एतस्मिन्नन्तरे ज्ञप्तिर्जीवं वैदूरथं पुनः ।
संकल्पेन रुरोधाशु मनसः स्पन्दनं यथा ॥ १ ॥

etasminnantare jñaptirjīvaṃ vaidūrathaṃ punaḥ ,

1. Śrī Vasiṣṭha said: Meanwhile, Jñapti quickly restrained Vaidūratha's individual soul (jīva) by her mental resolve (saṅkalpa), just as the pulsation of the mind is checked.
लीलोवाच ।
वद देवि कियान्कालो गतोऽस्यामिह मन्दिरे ।
समाधौ मयि लीनायां महीपाले शवे स्थिते ॥ २ ॥
līlovāca ,
vada devi kiyānkālo gato'syāmiha mandire ,
samādhau mayi līnāyāṃ mahīpāle śave sthite 2
2. līlā uvāca vada devi kiyān kālaḥ gataḥ asyām iha
mandire samādhau mayi līnāyām mahīpāle śave sthite

devi,
vada kiyān kālaḥ iha asyām (nagaryām) mandire mayi samādhau līnāyām mahīpāle śave sthite gataḥ (asti)?
2. Līlā said: O Goddess, tell me, how much time has passed here in this palace while I was absorbed in deep meditation (samādhi) and the king remained as a corpse?
ज्ञाप्तिरुवाच ।
इह मासस्त्वतिक्रान्त इह दास्याविमे तव ।
रक्षार्थं वासगृहके स्वपतोऽवहिते स्थिते ॥ ३ ॥
jñāptiruvāca ,
iha māsastvatikrānta iha dāsyāvime tava ,
rakṣārthaṃ vāsagṛhake svapato'vahite sthite 3
3. jñaptiḥ uvāca iha māsaḥ tu atikrāntaḥ iha dāsyau ime
tava rakṣārtham vāsagṛhake svapataḥ avahite sthite
3. jñaptiḥ uvāca.
iha māsaḥ tu atikrāntaḥ.
iha tava ime dāsyau rakṣārtham vāsagṛhake svapataḥ (rājānam prati) avahite sthite (santi).
3. Jñapti said: Here, indeed, a month has passed. And here, these two maidservants of yours have remained attentive in the sleeping chamber for protection, while he (the king) was sleeping.
शृणु देहस्य किंवृत्तं तवेह वरवर्णिनि ।
शरीरं तव पक्षेण तत्क्लिन्नं बाष्पतां गतम् ॥ ४ ॥
śṛṇu dehasya kiṃvṛttaṃ taveha varavarṇini ,
śarīraṃ tava pakṣeṇa tatklinnaṃ bāṣpatāṃ gatam 4
4. śṛṇu dehasya kim vṛttam tava iha varavarṇini
śarīram tava pakṣeṇa tat klinnam bāṣpatām gatam
4. varavarṇini iha tava dehasya kim vṛttam śṛṇu
tava śarīram pakṣeṇa tat klinnam bāṣpatām gatam
4. Listen, O fair-featured woman, to what happened to your body here. Your body, on its own, became drenched and transformed into vapor.
निर्जीवं पतितं भूमौ संशुष्कमिव पल्लवम् ।
काष्ठकुड्योपमो जातः शवस्तु हिमशीतलः ॥ ५ ॥
nirjīvaṃ patitaṃ bhūmau saṃśuṣkamiva pallavam ,
kāṣṭhakuḍyopamo jātaḥ śavastu himaśītalaḥ 5
5. nirjīvam patitam bhūmau saṃśuṣkam iva pallavam
kāṣṭhakuḍyopamaḥ jātaḥ śavaḥ tu himaśītalaḥ
5. (tat) nirjīvam patitam bhūmau saṃśuṣkam pallavam
iva śavaḥ tu kāṣṭhakuḍyopamaḥ himaśītalaḥ jātaḥ
5. Lifeless, it fell to the ground like a dried-up leaf. The corpse became like a block of wood and was cold as ice.
ततो मन्त्रिभिरागत्य मृतैवेयमिति स्वयम् ।
क्लेदालोकाद्विनिर्णीय भूयो निष्कासितं गृहात् ॥ ६ ॥
tato mantribhirāgatya mṛtaiveyamiti svayam ,
kledālokādvinirṇīya bhūyo niṣkāsitaṃ gṛhāt 6
6. tataḥ mantribhiḥ āgatya mṛtā eva iyam iti svayam
kledālokāt vinirṇīya bhūyaḥ niṣkāsitam gṛhāt
6. tataḥ mantribhiḥ āgatya svayam kledālokāt "iyam mṛtā
eva" iti vinirṇīya bhūyaḥ gṛhāt niṣkāsitam (tat śarīram)
6. Then the ministers, having arrived and observed the decay, themselves determined that 'this one is indeed dead,' and thereupon removed the body from the house.
बहुनात्र किमुक्तेन नीत्वा चन्दनदारुभिः ।
चितौ संक्षिप्य सघृतं सहसा भस्मसात्कृतम् ॥ ७ ॥
bahunātra kimuktena nītvā candanadārubhiḥ ,
citau saṃkṣipya saghṛtaṃ sahasā bhasmasātkṛtam 7
7. bahunā atra kim uktena nītvā candanadārubhiḥ
citau saṃkṣipya saghṛtam sahasā bhasmasātkṛtam
7. atra bahunā uktena kim (asti) (tat
śarīram) candanadārubhiḥ nītvā
(tam) saghṛtam citau saṃkṣipya
sahasā bhasmasātkṛtam (abhūvat)
7. What more is there to say about this? Having carried (the body) with sandalwood logs, placed it on the pyre with ghee, it was swiftly reduced to ashes.
