अहो अहं गतश्चित्त्वं भवद्वाक्यार्थभावनात् ।
शान्तं जगज्जालमिदमग्रस्थमपि नाथ मे ॥ १ ॥
śrīrāma uvāca ,
aho ahaṃ gataścittvaṃ bhavadvākyārthabhāvanāt ,
śāntaṃ jagajjālamidamagrasthamapi nātha me 1

śāntam jagat-jālam idam agra-stham api nātha me

1. Śrī Rāma said: 'Oh, my lord! By contemplating the meaning of your words, I have attained a state of pure consciousness. For me, even this network of the world, though it stands before me, has become tranquil.'
परामन्तः प्रयातोऽस्मि परमात्मनि निर्वृतिम् ।
दीर्घावग्रहसंतप्तं वृष्ट्येव वसुधातलम् ॥ २ ॥
parāmantaḥ prayāto'smi paramātmani nirvṛtim ,
dīrghāvagrahasaṃtaptaṃ vṛṣṭyeva vasudhātalam 2
2. parām antaḥ prayātaḥ asmi paramātmani nirvṛtim
dīrgha-avagraha-saṃtaptam vṛṣṭyā iva vasudhātalam
2. parām antaḥ nirvṛtim paramātmani prayātaḥ asmi
iva dīrgha-avagraha-saṃtaptam vasudhātalam vṛṣṭyā
2. I have attained supreme inner peace (nirvṛti) within the supreme self (paramātman), just as the surface of the earth, tormented by a long drought, is refreshed by rain.
शाम्यामि शीतलाकारः सुखं तिष्ठामि केवलम् ।
प्रसादमनुयातोऽहं सरो निर्वारणं यथा ॥ ३ ॥
śāmyāmi śītalākāraḥ sukhaṃ tiṣṭhāmi kevalam ,
prasādamanuyāto'haṃ saro nirvāraṇaṃ yathā 3
3. śāmyāmi śītalākāraḥ sukham tiṣṭhāmi kevalam
prasādam anuyātaḥ aham saraḥ nirvāraṇam yathā
3. aham śītalākāraḥ śāmyāmi kevalam sukham tiṣṭhāmi
aham prasādam anuyātaḥ yathā saraḥ nirvāraṇam
3. I am tranquil, possessing a serene disposition, and I simply abide in happiness. I have attained a state of clarity, just as a lake becomes clear and free of obstructions.
सम्यक्प्रसन्नमखिलं दिङ्मण्डलमिदं मुने ।
यथाभूतं प्रपश्यामि निर्नीहारमिवाधुना ॥ ४ ॥
samyakprasannamakhilaṃ diṅmaṇḍalamidaṃ mune ,
yathābhūtaṃ prapaśyāmi nirnīhāramivādhunā 4
4. samyak prasannam akhilam diṅmaṇḍalam idam mune
yathābhūtam prapaśyāmi nirnīhāram iva adhunā
4. mune adhunā idam akhilam diṅmaṇḍalam samyak
prasannam yathābhūtam prapaśyāmi iva nirnīhāram
4. O sage, I now perceive this entire expanse of directions as perfectly clear and serene, just as if it were completely free of mist, seeing it exactly as it truly is.
जातोऽस्मि गतसंदेहः शान्ताशामृगतृष्णिकः ।
रागनीरागनिर्मुक्तो मृष्टजङ्गलशीतलः ॥ ५ ॥
jāto'smi gatasaṃdehaḥ śāntāśāmṛgatṛṣṇikaḥ ,
rāganīrāganirmukto mṛṣṭajaṅgalaśītalaḥ 5
5. jātaḥ asmi gatasandehaḥ śāntāśāmṛgatṛṣṇikaḥ
rāganīrāganirmuktaḥ mṛṣṭajaṅgalaśītalaḥ
5. aham gatasandehaḥ śāntāśāmṛgatṛṣṇikaḥ
rāganīrāganirmuktaḥ mṛṣṭajaṅgalaśītalaḥ jātaḥ asmi
5. I have become free from all doubt, with my mirage-like hopes entirely quelled. I am liberated from both attachment (rāga) and non-attachment (nīrāga), and I am purified and cool like a tranquil wilderness.
आत्मनैवान्तरानन्दं तत्प्राप्तोऽस्म्यन्तवर्जितम् ।
रसायनरसास्वादो यत्र नाथ तृणायते ॥ ६ ॥
ātmanaivāntarānandaṃ tatprāpto'smyantavarjitam ,
rasāyanarasāsvādo yatra nātha tṛṇāyate 6
6. ātmanā eva antarānandam tat prāptaḥ asmi
antavarjitam rasāyanarasāsvādaḥ yatra nātha tṛṇāyate
6. nātha ātmanā eva tat antavarjitam antarānandam aham
prāptaḥ asmi yatra rasāyanarasāsvādaḥ tṛṇāyate
6. O Lord, I have attained that boundless inner joy by my own self (ātman), a joy where even the taste of elixirs becomes as insignificant as a blade of grass.
