एतच्छ्रुत्वा वसिष्ठस्य वचः संसदि पार्थिवाः ।
सिक्ता इवामृतापूरैरन्तःशीतलतां ययुः ॥ १ ॥

etacchrutvā vasiṣṭhasya vacaḥ saṃsadi pārthivāḥ ,
siktā ivāmṛtāpūrairantaḥśītalatāṃ yayuḥ 1

vacaḥ śrutvā amṛtāpūraiḥ siktāḥ iva antaḥśītalatām yayuḥ
1. Śrī Vālmīki spoke: Upon hearing these words of Vasiṣṭha, the kings present in the assembly experienced a profound inner coolness, as if they had been sprinkled by floods of nectar.
रामः कमलपत्राक्षो रराज वदनेन्दुना ।
क्षीरोद इव संपूर्णः सुधापूरेण चारुणा ॥ २ ॥
rāmaḥ kamalapatrākṣo rarāja vadanendunā ,
kṣīroda iva saṃpūrṇaḥ sudhāpūreṇa cāruṇā 2
2. rāmaḥ kamalapatrākṣaḥ rarāja vadanendunā
kṣīrodaḥ iva saṃpūrṇaḥ sudhāpūreṇa cāruṇā
2. kamalapatrākṣaḥ rāmaḥ vadanendunā rarāja
saṃpūrṇaḥ cāruṇā sudhāpūreṇa kṣīrodaḥ iva
2. Rāma, whose eyes resembled lotus petals, shone brightly with his moon-like face, just as the ocean of milk appears full and beautiful with its abundance of nectar.
वामदेवादयः सर्वे तत्त्वज्ञानविशारदाः ।
अहो भगवता ज्ञानमुक्तमित्यूचुरादरात् ॥ ३ ॥
vāmadevādayaḥ sarve tattvajñānaviśāradāḥ ,
aho bhagavatā jñānamuktamityūcurādarāt 3
3. vāmadevādayaḥ sarve tattvajñānaviśāradāḥ
aho bhagavatā jñānam uktam iti ūcuḥ ādarāt
3. vāmadevādayaḥ sarve tattvajñānaviśāradāḥ
aho bhagavatā jñānam uktam iti ādarāt ūcuḥ
3. Vāmadeva and all the other sages, who were experts in the knowledge (jñāna) of truth, respectfully exclaimed, "Oh! What profound knowledge (jñāna) has been expounded by the venerable one (bhagavat)!"
शान्तान्तःकरणो राजा मुदा दशरथो बभौ ।
तुष्ट्यैव संप्रहृष्टाङ्गो नवां द्युतिमुपागतः ॥ ४ ॥
śāntāntaḥkaraṇo rājā mudā daśaratho babhau ,
tuṣṭyaiva saṃprahṛṣṭāṅgo navāṃ dyutimupāgataḥ 4
4. śāntāntaḥkaraṇaḥ rājā mudā daśarathaḥ babhau
tuṣṭyā eva samprahṛṣṭāṅgaḥ navām dyutim upāgataḥ
4. śāntāntaḥkaraṇaḥ samprahṛṣṭāṅgaḥ rājā daśarathaḥ
mudā babhau tuṣṭyā eva navām dyutim upāgataḥ
4. King Daśaratha, with his inner being tranquil, shone with joy. His limbs were thrilled, and through sheer contentment, he attained a new, radiant glow.
ज्ञातज्ञेयेषु बहुषु साधुवादकथास्वथ ।
उवाच गलिताज्ञानो रामो वाक्यमिदं पुनः ॥ ५ ॥
jñātajñeyeṣu bahuṣu sādhuvādakathāsvatha ,
uvāca galitājñāno rāmo vākyamidaṃ punaḥ 5
5. jñātajñeyeṣu bahuṣu sādhuvādakathāsu atha
uvāca galitājñānaḥ rāmaḥ vākyam idam punaḥ
5. atha galitājñānaḥ rāmaḥ jñātajñeyeṣu bahuṣu
sādhuvādakathāsu idam vākyam punaḥ uvāca
5. Then, amidst many who had understood what was to be understood and during discourses of praise, Rama, whose ignorance had completely vanished, spoke this statement again.
अभूम वयमात्मीयकायमात्रदृशः पुरा ।
प्रभो संप्रति संपन्ना विष्वग्विश्वावलोकिनः ॥ ७ ॥
abhūma vayamātmīyakāyamātradṛśaḥ purā ,
prabho saṃprati saṃpannā viṣvagviśvāvalokinaḥ 7
7. abhūma vayam ātmīyakāyamātradṛśaḥ purā prabho
samprati sampannāḥ viṣvagviśvāvalokinaḥ
7. prabho purā vayam ātmīyakāyamātradṛśaḥ abhūma
samprati viṣvagviśvāvalokinaḥ sampannāḥ
7. O Lord, previously we were those whose vision was limited to merely our own bodies. Now, however, we have become those who perceive the entire universe (viśva) everywhere.