ततो राज्ञी मृतेत्युच्चैः कृत्वा रोदनमाकुलम् ।
परिवारस्तवाशेषं कृतवानौर्ध्वदेहिकम् ॥ ८ ॥
tato rājñī mṛtetyuccaiḥ kṛtvā rodanamākulam ,
parivārastavāśeṣaṃ kṛtavānaurdhvadehikam 8
8. tataḥ rājñī mṛtā iti uccaiḥ kṛtvā rodanam ākulam
parivāraḥ tava aśeṣam kṛtavān aurdhvadehikam
8. tataḥ rājñī mṛtā iti uccaiḥ ākulam rodanam kṛtvā,
tava aśeṣam parivāraḥ aurdhvadehikam kṛtavān
8. Then, believing the queen had died, your entire retinue loudly and distressfully lamented and completely performed your funeral rites.
इदानीं त्वामिहालोक्य सशरीरामुपागताम् ।
परलोकादागतेति महच्चित्रं भविष्यति ॥ ९ ॥
idānīṃ tvāmihālokya saśarīrāmupāgatām ,
paralokādāgateti mahaccitraṃ bhaviṣyati 9
9. idānīm tvām iha ālokya saśarīrām upāgatām
paralokāt āgatā iti mahat citram bhaviṣyati
9. idānīm iha saśarīrām upāgatām tvām ālokya,
paralokāt āgatā iti mahat citram bhaviṣyati
9. Now, upon seeing you here, having arrived embodied, there will be great astonishment, 'She has come from the other world!'
त्वं तु तेन शरीरेण सत्यसंकल्पतः सुते ।
दृश्यसे स्ववदातेन चित्रं तत्र तवोपरि ॥ १० ॥
tvaṃ tu tena śarīreṇa satyasaṃkalpataḥ sute ,
dṛśyase svavadātena citraṃ tatra tavopari 10
10. tvam tu tena śarīreṇa satyasaṅkalpataḥ sute
dṛśyase svavat avadātena citram tatra tava upari
10. sute tvam tu satyasaṅkalpataḥ tena svavat
avadātena śarīreṇa dṛśyase; tatra tava upari citram
10. But you, O daughter, by the power of your true resolve, are seen with that body, which is as pure as your own. That is a wonder regarding you.
यद्वासना त्वमभवो देहं प्रति तदेव ते ।
रूपमभ्युदितं बाले तेन प्राक्सदृशं तव ॥ ११ ॥
yadvāsanā tvamabhavo dehaṃ prati tadeva te ,
rūpamabhyuditaṃ bāle tena prāksadṛśaṃ tava 11
11. yat vāsanā tvam abhavaḥ deham prati tat eva te
rūpam abhyuditam bāle tena prāk sadṛśam tava
11. bāle,
tvam deham prati yat vāsanā abhavaḥ,
tat eva te rūpam abhyuditam; tena tava prāk sadṛśam
11. O child, whatever deep impression (vāsanā) you had concerning your body, that very form has manifested for you, and for that reason, it is similar to your former appearance.
स्ववासनानुसारेण सर्वः सर्वं हि पश्यति ।
दृष्टान्तोऽत्राविसंवादी बालवेतालदर्शनम् ॥ १२ ॥
svavāsanānusāreṇa sarvaḥ sarvaṃ hi paśyati ,
dṛṣṭānto'trāvisaṃvādī bālavetāladarśanam 12
12. sva-vāsanā-anusāreṇa sarvaḥ sarvam hi paśyati
dṛṣṭāntaḥ atra avisaṃvādī bālaveṭāladarśanam
12. sarvaḥ hi sva-vāsanā-anusāreṇa sarvam paśyati
atra avisaṃvādī dṛṣṭāntaḥ bālaveṭāladarśanam
12. Everyone indeed perceives everything according to their own ingrained predispositions (vāsanā). An irrefutable illustration of this is how a child perceives a ghost (vetāla).
आतिवाहिकदेहासि संपन्ना सिद्धसुन्दरि ।
विस्मृतस्त्वेव देहोऽसौ प्राक्तनोऽनपवासनः ॥ १३ ॥
ātivāhikadehāsi saṃpannā siddhasundari ,
vismṛtastveva deho'sau prāktano'napavāsanaḥ 13
13. ātivāhikadehā asi sampannā siddhasundari vismṛtaḥ
tu eva dehaḥ asau prāktanaḥ anapavāsanaḥ
13. siddhasundari tvam ātivāhikadehā sampannā asi tu
eva asau prāktanaḥ anapavāsanaḥ dehaḥ vismṛtaḥ
13. O beautiful Siddha woman (siddhasundarī), you are now endowed with the subtle body (ātivāhika deha). But that former body, which was not free from inherent tendencies (vāsanā), has certainly been forgotten.
