सर्वे बभूवुस्तत्रस्था विस्मयोत्फुल्ललोचनाः ।
भिन्नाम्बरा देहरुहैर्गिरः श्रोतुमिवोद्धुरैः ॥ २ ॥
sarve babhūvustatrasthā vismayotphullalocanāḥ ,
bhinnāmbarā deharuhairgiraḥ śrotumivoddhuraiḥ 2
2. sarve babhūvuḥ tatra-sthāḥ vismaya-utphulla-locanāḥ

2. All those present became wide-eyed with astonishment. Their garments were torn by their body hairs standing erect, as if those hairs were straining to hear the words.
विरागवासनापास्तसमस्तभववासनाः ।
मुहूर्तममृताम्भोधिवीचीविलुलिता इव ॥ ३ ॥
virāgavāsanāpāstasamastabhavavāsanāḥ ,
muhūrtamamṛtāmbhodhivīcīvilulitā iva 3
3. virāga-vāsanā-ap-āsta-samasta-bhava-vāsanāḥ
muhūrtam amṛta-ambhodhi-vīcī-vilulitāḥ iva
3. (te) virāga-vāsanā-ap-āsta-samasta-bhava-vāsanāḥ (santoḥ)
muhūrtam amṛta-ambhodhi-vīcī-vilulitāḥ iva (babhūvuḥ)
3. Their worldly desires completely eradicated by the inclination towards detachment (virāga), they were for a moment, as if tossed about by the waves of an ocean of nectar.
ता गिरो रामभद्रस्य तस्य चित्रार्पितैरिव ।
संश्रुताः श्रृणुकैरन्तरानन्दपदपीवरैः ॥ ४ ॥
tā giro rāmabhadrasya tasya citrārpitairiva ,
saṃśrutāḥ śrṛṇukairantarānandapadapīvaraiḥ 4
4. tāḥ giraḥ rāmabhadrāsya tasya citra-arpitaiḥ iva

4. Those words of the blessed Rāma were heard by the listeners, who were as if fixed in a painting, their inner bliss having greatly intensified.
वसिष्ठविश्वामित्राद्यैर्मुनिभिः संसदि स्थितैः ।
जयन्तधृष्टिप्रमुखैर्मन्त्रिभिर्मन्त्रकोविदैः ॥ ५ ॥
vasiṣṭhaviśvāmitrādyairmunibhiḥ saṃsadi sthitaiḥ ,
jayantadhṛṣṭipramukhairmantribhirmantrakovidaiḥ 5
5. vasiṣṭha-viśvāmitra-ādyaiḥ munibhiḥ saṃsadi sthitaiḥ
jayanta-dhṛṣṭi-pramukhaiḥ mantribhiḥ mantra-kovidaiḥ
5. (tāḥ giraḥ) saṃsadi sthitaiḥ vasiṣṭha-viśvāmitra-ādyaiḥ munibhiḥ,
(tathā) jayanta-dhṛṣṭi-pramukhaiḥ mantra-kovidaiḥ mantribhiḥ (ca saṃśrutāḥ)
5. by the sages, including Vasiṣṭha and Viśvāmitra, who were present in the assembly; and by the ministers, led by Jayanta and Dhṛṣṭi, who were experts in counsel.
नृपैर्दशरथप्रख्यैः पौरैः पारशवादिभिः ।
सामन्तै राजपुत्रैश्च ब्राह्मणैर्ब्रह्मवादिभिः ॥ ६ ॥
nṛpairdaśarathaprakhyaiḥ pauraiḥ pāraśavādibhiḥ ,
sāmantai rājaputraiśca brāhmaṇairbrahmavādibhiḥ 6
6. nṛpaiḥ daśarathaprakhyaiḥ pauraiḥ pāraśavādibhiḥ
sāmantaiḥ rājaputraiḥ ca brāhmaṇaiḥ brahmavādibhiḥ
6. nṛpaiḥ daśarathaprakhyaiḥ pauraiḥ pāraśavādibhiḥ
sāmantaiḥ rājaputraiḥ ca brāhmaṇaiḥ brahmavādibhiḥ
6. By kings resembling Daśaratha, by citizens including *pāraśavas* and others, by feudatories, by princes, and by Brahmins who are expounding on the Absolute Truth (brahman).
