṇām tvacam iva uragaḥ
31. naravyāghra tāta eṣaḥ panthāḥ yāvat uragaḥ jīrṇām
tvacam iva gātrāṇi jahāmi mām muhūrtam paśya
31. This is the path, O tiger among men (naravyāghra). My son, look at me for a moment, while I cast off my body, just as a snake sheds its worn-out skin.
ततो ऽग्निं स समाधाय हुत्वा चाज्येन मन्त्रवित् ।
शरभङ्गो महातेजाः प्रविवेश हुताशनम् ॥३२॥
32. tato'gniṃ sa samādhāya hutvā cājyena mantravit ,
śarabhaṅgo mahātejāḥ praviveśa hutāśanam.
32. tataḥ agnim saḥ samādhāya hutvā ca ājyena
mantravit śarabhaṅgaḥ mahātejāḥ praviveśa hutāśanam
32. tataḥ mantravit mahātejāḥ saḥ śarabhaṅgaḥ agnim
samādhāya ājyena ca hutvā hutāśanam praviveśa
32. Then, that expert in mantras (mantravit), Śarabhaṅga, who was greatly radiant (mahātejāḥ), kindled the fire, offered oblations with ghee, and entered the sacrificial fire (hutāśanam).
तस्य रोमाणि केशांश्च ददाहाग्निर्महात्मनः ।
जीर्णं त्वचं तथास्थीनि यच्च मांसं च शोणितम् ॥३३॥
33. tasya romāṇi keśāṃśca dadāhāgnirmahātmanaḥ ,
jīrṇaṃ tvacaṃ tathāsthīni yacca māṃsaṃ ca śoṇitam.
33. tasya romāṇi keśān ca dadāha agniḥ mahātmanaḥ jīrṇām
tvacam tathā asthīni yat ca māṃsam ca śoṇitam
33. agniḥ mahātmanaḥ tasya romāṇi keśān ca jīrṇām tvacam
tathā asthīni yat ca māṃsam ca śoṇitam ca dadāha
33. The fire consumed the hair on his body, his head hair, his worn-out skin, and also his bones, flesh, and blood – everything of that great soul (mahātman).
स च पावकसंकाशः कुमारः समपद्यत ।
उत्थायाग्निचयात्तस्माच्छरभङ्गो व्यरोचत ॥३४॥
34. sa ca pāvakasaṃkāśaḥ kumāraḥ samapadyata ,
utthāyāgnicayāttasmāccharabhaṅgo vyarocata.
34. sa ca pāvakasaṃkāśaḥ kumāraḥ samapadyata
utthāya agnicayāt tasmāt śarabhaṅgaḥ vyarocata
34. sa ca pāvakasaṃkāśaḥ kumāraḥ samapadyata
tasmāt agnicayāt utthāya śarabhaṅgaḥ vyarocata
34. And that boy, radiant like fire, was born. Rising from that accumulated fire (agnicaya), Śarabhaṅga shone forth brilliantly.
स लोकानाहिताग्नीनामृषीणां च महात्मनाम् ।
देवानां च व्यतिक्रम्य ब्रह्मलोकं व्यरोहत ॥३५॥
35. sa lokānāhitāgnīnāmṛṣīṇāṃ ca mahātmanām ,
devānāṃ ca vyatikramya brahmalokaṃ vyarohata.
35. sa lokān āhitāgnīnām ṛṣīṇām ca mahātmanām
devānām ca vyatikramya brahmalokam vyarohata
35. sa vyatikramya āhitāgnīnām ṛṣīṇām ca mahātmanām
devānām ca lokān brahmalokam vyarohata
35. He, having bypassed the realms of those who maintain the sacred fires (āhitāgni), and of the great-souled sages, as well as of the gods, ascended to the world of Brahmā (brahmaloka).
स पुण्यकर्मा भुवने द्विजर्षभः पितामहं सानुचरं ददर्श ह ।
पितामहश्चापि समीक्ष्य तं द्विजं ननन्द सुस्वागतमित्युवाच ह ॥३६॥
36. sa puṇyakarmā bhuvane dvijarṣabhaḥ pitāmahaṃ sānucaraṃ dadarśa ha ,
pitāmahaścāpi samīkṣya taṃ dvijaṃ nananda susvāgatamityuvāca ha.
36. sa puṇyakarmā bhuvane dvijarṣabhaḥ
pitāmaham sānucaram dadarśa ha
pitāmahaḥ ca api samīkṣya tam dvijam
nananda susvāgatam iti uvāca ha
36. sa puṇyakarmā dvijarṣabhaḥ bhuvane
sānucaram pitāmaham dadarśa ha
ca api pitāmahaḥ tam dvijam samīkṣya
nananda iti susvāgatam uvāca ha
36. That best among the twice-born (dvijarṣabha), whose actions were virtuous, beheld the Grandfather (Brahmā) accompanied by his attendants in that realm. And the Grandfather, seeing that twice-born (dvija), rejoiced and said, 'Welcome!'