रूढातिवाहिकदृशः प्रशाम्यत्याधिभौतिकः ।
बुधस्य दृश्यमानोऽपि शरन्मेघ इवाम्बरे ॥ १४ ॥
rūḍhātivāhikadṛśaḥ praśāmyatyādhibhautikaḥ ,
budhasya dṛśyamāno'pi śaranmegha ivāmbare 14
14. rūḍhātivāhikadṛśaḥ praśāmyati ādhibhautikaḥ
budhasya dṛśyamānaḥ api śaranmeghaḥ iva ambare
14. rūḍhātivāhikadṛśaḥ budhasya ādhibhautikaḥ ambare
śaranmeghaḥ iva dṛśyamānaḥ api praśāmyati
14. For one whose understanding (dṛṣṭi) is deeply rooted in the subtle (ātivāhika) experience, the gross material existence (ādhibhautika) recedes. For such a wise person (budha), it is like an autumn cloud in the sky, which, though seen, holds no substantial reality.
रूढातिवाहिकीभावः सर्वो भवति देहकः ।
निर्जलाम्भोदसदृशो निर्गन्धकुसुमोपमः ॥ १५ ॥
rūḍhātivāhikībhāvaḥ sarvo bhavati dehakaḥ ,
nirjalāmbhodasadṛśo nirgandhakusumopamaḥ 15
15. rūḍhātivāhikībhāvaḥ sarvaḥ bhavati dehakaḥ
nirjalāmbhodasadṛśaḥ nirgandhakusumopamaḥ
15. rūḍhātivāhikībhāvaḥ sarvaḥ dehakaḥ
nirjalāmbhodasadṛśaḥ nirgandhakusumopamaḥ bhavati
15. When the state of being rooted in the subtle (ātivāhika) is established, every body (deha) becomes like a cloud without water or a flower devoid of fragrance.
सद्वासनस्य रूढायामातिवाहिकसंविदि ।
देहो विस्मृतिमायाति गर्भसंस्थेव यौवने ॥ १६ ॥
sadvāsanasya rūḍhāyāmātivāhikasaṃvidi ,
deho vismṛtimāyāti garbhasaṃstheva yauvane 16
16. sadvāsanāsya rūḍhāyām ātivāhika-saṃvidi dehaḥ
vismṛtim āyāti garbhasaṃsthā iva yauvane
16. ātivāhika-saṃvidi sadvāsanāsya rūḍhāyām dehaḥ
vismṛtim āyāti garbhasaṃsthā yauvane iva
16. When a positive innate tendency (sadvāsanā) becomes deeply rooted in the subtle body's consciousness (ātivāhika-saṃvit), the physical body is forgotten, much like one forgets their state in the womb upon reaching youth.
एकत्रिंशेऽद्य दिवसे प्राप्ता वयमिहाम्बरे ।
प्रभाते मोहिते दास्यौ मयैते निद्रयाधुना ॥ १७ ॥
ekatriṃśe'dya divase prāptā vayamihāmbare ,
prabhāte mohite dāsyau mayaite nidrayādhunā 17
17. ekatriṃśe adya divase prāptā vayam iha ambare
prabhāte mohite dāsyau mayā ete nidrayā adhunā
17. adya ekatriṃśe divase vayam iha ambare prāptā.
prabhāte mayā nidrayā ete dāsyau adhunā mohite.
17. Today, on the thirty-first day, we have arrived here in the sky. I have now put these two maids to sleep this morning.
तदेहि यावल्लीलायै लीले संकल्पलीलया ।
आत्मानं दर्शयावोऽस्यै व्यवहारः प्रवर्तताम् ॥ १८ ॥
tadehi yāvallīlāyai līle saṃkalpalīlayā ,
ātmānaṃ darśayāvo'syai vyavahāraḥ pravartatām 18
18. tat ehi yāvat līlāyai līle saṃkalpalīlayā
ātmānam darśayāvaḥ asyai vyavahāraḥ pravartatām
18. tat O Līle ehi.
yāvat saṃkalpalīlayā līlāyai asyai ātmānam darśayāvaḥ,
vyavahāraḥ pravartatām.
18. Therefore, O Lila (my companion), come! Let us, through the play of our imaginative power (saṃkalpalīlā), reveal ourselves (ātman) to this [other] Lila, so that her ordinary life (vyavahāra) may continue.
श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
आवां तावदिमे लीला पश्यत्वित्येव चिन्तिते ।
ज्ञप्त्या देव्या ततस्तत्र दृश्ये दीप्ते बभूवतुः ॥ १९ ॥
śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca ,
āvāṃ tāvadime līlā paśyatvityeva cintite ,
jñaptyā devyā tatastatra dṛśye dīpte babhūvatuḥ 19
19. śrīvasiṣṭhaḥ uvāca āvām tāvat ime līlā paśyatu iti eva
cintite jñaptyā devyā tataḥ tatra dṛśye dīpte babhūvatuḥ
19. śrīvasiṣṭhaḥ uvāca.
āvām līlā paśyatu iti eva tāvat cintite,
tataḥ tatra jñaptyā devyā ime dṛśye dīpte babhūvatuḥ.
19. Śrī Vasiṣṭha said: "When they both (the two higher Lilas) thought, 'Let Lila see us!', then, by the divine intelligence (jñapti devī), those two indeed became visible and radiant there."