तथा भृत्यैऽरमात्यैश्च पञ्जरस्थैश्च पक्षिभिः ।
क्रीडामृगैर्गतस्पन्दैस्तुरंगैस्त्यक्तचर्वणैः ॥ ७ ॥
tathā bhṛtyai'ramātyaiśca pañjarasthaiśca pakṣibhiḥ ,
krīḍāmṛgairgataspandaisturaṃgaistyaktacarvaṇaiḥ 7
7. tathā bhṛtyaiḥ amātyaiḥ ca pañjarasthaiḥ ca pakṣibhiḥ
krīḍāmṛgaiḥ gataspandaiḥ turaṅgaiḥ tyaktacarvaṇaiḥ
7. tathā bhṛtyaiḥ amātyaiḥ ca pañjarasthaiḥ ca pakṣibhiḥ
krīḍāmṛgaiḥ gataspandaiḥ turaṅgaiḥ tyaktacarvaṇaiḥ
7. Similarly, by servants and ministers; and by caged birds; by pet animals whose movements had ceased, and by horses that had stopped chewing.
कौसल्याप्रमुखैश्चैव निजवातायनस्थितैः ।
संशान्तभूषणारावैरस्पन्दैर्वनितागणैः ॥ ८ ॥
kausalyāpramukhaiścaiva nijavātāyanasthitaiḥ ,
saṃśāntabhūṣaṇārāvairaspandairvanitāgaṇaiḥ 8
8. kausalyāpramukhaiḥ ca eva nijavātāyanasthitaiḥ
saṃśāntabhūṣaṇārāvaiḥ aspandaiḥ vanitāgaṇaiḥ
8. ca eva vanitāgaṇaiḥ kausalyāpramukhaiḥ
nijavātāyanasthitaiḥ saṃśāntabhūṣaṇārāvaiḥ aspandaiḥ
8. And indeed, by groups of women, led by Kausalya and others, standing by their own windows, with the sound of their ornaments completely hushed, and motionless.
उद्यानवल्लीनिलयैर्विटङ्कनिलयैरपि ।
अक्षुब्धपक्षततिभिर्विहङ्गैर्विरतारवैः ॥ ९ ॥
udyānavallīnilayairviṭaṅkanilayairapi ,
akṣubdhapakṣatatibhirvihaṅgairviratāravaiḥ 9
9. udyānavallīnilayaiḥ viṭaṅkanilayaiḥ api
akṣubdhapakṣatatibhiḥ vihaṅgaiḥ viratārāvaiḥ
9. vihaṅgaiḥ udyānavallīnilayaiḥ viṭaṅkanilayaiḥ
api akṣubdhapakṣatatibhiḥ viratārāvaiḥ
9. And by birds, whose homes were in garden creepers and in decorative niches, whose wing movements were still, and whose calls had ceased.
सिद्धैर्नभश्चरैश्चैव तथा गन्धर्वकिन्नरैः ।
नारदव्यासपुलहप्रमुखैर्मुनिपुङ्गवैः ॥ १० ॥
siddhairnabhaścaraiścaiva tathā gandharvakinnaraiḥ ,
nāradavyāsapulahapramukhairmunipuṅgavaiḥ 10
10. siddhaiḥ nabhaścaraiḥ ca eva tathā gandharvakinnaraiḥ
nāradavyāsapulahapramukhaiḥ munipuṅgavaiḥ
10. siddhaiḥ nabhaścaraiḥ ca eva tathā gandharvakinnaraiḥ
nāradavyāsapulahapramukhaiḥ munipuṅgavaiḥ
10. By the Siddhas, the sky-dwellers, and similarly by the Gandharvas and Kinnaras, and by the foremost sages (munipuṅgavaiḥ), including Narada, Vyasa, and Pulaha.