अद्याहं प्रकृतिस्थोऽस्मि स्वस्थोऽस्मि मुदितोऽस्मि च ।
लोकारामोऽस्मि रामोऽस्मि नमो मह्यं नमोस्तु ते ॥ ७ ॥
adyāhaṃ prakṛtistho'smi svastho'smi mudito'smi ca ,
lokārāmo'smi rāmo'smi namo mahyaṃ namostu te 7
7. adya aham prakṛtisthaḥ asmi svasthaḥ asmi muditaḥ asmi
ca lokārāmaḥ asmi rāmaḥ asmi namaḥ mahyam namaḥ astu te
7. adya aham prakṛtisthaḥ asmi svasthaḥ asmi ca muditaḥ asmi
lokārāmaḥ asmi rāmaḥ asmi mahyam namaḥ te namaḥ astu
7. Today, I am established in my intrinsic nature (prakṛti); I am well, and I am joyful. I delight in the world; I am blissful. Salutations to me! Salutations to you!
ते संशयास्ताः कलनाः सर्वमस्तं गतं मम ।
रात्रिवेतालसंसारः प्रभात इव भास्करे ॥ ८ ॥
te saṃśayāstāḥ kalanāḥ sarvamastaṃ gataṃ mama ,
rātrivetālasaṃsāraḥ prabhāta iva bhāskare 8
8. te saṃśayāḥ tāḥ kalanāḥ sarvam astam gatam
mama rātrīvetālasaṃsāraḥ prabhāte iva bhāskare
8. te saṃśayāḥ tāḥ kalanāḥ mama sarvam astam gatam
rātrīvetālasaṃsāraḥ bhāskare prabhāte iva (astam gatam)
8. Those doubts and imaginings have all subsided for me. The cycle of existence (saṃsāra), which was like a ghoul of the night, has vanished as the dawn breaks with the sun.
निर्मले हृदि विस्तीर्णे संपन्ने हिमशीतले ।
मनो निर्वृतिमायातं सरसी शरदीव मे ॥ ९ ॥
nirmale hṛdi vistīrṇe saṃpanne himaśītale ,
mano nirvṛtimāyātaṃ sarasī śaradīva me 9
9. nirmale hṛdi vistīrṇe saṃpanne himaśītale
manaḥ nirvṛtim āyātam sarasī śaradī iva me
9. nirmale vistīrṇe saṃpanne himaśītale hṛdi
me manaḥ sarasī śaradī iva nirvṛtim āyātam
9. In my pure, vast, fully realized, and cool heart, my mind has attained complete tranquility, like a lake in autumn.
कलङ्क आत्मनः कस्मात्कथं चेत्यादिसंशयः ।
नूनं निर्मूलतां यातो मृगाङ्काग्रे यथा तमः ॥ १० ॥
kalaṅka ātmanaḥ kasmātkathaṃ cetyādisaṃśayaḥ ,
nūnaṃ nirmūlatāṃ yāto mṛgāṅkāgre yathā tamaḥ 10
10. kalaṅkaḥ ātmanaḥ kasmāt katham ca iti ādi saṃśayaḥ
nūnam nirmūlatām yātaḥ mṛgāṅkāgre yathā tamaḥ
10. ātmanaḥ kalaṅkaḥ kasmāt katham ca iti ādi saṃśayaḥ
nūnam mṛgāṅkāgre yathā tamaḥ (tathā) nirmūlatām yātaḥ
10. The doubt, "How and why does blemish arise for the self (ātman)?" and similar questions, have certainly become baseless, just as darkness vanishes before the moon.
सर्वमात्मैव सर्वत्र सर्वदा भाविताकृतिः ।
इदमन्यदिदं चान्यदित्यसत्कलना कुतः ॥ ११ ॥
sarvamātmaiva sarvatra sarvadā bhāvitākṛtiḥ ,
idamanyadidaṃ cānyadityasatkalanā kutaḥ 11
11. sarvam ātma eva sarvatra sarvadā bhāvitākṛtiḥ
idam anyat idam ca anyat iti asat kalanā kutaḥ
11. sarvatra sarvadā bhāvitākṛtiḥ sarvam ātma eva.
idam anyat idam ca anyat iti asat kalanā kutaḥ.
11. Everything, everywhere, always, is verily the Self (ātman) in its manifested form. From where, then, can arise the false notion that 'this is separate, and that is separate'?