सा विदूरथलीलाथ समाकुलविलोचना ।
गृहमालोकयामास तत्तेजःपुञ्जभास्वरम् ॥ २० ॥
sā vidūrathalīlātha samākulavilocanā ,
gṛhamālokayāmāsa tattejaḥpuñjabhāsvaram 20
20. sā vidūrarathalīlā atha samākulavilocanā
gṛham ālokayāmāsa tat tejaḥpuñjabhāsvaram
20. atha sā vidūrarathalīlā samākulavilocanā
tat tejaḥpuñjabhāsvaram gṛham ālokayāmāsa
20. Then, Līlā, whose eyes were agitated, gazed upon that house, which was resplendent with a mass of light.
चन्द्रबिम्बादिवोत्कीर्णं धौतं हेमद्रवैरिव ।
ज्वालाया द्रवशीतायास्तत्प्रभाद्रवभित्तिमत् ॥ २१ ॥
candrabimbādivotkīrṇaṃ dhautaṃ hemadravairiva ,
jvālāyā dravaśītāyāstatprabhādravabhittimat 21
21. candrabimbāt iva utkīrṇam dhautam hemadravaiḥ iva
jvālāyāḥ dravaśītāyāḥ tat prabhādravabhittimat
21. tat candrabimbāt iva utkīrṇam hemadravaiḥ iva
dhautam dravaśītāyāḥ jvālāyāḥ prabhādravabhittimat
21. It (the house) appeared as if carved from the disk of the moon, or washed with liquid gold; it had walls made of fluid, cool, flame-like radiance.
गृहमालोक्य पुरतो लीलाज्ञप्ती विलोक्य ते ।
उत्थाय संभ्रमवती तयोः पादेषु सापतत् ॥ २२ ॥
gṛhamālokya purato līlājñaptī vilokya te ,
utthāya saṃbhramavatī tayoḥ pādeṣu sāpatat 22
22. gṛham ālokya purataḥ līlājñaptī vilokya te
utthāya saṃbhramavatī tayoḥ pādeṣu sā apatat
22. sā gṛham ālokya purataḥ līlājñaptī te vilokya
utthāya saṃbhramavatī tayoḥ pādeṣu apatat
22. After seeing the house, and then noticing Līlā's two messengers before her, she, filled with agitation, rose and fell at their feet.
मज्जयायागते देव्यौ जयतां जीवनप्रदे ।
इह पूर्वमहं प्राप्ता भवत्योर्मार्गशोधिनी ॥ २३ ॥
majjayāyāgate devyau jayatāṃ jīvanaprade ,
iha pūrvamahaṃ prāptā bhavatyormārgaśodhinī 23
23. majjayā āgate devyau jayatām jīvanaprade iha
pūrvam aham prāptā bhavatyoḥ mārgaśodhinī
23. majjayā āgate jīvanaprade devyau jayatām!
aham iha pūrvam bhavatyoḥ mārgaśodhinī prāptā
23. "O two goddesses, givers of life, who have arrived for immersion, may you two be victorious! I arrived here before you, as the one who cleanses your path."
इत्युक्तवत्यां तस्यां ता मानिन्यो मत्तयौवनाः ।
उपाविशन्विष्टरेषु लतामेरुशिरःस्विव ॥ २४ ॥
ityuktavatyāṃ tasyāṃ tā māninyo mattayauvanāḥ ,
upāviśanviṣṭareṣu latāmeruśiraḥsviva 24
24. iti uktavatyām tasyām tāḥ māninyaḥ mattayauvanāḥ
upāviśan viṣṭareṣu latā meruśiraḥsu iva
24. tasyām iti uktavatyām,
mattayauvanāḥ tāḥ māninyaḥ,
latā meruśiraḥsu iva,
viṣṭareṣu upāviśan
24. When she finished speaking, those proud women, exuberant with their youth, sat down on the seats, resembling creepers resting on mountain peaks.
ज्ञप्तिरुवाच ।
सुते वद कथं प्राप्ता त्वमिमं देशमादितः ।
किं वृत्तं ते त्वया दृष्टं किमिवाध्वनि कुत्र वा ॥ २५ ॥
jñaptiruvāca ,
sute vada kathaṃ prāptā tvamimaṃ deśamāditaḥ ,
kiṃ vṛttaṃ te tvayā dṛṣṭaṃ kimivādhvani kutra vā 25
25. jñaptiḥ uvāca sute vada katham prāptā tvam imam deśam
āditaḥ kim vṛttam te tvayā dṛṣṭam kim iva adhvani kutra vā
25. jñaptiḥ uvāca.
sute,
tvam āditaḥ imam deśam katham prāptā,
vada.
te kim vṛttam,
tvayā kim dṛṣṭam,
adhvani kutra vā kim iva?
25. Jñapti asked, "My daughter, tell me how you initially reached this place. What happened to you, what did you see on your journey, and where did these events occur?"
विदूरथलीलोवाच ।
देवि तस्मिन्प्रदेशे सा जातमूर्च्छा तदाभवम् ।
द्वितीयेन्दोः कलेवाहं कल्पान्तज्वालया हता ॥ २६ ॥
vidūrathalīlovāca ,
devi tasminpradeśe sā jātamūrcchā tadābhavam ,
dvitīyendoḥ kalevāhaṃ kalpāntajvālayā hatā 26
26. vidūrathalīlā uvāca devi tasmin pradeśe sā jātamūrcchā tadā
abhavam dvitīyendoh kalā iva aham kalpāntajvālayā hatā
26. vidūrathalīlā uvāca.
devi,
tadā tasmin pradeśe sā jātamūrcchā aham abhavam.
kalpāntajvālayā hatā dvitīyendoh kalā iva (aham abhavam).
26. Vidūratha Līlā replied, "O goddess, at that place, I became unconscious. I was like the digit of a second moon destroyed by the flames of the cosmic dissolution (kalpānta)."