अन्यैश्च देवदेवेशविद्याधरमहोरगैः ।
रामस्य ता विचित्रार्था महोदारा गिरः श्रुताः ॥ ११ ॥
anyaiśca devadeveśavidyādharamahoragaiḥ ,
rāmasya tā vicitrārthā mahodārā giraḥ śrutāḥ 11
11. anyaiḥ ca devadeveśavidyādharamahoragaiḥ
rāmasya tāḥ vicitrārthāḥ mahodārāḥ giraḥ śrutāḥ
11. rāmasya tāḥ vicitrārthāḥ mahodārāḥ giraḥ anyaiḥ
ca devadeveśavidyādharamahoragaiḥ śrutāḥ
11. And by others, including the Devas, the lords of Devas, the Vidyadharas, and the great serpents, those wonderfully meaningful and exceedingly noble words of Rama were heard.
अथ तूष्णीं स्थितवति रामे राजीवलोचने ।
तस्मिन्रघुकुलाकाशशशाङ्के शशिसुन्दरे ॥ १२ ॥
atha tūṣṇīṃ sthitavati rāme rājīvalocane ,
tasminraghukulākāśaśaśāṅke śaśisundare 12
12. atha tūṣṇīm sthitavati rāme rājīvalocane
tasmin raghukulākāśaśaśāṅke śasisundare
12. atha rājīvalocane rāme tūṣṇīm sthitavati,
raghukulākāśaśaśāṅke śasisundare tasmin
12. Then, when Rama, the lotus-eyed, had fallen silent, that very Rama, who was like the moon in the sky of Raghu's lineage and as beautiful as the moon (śasi-sundara)...
साधुवादगिरा सार्धं सिद्धसार्थसमीरिता ।
वितानकसमा व्योम्नः पौष्पी वृष्टिः पपात ह ॥ १३ ॥
sādhuvādagirā sārdhaṃ siddhasārthasamīritā ,
vitānakasamā vyomnaḥ pauṣpī vṛṣṭiḥ papāta ha 13
13. sādhuvādāgirā sārdham siddhasārthasamīritā
vitānakasamā vyomnaḥ pauṣpī vṛṣṭiḥ papāta ha
13. vyomnaḥ sādhuvādāgirā sārdham siddhasārthasamīritā
vitānakasamā pauṣpī vṛṣṭiḥ papāta ha
13. Then, along with words of approval (sādhuvāda), which were uttered by hosts of Siddhas, a shower of flowers, resembling a canopy, fell from the sky.
मन्दारकोशविश्रान्तभ्रमरद्वन्द्वनादिनी ।
मधुरामोदसौन्दर्यमुदितोन्मदमानवा ॥ १४ ॥

14. She whose sound is like the humming of pairs of bees resting in the calyxes of Mandāra flowers, and who delights joyous, intoxicated people with the beauty of her sweet aroma.
व्योमवातविनुन्नेव तारकाणां परम्परा ।
पतितेव धरापीठे स्वर्गस्त्रीहसितच्छटा ॥ १५ ॥
vyomavātavinunneva tārakāṇāṃ paramparā ,
patiteva dharāpīṭhe svargastrīhasitacchaṭā 15
15. vyomavātavinunnā iva tārakāṇām paramparā
patitā iva dharāpīṭhe svargastrīhasitacchaṭā
15. tārakāṇām paramparā vyomavātavinunnā iva
svargastrīhasitacchaṭā dharāpīṭhe patitā iva
15. It is like a cascade of stars, as if driven by the winds of the sky, or a burst of laughter from heavenly women, as if fallen upon the surface of the earth.
वृष्यमूककचन्मेघलवावलिरिव च्युता ।
हैयंगवीनपिण्डानामीरितेव परम्परा ॥ १६ ॥
vṛṣyamūkakacanmeghalavāvaliriva cyutā ,
haiyaṃgavīnapiṇḍānāmīriteva paramparā 16
16. vṛṣyamūkakacat meghalavāvaliḥ iva cyutā
haiyaṅgavīnapiṇḍānām īritā iva paramparā
16. cyutā vṛṣyamūkakacat meghalavāvaliḥ iva
haiyaṅgavīnapiṇḍānām īritā paramparā iva
16. It is like a fallen line of cloud-fragments, murmuring softly with rain, or a continuous succession of fresh butter balls, as if sent forth.