स्थितोऽस्मि सर्वसंपूर्णः संपन्नोऽस्मि निरामयः ।
जातोऽस्मि विगताशङ्को बुधो जागर्मि संप्रति ॥ ८ ॥
sthito'smi sarvasaṃpūrṇaḥ saṃpanno'smi nirāmayaḥ ,
jāto'smi vigatāśaṅko budho jāgarmi saṃprati 8
8. sthitaḥ asmi sarvasaṃpūrṇaḥ sampannaḥ asmi nirāmayaḥ
jātaḥ asmi vigatāśaṅkaḥ budhaḥ jāgarmi samprati
8. [aham] samprati sarvasaṃpūrṇaḥ sthitaḥ asmi nirāmayaḥ
sampannaḥ asmi vigatāśaṅkaḥ budhaḥ jātaḥ asmi jāgarmi
8. I am established, entirely complete. I am accomplished and free from all affliction. I have become free from doubt, a truly wise person, and I am now fully awake.
आनन्दितोऽस्म्यखेदाय सुखितोस्मि चिराय च ।
स्थितोऽनस्तमयायैव शाश्वतार्थोदयो मम ॥ ९ ॥
ānandito'smyakhedāya sukhitosmi cirāya ca ,
sthito'nastamayāyaiva śāśvatārthodayo mama 9
9. ānanditaḥ asmi akhedāya sukhitaḥ asmi cirāya ca
sthitaḥ anastamayāya eva śāśvatārthodayaḥ mama
9. [aham] akhedāya ānanditaḥ asmi ca cirāya sukhitaḥ
asmi mama śāśvatārthodayaḥ anastamayāya eva sthitaḥ
9. I am delighted, free from all sorrow, and I am eternally happy. I am established unchangingly for eternity itself; my permanent purpose (artha) has truly arisen.
अहो बत पवित्रेण शीतेन ज्ञानवारिणा ।
त्वया सिक्तोस्मि हृष्यामि पद्मवद्धृदये स्वयम् ॥ १० ॥
aho bata pavitreṇa śītena jñānavāriṇā ,
tvayā siktosmi hṛṣyāmi padmavaddhṛdaye svayam 10
10. aho bata pavitreṇa śītena jñānavāriṇā tvayā
siktaḥ asmi hṛṣyāmi padmavat hṛdaye svayam
10. aho bata tvayā pavitreṇa śītena jñānavāriṇā siktaḥ asmi,
svayam hṛdaye padmavat hṛṣyāmi.
10. Oh, indeed! Sprinkled by you with the pure, cool water of knowledge, I rejoice spontaneously in my heart, just like a lotus.
इयमद्य मया लब्धा पदवी त्वत्प्रसादतः ।
यस्यां स्थितस्य मे सर्वममृतत्वं गतं जगत् ॥ ११ ॥
iyamadya mayā labdhā padavī tvatprasādataḥ ,
yasyāṃ sthitasya me sarvamamṛtatvaṃ gataṃ jagat 11
11. iyam adya mayā labdhā padavī tvat-prasādataḥ
yasyām sthitasya me sarvam amṛtatvam gatam jagat
11. adya iyam padavī mayā tvat-prasādataḥ labdhā.
yasyām sthitasya me sarvam jagat amṛtatvam gatam.
11. Today, by your grace, I have attained this state (padavī), in which, for me who is established, the entire world (jagat) has achieved immortality (amṛtatvam).
अन्तःप्रसन्नमतिरस्तसमस्तशोकः शोभां गतोऽहममलाशय एव शान्त्या ।
आनन्दमात्मनि गतः स्वयमात्मनैव नैर्मल्यमभ्युपगतोऽस्मि नमोस्तु मह्यम् ॥ १२ ॥
antaḥprasannamatirastasamastaśokaḥ śobhāṃ gato'hamamalāśaya eva śāntyā ,
ānandamātmani gataḥ svayamātmanaiva nairmalyamabhyupagato'smi namostu mahyam 12
12. antaḥ-prasanna-matiḥ asta-samasta-śokaḥ
śobhām gataḥ aham amala-āśayaḥ eva śāntyā
ānandam ātmani gataḥ svayam ātmanā eva
nairmalyam abhyupagataḥ asmi namaḥ astu mahyam
12. ahaṃ antaḥ-prasanna-matiḥ,
asta-samasta-śokaḥ,
amala-āśayaḥ eva śāntyā śobhām gataḥ.
svayam ātmanā eva ātmani ānandam gataḥ asmi,
nairmalyam abhyupagataḥ asmi.
mahyam namaḥ astu.
12. With a mind inwardly serene, all sorrow (śoka) gone, and a pure intention (āśaya), I have attained splendor through tranquility. I have reached joy (ānanda) within my self (ātman) by my own accord and achieved purity. Salutations be to me!