न चेतितं मया किंचित्समं विषममेव च ।
ततस्तरलपक्ष्मान्ते विनिमील्य विलोचने ॥ २७ ॥
na cetitaṃ mayā kiṃcitsamaṃ viṣamameva ca ,
tatastaralapakṣmānte vinimīlya vilocane 27
27. na cetitam mayā kiñcit samam viṣamam eva ca
tataḥ taralapakṣmānte vinimīlya vilocane
27. mayā kiñcit samam विषमम् eva ca na cetitam.
tataḥ,
taralapakṣmānte vilocane vinimīlya.
27. I perceived nothing at all, neither smooth nor rough ground. Then, I closed my eyes, which had trembling eyelashes.
ततो मरणमूर्च्छान्ते पश्यामि परमेश्वरि ।
यावदभ्युदितास्म्याशु प्लुता च गगनोदरे ॥ २८ ॥
tato maraṇamūrcchānte paśyāmi parameśvari ,
yāvadabhyuditāsmyāśu plutā ca gaganodare 28
28. tataḥ maraṇamūrcchānte paśyāmi parameśvari
yāvat abhyuditā asmi āśu plutā ca gaganodare
28. parameśvari tataḥ maraṇamūrcchānte aham yāvat
āśu abhyuditā ca gaganodare plutā asmi paśyāmi
28. Then, O Supreme Goddess, at the end of that death-like unconsciousness, I perceived myself swiftly risen and floating in the expanse of the sky.
भूताकाशेऽनिलरथं समारूढास्म्यहं ततः ।
आनीता गन्धलेखेव तेनाहमिममालयम् ॥ २९ ॥
bhūtākāśe'nilarathaṃ samārūḍhāsmyahaṃ tataḥ ,
ānītā gandhalekheva tenāhamimamālayam 29
29. bhūtākāśe anilarathaṃ samārūḍhā asmi aham tataḥ
ānītā gandhalekhā iva tena aham imam ālayam
29. tataḥ aham bhūtākāśe anilaratham samārūḍhā asmi
tena aham gandhalekhā iva imam ālayam ānītā
29. Then, I found myself mounted on a wind-chariot in the elemental space, and by him, I was brought to this abode as if I were a wisp of fragrance.
देवि पश्यामि सदनं नायकेनाभ्यलंकृतम् ।
दीप्तदीपं विविक्तं च महार्हशयनान्वितम् ॥ ३० ॥
devi paśyāmi sadanaṃ nāyakenābhyalaṃkṛtam ,
dīptadīpaṃ viviktaṃ ca mahārhaśayanānvitam 30
30. devi paśyāmi sadanam nāyakena abhyalaṅkṛtam
dīptadīpam viviktam ca mahārhaśayanānvitam
30. devi aham nāyakena abhyalaṅkṛtam dīptadīpam
viviktam ca mahārhaśayanānvitam sadanam paśyāmi
30. O Goddess, I see this dwelling, adorned by my master, illuminated by bright lamps, secluded and magnificent, and equipped with valuable beds.
पतिमालोकयामीमं यावदेष विदूरथः ।
शेते कुसुमगुप्ताङ्गो मधुः पुष्पवने यथा ॥ ३१ ॥
patimālokayāmīmaṃ yāvadeṣa vidūrathaḥ ,
śete kusumaguptāṅgo madhuḥ puṣpavane yathā 31
31. patim ālokayāmi imam yāvat eṣaḥ vidūrathaḥ
śete kusumaguptāṅgaḥ madhuḥ puṣpavane yathā
31. yāvat aham imam patim ālokayāmi eṣaḥ vidūrathaḥ
kusumaguptāṅgaḥ yathā madhuḥ puṣpavane śete
31. Then I behold my husband, Vidūratha, lying there with his body covered by flowers, just as the spring season (reclines) in a flower garden.
अथ संग्रामसंरम्भश्रमार्तोऽयं स्वपित्यलम् ।
इति निद्रा मया सेयं देवेश्वरि न वारिता ॥ ३२ ॥
atha saṃgrāmasaṃrambhaśramārto'yaṃ svapityalam ,
iti nidrā mayā seyaṃ deveśvari na vāritā 32
32. atha saṅgrāmasaṃrambhaśramārtaḥ ayam svapiti
alam iti nidrā mayā sā iyam deveśvari na vāritā
32. he deveśvari,
atha saṅgrāmasaṃrambhaśramārtaḥ ayam alam svapiti iti mayā sā iyam nidrā na vāritā
32. O Goddess of gods, this king is now deeply asleep, afflicted by the fatigue from the intensity of the battle. Thinking thus, I did not prevent this sleep.
अनन्तरमिमं देशं प्राप्ते देव्याविमे त्विति ।
यथानुभूतं कथितं मदनुग्रहकारिणि ॥ ३३ ॥
anantaramimaṃ deśaṃ prāpte devyāvime tviti ,
yathānubhūtaṃ kathitaṃ madanugrahakāriṇi 33
33. anantaram imam deśam prāpte devyau ime tu
iti yathānubhūtam kathitam madanugrahakāriṇi
33. he madanugrahakāriṇi,
anantaram ime devyau imam deśam prāpte tu iti yathānubhūtam kathitam
33. O benefactor (madanugrahakāriṇi), when these two goddesses (devyau) arrived at this place, I recounted what had actually happened (yathānubhūtam).