हिमवृष्टिरिवोदारा मुक्ताहारचयोपमा ।
ऐन्दवी रश्मिमालेव क्षीरोर्मीणामिवाततिः ॥ १७ ॥
himavṛṣṭirivodārā muktāhāracayopamā ,
aindavī raśmimāleva kṣīrormīṇāmivātatiḥ 17
17. himavṛṣṭiḥ iva udārā muktāhāracayopamā
aindavī raśmimālā iva kṣīrormīṇām iva ātatiḥ
17. udārā himavṛṣṭiḥ iva muktāhāracayopamā
aindavī raśmimālā iva kṣīrormīṇām ātatiḥ iva
17. It is like an abundant fall of snow or hail, resembling a collection of pearl necklaces, or like a garland of lunar rays, or even a multitude of waves of milk.
किञ्जल्काम्भोजवलिता भ्रमद्भृङ्गकदम्बका ।
सीत्कारगायदामोदिमधुरानिललोलिता ॥ १८ ॥
kiñjalkāmbhojavalitā bhramadbhṛṅgakadambakā ,
sītkāragāyadāmodimadhurānilalolitā 18
18. kiñjalkāmbhojavalitā bhramadbhṛṅgakadambakā

18. It was adorned with lotuses revealing their filaments, filled with swarms of buzzing bees, and gently swayed by sweet, fragrant breezes that seemed to sing with a soft, sighing sound.
प्रभ्रमत्केतकीव्यूहा प्रस्फुरत्कैरवोत्करा ।
प्रपतत्कुन्दवलया चलत्कुवलयालया ॥ १९ ॥

19. It was characterized by extensive arrays of fluttering screwpine flowers, masses of intensely blooming white water lilies, circles of falling jasmine flowers, and swaying beds of blue water lilies.
आपूरिताङ्गणरसा गृहाच्छादनचत्वरा ।
उद्ग्रीवपुरवास्तव्यनरनारीविलोकिता ॥ २० ॥
āpūritāṅgaṇarasā gṛhācchādanacatvarā ,
udgrīvapuravāstavyanaranārīvilokitā 20

20. The courtyards were filled with water, and the roofs of houses and open spaces were covered. This spectacle was observed by the men and women residents of the city, who craned their necks.
निरभ्रोत्पलसंकाशव्योमवृष्टिरनाकुला ।
अदृष्टपूर्वा सर्वस्य जनस्य जनितस्मया ॥ २१ ॥
nirabhrotpalasaṃkāśavyomavṛṣṭiranākulā ,
adṛṣṭapūrvā sarvasya janasya janitasmayā 21
21. nirabhrotpalasaṃkāśavyomavṛṣṭiḥ anākulā
adṛṣṭapūrvā sarvasya janasya janitasmayā
21. nirabhrotpalasaṃkāśavyomavṛṣṭiḥ anākulā
adṛṣṭapūrvā sarvasya janasya janitasmayā
21. This was an unperturbed rain, originating from a cloudless sky and resembling blue lotuses. It was an unprecedented sight for everyone and generated great astonishment.
अदृश्याम्बरसिद्धौघकरोत्करसमीरिता ।
सा मुहूर्तचतुर्भागं पुष्पवृष्टिः पपात ह ॥ २२ ॥
adṛśyāmbarasiddhaughakarotkarasamīritā ,
sā muhūrtacaturbhāgaṃ puṣpavṛṣṭiḥ papāta ha 22
22. adṛśyāmbarasiddhaughakarotkarasamīritā sā
muhūrtacaturthabhāgaṃ puṣpavṛṣṭiḥ papāta ha
22. adṛśyāmbarasiddhaughakarotkarasamīritā sā
puṣpavṛṣṭiḥ muhūrtacaturthabhāgaṃ papāta ha
22. That shower of flowers, impelled by the multitude of hands of the hosts of perfected beings (siddhas) in the invisible sky, indeed fell for a quarter of a muhūrta.