कोऽभवं प्रागहं तादृक्तृष्णानिगडयन्त्रितः ।
अन्तरात्मानमेवेति विहसामि विकासवान् ॥ १२ ॥
ko'bhavaṃ prāgahaṃ tādṛktṛṣṇānigaḍayantritaḥ ,
antarātmānameveti vihasāmi vikāsavān 12
12. kaḥ abhavam prāk aham tādṛk tṛṣṇānigaḍayantritaḥ
antarātmānam eva iti vihasāmi vikāsavān
12. prāk aham tādṛk tṛṣṇānigaḍayantritaḥ kaḥ abhavam? iti antarātmānam eva vikāsavān vihasāmi.
12. Who was I formerly, so completely bound by the fetters of craving (tṛṣṇā)? Reflecting thus, I now laugh with a blossoming awareness at that very inner Self (antarātman).
आ इदानीं स्मृतं सम्यग्यथैष सकलोऽस्म्यसौ ।
यस्त्वद्वागमृतापूरस्नातेनायमहं स्थितः ॥ १३ ॥
ā idānīṃ smṛtaṃ samyagyathaiṣa sakalo'smyasau ,
yastvadvāgamṛtāpūrasnātenāyamahaṃ sthitaḥ 13
13. ā idānīm smṛtam samyak yathā eṣaḥ sakalaḥ asmi
asau yaḥ tvadvāgamṛtāpūrasnātena ayam aham sthitaḥ
13. ā ! idānīm samyak smṛtam,
yathā eṣaḥ sakalaḥ asau asmi.
ayam aham yaḥ tvadvāgamṛtāpūrasnātena sthitaḥ.
13. Ah! Now I have fully remembered that I am indeed this complete (Self), that very [Brahman]. It is I, bathed in the abundance of your nectar-like speech, who am now established (sthitaḥ).
अहो नु विततां भूमिमधिरूढोऽस्मि पावनीम् ।
इहस्थ एव यत्रार्को न पातालमिव स्थितः ॥ १४ ॥
aho nu vitatāṃ bhūmimadhirūḍho'smi pāvanīm ,
ihastha eva yatrārko na pātālamiva sthitaḥ 14
14. aho nu vitatām bhūmim adhirūḍhaḥ asmi pāvanīm
ihasthaḥ eva yatra arkaḥ na pātālam iva sthitaḥ
14. aho nu ! (aham) vitatām pāvanīm bhūmim adhirūḍhaḥ asmi.
yatra arkaḥ ihasthaḥ eva sthitaḥ,
pātālam iva na.
14. Oh, indeed! I have ascended to an expansive and purifying state (bhūmi), where the sun of consciousness remains ever-present, not sunken into the underworld (pātāla) as if.
मह्यं सत्तामुपेताय भावाभावभवार्णवात् ।
नमो नित्यं नमस्याय जयाम्यात्मात्मनात्मनि ॥ १५ ॥
mahyaṃ sattāmupetāya bhāvābhāvabhavārṇavāt ,
namo nityaṃ namasyāya jayāmyātmātmanātmani 15
15. mahyam sattām upetāya bhāvābhāvabhavārṇavāt
namaḥ nityam namasyāya jayāmi ātmā ātmanā ātmani
15. nityam namaḥ namasyāya mahyam sattām upetāya
bhāvābhāvabhavārṇavāt jayāmi ātmā ātmanā ātmani
15. Constant salutations to the one worthy of reverence, who has attained existence (sattā) for me, from the ocean of being, non-being, and becoming. I conquer the self (ātman) by the self (ātman), within the self (ātman).
अनुभववशतो हृदब्जकोशे स्फुटमलितां समुपागतेन नाथ ।
तव वरवचसेह वीतशोकां चिरमुदितां च दशामुपागतोऽस्मि ॥ १६ ॥
anubhavavaśato hṛdabjakośe sphuṭamalitāṃ samupāgatena nātha ,
tava varavacaseha vītaśokāṃ ciramuditāṃ ca daśāmupāgato'smi 16
16. anubhavavaśataḥ hṛdobjakośe
sphuṭamalitām samupāgatena nātha
tava varavacasā iha vītaśokām
ciram uditām ca daśām upāgataḥ asmi
16. nātha anubhavavaśataḥ hṛdobjakośe
sphuṭamalitām samupāgatena
tava varavacasā iha vītaśokām
ciram uditām ca daśām upāgataḥ asmi
16. O Lord (nātha), by me, who through the power of experience had attained a state clearly tainted within the lotus-cup of the heart, by your excellent words here, I have now achieved a long-lasting and joyful condition, free from sorrow.