ज्ञप्तिरुवाच ।
हे हंसहारिगामिन्यौ लीले ललितलोचने ।
उत्थापयामो नृपतिं शवतल्पतलादिमम् ॥ ३४ ॥
jñaptiruvāca ,
he haṃsahārigāminyau līle lalitalocane ,
utthāpayāmo nṛpatiṃ śavatalpatalādimam 34

34. Jñapti said: 'O Līlā and lovely-eyed one, O you two who walk gracefully like swans, we shall awaken this king from under his bed of corpses.'
इत्युक्त्वा मुमुचे जीवमामोदमिव पद्मिनी ।
ससमीरलताकारस्तन्नासानिकटं ययौ ॥ ३५ ॥
ityuktvā mumuce jīvamāmodamiva padminī ,
sasamīralatākārastannāsānikaṭaṃ yayau 35
35. iti uktvā mumuche jīvam āmodam iva padminī
sasamīralatākāraḥ tat nāsānikaṭam yayau
35. iti uktvā,

(jñaptiḥ) jīvam mumuche sasamīralatākāraḥ (saḥ) tat nāsānikaṭam yayau
35. Having spoken thus, [Jñapti] released the vital breath (jīva), just as a lotus plant (padminī) releases its fragrance. That (vital breath), appearing like a creeper swayed by the wind, then went near his nose.
घ्राणकोशं विवेशान्तर्वंशरन्ध्रमिवानिलः ।
स्ववासनाशतान्यन्तर्दधदब्धिर्मणीनिव ॥ ३६ ॥
ghrāṇakośaṃ viveśāntarvaṃśarandhramivānilaḥ ,
svavāsanāśatānyantardadhadabdhirmaṇīniva 36
36. ghrāṇakośam viveśa antaḥ vaṃśarandhram iva anilaḥ
svavāsanāśatāni antaḥ dadhat abdhiḥ maṇīn iva
36. anilaḥ antaḥ ghrāṇakośam viveśa vaṃśarandhram iva [saḥ]
svavāsanāśatāni antaḥ dadhat [āsīt] abdhiḥ maṇīn iva
36. The vital air (anila) entered the cavity of the nostrils, just as wind enters a hole in a bamboo reed, carrying within it hundreds of its own latent impressions (vāsanā), much like an ocean (abdhi) holds jewels within itself.
अन्तस्थजीवं वदनं तस्य तत्कान्तिमाययौ ।
पद्मस्यावग्रहे पद्मं सुवृष्ट इव वारिणि ॥ ३७ ॥
antasthajīvaṃ vadanaṃ tasya tatkāntimāyayau ,
padmasyāvagrahe padmaṃ suvṛṣṭa iva vāriṇi 37
37. antasthajīvam vadanam tasya tatkāntim āyayau
padmasya avagrahe padmam suvṛṣṭe iva vāriṇi
37. antasthajīvam tasya vadanam tatkāntim āyayau,
padmasya avagrahe [mlānam] padmam suvṛṣṭe vāriṇi iva
37. His face, now containing the individual soul (jīva), acquired its radiance, just as a lotus (padma) blossom that was withered by drought regains its beauty in fresh rain.
क्रमादङ्गानि सर्वाणि सरसानि चकाशिरे ।
तस्य पुष्पाकर इव लताजालानि भूभृतः ॥ ३८ ॥
kramādaṅgāni sarvāṇi sarasāni cakāśire ,
tasya puṣpākara iva latājālāni bhūbhṛtaḥ 38
38. kramāt aṅgāni sarvāṇi sarasāni cakāśire
tasya puṣpākaraḥ iva latājālāni bhūbhṛtaḥ
38. kramāt tasya sarvāṇi aṅgāni sarasāni cakāśire,
bhūbhṛtaḥ latājālāni puṣpākaraḥ iva
38. Gradually, all his limbs became fresh and vibrant, shining forth like networks of creepers (latājālāni) on a mountain (bhūbhṛt) during springtime (puṣpākara).
अथाबभौ कलापूर्णः स राकायामिवोडुराट् ।
भासयन्भुवनं भूरि वदनेन्दुमरीचिभिः ॥ ३९ ॥
athābabhau kalāpūrṇaḥ sa rākāyāmivoḍurāṭ ,
bhāsayanbhuvanaṃ bhūri vadanendumarīcibhiḥ 39
39. atha ababhau kalāpūrṇaḥ saḥ rākāyām iva uḍurāṭ
bhāsayān bhuvanam bhūri vadanendumarīcibhiḥ
39. atha saḥ kalāpūrṇaḥ ababhau,
rākāyām uḍurāṭ iva (saḥ) bhūri bhuvanam vadanendumarīcibhiḥ bhāsayān [āsīt]
39. Then he shone, complete in his splendor, just like the full moon (uḍurāṭ) on the full moon night (rākā), illuminating the vast world with the rays emanating from his moon-like face.
स्फुरयामास सोऽङ्गानि रसवन्ति मृदूनि च ।
कनकोज्वलकान्तीनि पल्लवानीव माधवः ॥ ४० ॥
sphurayāmāsa so'ṅgāni rasavanti mṛdūni ca ,
kanakojvalakāntīni pallavānīva mādhavaḥ 40
40. sphurayāmāsa saḥ aṅgāni rasavanti mṛdūni ca
kanakojjvalakāntīni pallavāni iva mādhavaḥ
40. saḥ mādhavaḥ iva kanakojjvalakāntīni rasavanti
mṛdūni ca pallavāni aṅgāni sphurayāmāsa
40. He caused his soft, charming limbs, radiant with the gleam of gold, to stir, just as Spring (mādhavaḥ) makes the golden-bright tender shoots unfurl.