आपूरितसभालोके शान्ते कुसुमवर्षणे ।
इमं सिद्धगणालापं शुश्रुवुस्ते सभागताः ॥ २३ ॥
āpūritasabhāloke śānte kusumavarṣaṇe ,
imaṃ siddhagaṇālāpaṃ śuśruvuste sabhāgatāḥ 23
23. āpūritasabhāloke śānte kusumavarṣaṇe imaṃ
siddhagaṇālāpaṃ śuśruvuḥ te sabhāgatāḥ
23. āpūritasabhāloke kusumavarṣaṇe śānte te
sabhāgatāḥ imaṃ siddhagaṇālāpaṃ śuśruvuḥ
23. When the assembly hall was filled with onlookers and the flower-rain (kusumavarṣaṇa) subsided, those present in the assembly heard this conversation among the hosts of perfected beings (siddhas).
आकल्पं सिद्धसेनासु भ्रमद्भिरभितोदिवम् ।
अपूर्वमिदमस्माभिः श्रुतं श्रुतिरसायनम् ॥ २४ ॥
ākalpaṃ siddhasenāsu bhramadbhirabhitodivam ,
apūrvamidamasmābhiḥ śrutaṃ śrutirasāyanam 24
24. ākalpaṃ siddhasenāsu bhramadbhiḥ abhitaḥ divam
apūrvam idam asmābhiḥ śrutam śrutirasāyanam
24. ākalpaṃ siddhasenāsu abhitaḥ divam bhramadbhiḥ
asmābhiḥ idam apūrvam śrutirasāyanam śrutam
24. This unprecedented, ear-delighting (śrutirasāyana) discourse has been heard by us, who have wandered throughout the sky among the hosts of perfected beings (siddhas) for an entire kalpa (ākalpa).
यदनेन किलोदारमुक्तं रघुकुलेन्दुना ।
वीतरागतया तद्धि वाक्पतेरप्यगोचरम् ॥ २५ ॥
yadanena kilodāramuktaṃ raghukulendunā ,
vītarāgatayā taddhi vākpaterapyagocaram 25
25. yat anena kila udāram uktam raghukulendunā
vītarāgatayā tat hi vākpateḥ api agocaram
25. kila anena raghukulendunā udāram yat uktam
vītarāgatayā tat hi vākpateḥ api agocaram
25. Indeed, that noble utterance by the moon of Raghu's lineage (Rāmachandra), owing to his complete detachment (vītarāgatā), is beyond the grasp even of the lord of speech (Bṛhaspati).
अहो बत महत्पुण्यमद्यास्माभिरिदं श्रुतम् ।
वचो राममुखोद्भूतं महाह्लादकरं धियः ॥ २६ ॥
aho bata mahatpuṇyamadyāsmābhiridaṃ śrutam ,
vaco rāmamukhodbhūtaṃ mahāhlādakaraṃ dhiyaḥ 26
26. aho bata mahat puṇyam adya asmābhiḥ idam śrutam
vacaḥ rāmamukhodbhūtam mahāhlādakaram dhiyaḥ
26. aho bata adya asmābhiḥ idam rāmamukhodbhūtam
dhiyaḥ mahāhlādakaram mahat puṇyam vacaḥ śrutam
26. Oh, what a great blessing (puṇya) it is that we have heard this today! This speech, emanating from Rāma's mouth, brings immense joy to our intellect.
उपशमामृतसुन्दरमादरा दधिगतोत्तमतापदमेष यत् ।
कथितवानुचितं रघुनन्दनः सपदि तेन वयं प्रतिबोधिताः ॥ २७ ॥
upaśamāmṛtasundaramādarā dadhigatottamatāpadameṣa yat ,
kathitavānucitaṃ raghunandanaḥ sapadi tena vayaṃ pratibodhitāḥ 27
27. upaśamāmṛtasundaram ādarāt adhigatottamatāpadam eṣa yat
kathitavān ucitam raghunandanaḥ sapadi tena vayam pratibodhitāḥ
27. eṣa raghunandanaḥ ādarāt yat upaśamāmṛtasundaram adhigatottamatāpadam
ucitam kathitavān tena vayam sapadi pratibodhitāḥ
27. Because of that, Raghu's scion (Raghunandana) spoke appropriately, (uttering words) beautiful with the nectar of tranquility (upaśama) and leading to the attainment of the highest spiritual state. Therefore, we have been immediately enlightened by him.