उन्मीलयामास दृशौ विमलालोलतारके ।
हारिण्यौ सुभगाभोगे चन्द्रार्कौ भुवनं यथा ॥ ४१ ॥
unmīlayāmāsa dṛśau vimalālolatārake ,
hāriṇyau subhagābhoge candrārkau bhuvanaṃ yathā 41
41. unmīlayāmāsa dṛśau vimalālolatārake hāriṇyau
subhagābhoge candrārkau bhuvanam yathā
41. unmīlayāmāsa dṛśau vimalālolatārake hāriṇyau

41. He opened his two captivating eyes, with their clear, restless pupils and beautiful expanse, just as the moon and sun illuminate the world (bhuvana).
उत्तस्थौ प्रोल्लसत्कायो विन्ध्याद्रिर्वृद्धिमानिव ।
उवाच कः स्थित इति घनगम्भीरनिःस्वनम् ॥ ४२ ॥
uttasthau prollasatkāyo vindhyādrirvṛddhimāniva ,
uvāca kaḥ sthita iti ghanagambhīraniḥsvanam 42
42. uttasthau prollasatkāyaḥ vindhyādriḥ vṛddhimān
iva uvāca kaḥ sthitaḥ iti ghanagambhīraniḥsvanam

42. He rose up, his body radiantly glowing, as if the Vindhya mountain itself were growing. Then, with a deep and resonant sound, he said, 'Who stands here?'
लीलाद्वयमथास्याग्रे प्रोवाचादिश्यतामिति ।
स ददर्श पुरो नम्रं लीलाद्वयमवस्थितम् ॥ ४३ ॥
līlādvayamathāsyāgre provācādiśyatāmiti ,
sa dadarśa puro namraṃ līlādvayamavasthitam 43
43. līlādvayam atha asya agre provāca ādiśyatām iti
saḥ dadarśa puras namram līlādvayam avasthitam
43. atha asya agre līlādvayam ādiśyatām iti provāca
saḥ puras namram avasthitam līlādvayam dadarśa
43. Then, before him, the pair of Līlā spoke, saying, 'Let your command (ādīśyatām) be given!' He then beheld the humble pair of Līlā standing before him.
समाचारं समाकारं समरूपं समस्थिति ।
समवाक्यं समोद्योगं समानन्दं समोदयम् ॥ ४४ ॥
samācāraṃ samākāraṃ samarūpaṃ samasthiti ,
samavākyaṃ samodyogaṃ samānandaṃ samodayam 44
44. samācāram samākāram samarūpam samasthitim
samavākyam samodyogam samānandam samodayam
44. samācāram samākāram samarūpam samasthitim
samavākyam samodyogam samānandam samodayam
44. Possessing the same conduct, the same appearance, the same form, and the same state; endowed with the same speech, the same endeavor, the same joy, and the same emergence.
का त्वं केयं कुतश्चेयमित्याह स विलोकयन् ।
तस्मै लीलाह हे देव श्रूयतां यद्वदाम्यहम् ॥ ४५ ॥
kā tvaṃ keyaṃ kutaśceyamityāha sa vilokayan ,
tasmai līlāha he deva śrūyatāṃ yadvadāmyaham 45
45. kā tvam kā iyam kutaḥ ca iyam iti āha saḥ vilokayan
tasmai līlā āha he deva śrūyatām yat vadāmi aham
45. saḥ vilokayan iti kā tvam? kā iyam? kutaḥ ca iyam? āha.
tasmai līlā āha,
he deva,
yat aham vadāmi,
(tat) śrūyatām.
45. Observing, he asked, "Who are you? Who is this, and from where is she?" To him, Līlā said, "O Lord, listen to what I am about to tell you."
महिला तव लीलाहं प्राक्तनी सहधर्मिणी ।
वागर्थस्येव संपृक्ता स्थिता संश्लेषशालिनी ॥ ४६ ॥
mahilā tava līlāhaṃ prāktanī sahadharmiṇī ,
vāgarthasyeva saṃpṛktā sthitā saṃśleṣaśālinī 46
46. mahilā tava līlā aham prāktanī sahadharmiṇī vāk
arthasya iva sampṛktā sthitā saṃśleṣa-śālinī
46. aham tava mahilā līlā prāktanī sahadharmiṇī (asmi).
(aham) vāk arthasya iva sampṛktā saṃśleṣa-śālinī sthitā (asmi).
46. "I am your Līlā, your ancient (prāktanī) wife (sahadharmiṇī), who remains ever united (sampṛktā sthitā) and inseparably bound (saṃśleṣa-śālinī), just like speech (vāk) and its meaning (artha)."
इयं लीला द्वितीया ते महिला हेलया मया ।
उपार्जिता त्वदर्थेन प्रतिबिम्बमयी शुभा ॥ ४७ ॥
iyaṃ līlā dvitīyā te mahilā helayā mayā ,
upārjitā tvadarthena pratibimbamayī śubhā 47
47. iyam līlā dvitīyā te mahilā helayā mayā
upārjitā tvad-arthena pratibimba-mayī śubhā
47. iyam dvitīyā te mahilā (ca) śubhā pratibimba-mayī (ca asti).
(sā) mayā helayā tvad-arthena upārjitā (asti).
47. "This second Līlā, your wife, auspicious and consisting of a mere reflection (pratibimba), was brought into being by me playfully (helayā) for your sake."
शिरोभागोपविष्टेयं पाहि हैममहासने ।
एषा सरस्वती देव त्रैलोक्यजननी शिवा ॥ ४८ ॥
śirobhāgopaviṣṭeyaṃ pāhi haimamahāsane ,
eṣā sarasvatī deva trailokyajananī śivā 48
48. śirobhāga-upaviṣṭā iyam pāhi haima-mahāsane
eṣā sarasvatī deva trailokya-jananī śivā
48. deva iyam śirobhāga-upaviṣṭā haima-mahāsane
eṣā sarasvatī trailokya-jananī śivā pāhi
48. O god, protect this Sarasvatī, who is seated in the foremost position on the splendid golden throne. She is indeed the auspicious mother of the three worlds.
अस्माकं पुण्यसंभारैरिह साक्षादुपागता ।
अनयेमे पराल्लोकादिहानीते महीपते ॥ ४९ ॥
asmākaṃ puṇyasaṃbhārairiha sākṣādupāgatā ,
anayeme parāllokādihānīte mahīpate 49
49. asmākam puṇya-saṃbhāraiḥ iha sākṣāt upāgatā
anayā ime parāt lokāt iha ānīte mahīpate
49. mahīpate asmākam puṇya-saṃbhāraiḥ sā iha
sākṣāt upāgatā anayā ime parāt lokāt iha ānīte
49. O King, she has appeared directly here due to our accumulated merits. By her, these two have been brought here from the higher world.
इत्याकर्ण्य समुत्थाय राजा राजीवलोचनः ।
लम्बमाल्याम्बरधरः पपात ज्ञप्तिपादयोः ॥ ५० ॥
ityākarṇya samutthāya rājā rājīvalocanaḥ ,
lambamālyāmbaradharaḥ papāta jñaptipādayoḥ 50
50. iti ākarṇya samutthāya rājā rājīva-locanaḥ
lamba-mālya-ambara-dharaḥ papāta jñapti-pādayoḥ
50. iti ākarṇya rājā rājīva-locanaḥ lamba-mālya-ambara-dharaḥ
samutthāya jñapti-pādayoḥ papāta
50. Having heard this, the lotus-eyed king, adorned with flowing garlands and garments, rose and fell at the feet of the one who had given the information.
सरस्वति नमस्तुभ्यं देवि सर्वहितप्रदे ।
प्रयच्छ वरदे मेधां दीर्घमायुर्धनानि च ॥ ५१ ॥
sarasvati namastubhyaṃ devi sarvahitaprade ,
prayaccha varade medhāṃ dīrghamāyurdhanāni ca 51
51. sarasvati namas tubhyam devi sarva-hita-prade
prayaccha varade medhām dīrgham āyuḥ dhanāni ca
51. sarasvati devi sarva-hita-prade varade tubhyam
namas medhām dīrgham āyuḥ ca dhanāni prayaccha
51. O Sarasvatī, salutations to you, O Goddess, bestower of all welfare. O giver of boons, grant me intelligence, long life, and wealth.
इत्युक्तवन्तं हस्तेन पस्पर्श ज्ञप्तिदेवता ।
सरस्वत्युवाच ।
त्वं पुत्राभिमतार्थाढ्यो भवेति भवनान्वितः ॥ ५२ ॥
ityuktavantaṃ hastena pasparśa jñaptidevatā ,
sarasvatyuvāca ,
tvaṃ putrābhimatārthāḍhyo bhaveti bhavanānvitaḥ 52
52. iti uktavantam hastena pasparśa jñapti-devatā sarasvatī uvāca
tvam putra-abhimata-artha-āḍhyaḥ bhava iti bhava-anvitaḥ
52. jñapti-devatā sarasvatī iti uktavantam hastena pasparśa uvāca
tvam putra-abhimata-artha-āḍhyaḥ bhava-anvitaḥ bhava iti
52. The deity of knowledge (Sarasvatī) touched him who had spoken thus with her hand. Sarasvatī then said, "May you be endowed with the desired objects for your son and filled with prosperity."
सर्वापदः सकलदुष्कृतदृष्टयश्च गच्छन्तु वः शममनन्तसुखानि सम्यक् ।
आयान्तु नित्यमुदिता जनता भवन्तु राष्ट्रेस्थिराश्च विलसन्तु सदैव लक्ष्म्यः ॥ ५३ ॥
sarvāpadaḥ sakaladuṣkṛtadṛṣṭayaśca gacchantu vaḥ śamamanantasukhāni samyak ,
āyāntu nityamuditā janatā bhavantu rāṣṭresthirāśca vilasantu sadaiva lakṣmyaḥ 53
53. sarva-āpadaḥ sakala-duṣkṛta-dṛṣṭayaḥ ca
gacchantu vaḥ śamam ananta-sukhāni samyak
āyāntu nitya-udita janatā bhavantu rāṣṭre
sthirāḥ ca vilasantu sadā eva lakṣmyaḥ
53. vaḥ sarva-āpadaḥ sakala-duṣkṛta-dṛṣṭayaḥ
ca śamam gacchantu ananta-sukhāni samyak
āyāntu janatā nitya-udita bhavantu rāṣṭre
lakṣmyaḥ sthirāḥ ca sadā eva vilasantu
53. May all calamities and malicious influences depart from you and be pacified, and may infinite joys properly come to you. May the people always be cheerful, and may prosperities (Lakṣmī) always flourish steadily in the kingdom.
