अथ राम भुशुण्डोऽसौ न प्रहृष्टो न वक्रधीः ।
सर्वाङ्गसुन्दरः श्यामः प्रावृषीव पयोधरः ॥ १ ॥

bhūśuṇḍaḥ asau na prahṛṣṭaḥ
na vakra dhīḥ | sarvāṅga sundaraḥ
śyāmaḥ prāvṛṣi iva payodharaḥ
1. śrī vasiṣṭhaḥ uvāca atha rāma,
asau bhūśuṇḍaḥ na prahṛṣṭaḥ na vakradhīḥ sarvāṅgasundaraḥ śyāmaḥ prāvṛṣi iva payodharaḥ
1. Śrī Vasiṣṭha said: 'Now, O Rāma, this Bhūśuṇḍa was neither elated nor cunning in mind. He was perfectly beautiful in all his limbs and dark-hued, like a monsoon cloud in the rainy season.'
स्निग्धगम्भीरवचनः स्मितपूर्वाभिभाषणः ।
करस्थबिल्वफलवत्प्रतोलितजगत्त्रयः ॥ २ ॥

karasthabilvaphalavatpratolitajagattrayaḥ 2

2. He whose speech is affectionate and profound, whose conversation is preceded by a smile, and who has measured the three worlds as if they were a bael fruit held in his hand.
तृणवद्दृष्टसकलः प्रमेयीकृतसंसृतिः ।
लोकाजवं जवीभावे दृष्टज्ञानपरावरः ॥ ३ ॥
tṛṇavaddṛṣṭasakalaḥ prameyīkṛtasaṃsṛtiḥ ,
lokājavaṃ javībhāve dṛṣṭajñānaparāvaraḥ 3
3. tṛṇavat dṛṣṭasakalaḥ prameyīkṛtasaṃsṛtiḥ
lokājavam javībhāve dṛṣṭajñānaparāvaraḥ

3. He who sees all things as insignificant as a blade of grass, who has made the cycle of rebirth (saṃsāra) an object of knowledge, who, in his swift perception, understands the inertness of the world, and who has discerned the higher and lower aspects of knowledge.
धीरस्थिरमहाकारो विश्रान्ति गतमन्दरः ।
परिपूर्णमनाः शुद्धः क्षीरार्णव इवागतः ॥ ४ ॥
dhīrasthiramahākāro viśrānti gatamandaraḥ ,
paripūrṇamanāḥ śuddhaḥ kṣīrārṇava ivāgataḥ 4
4. dhīrasthiramahākāraḥ viśrāntim gatamandaraḥ
paripūrṇamanāḥ śuddhaḥ kṣīrārṇavaḥ iva āgataḥ
4. dhīrasthiramahākāraḥ viśrāntim gatamandaraḥ
paripūrṇamanāḥ śuddhaḥ kṣīrārṇavaḥ iva āgataḥ
4. He whose vast form is profound and steadfast, who has surpassed the Mandara mountain in tranquility, whose mind is completely fulfilled and pure, has come forth like the ocean of milk.
परिविश्रान्तधीः शान्तः परमानन्दघूर्णितः ।
आविर्भावतिरोभावतज्ज्ञः संसारजन्मनाम् ॥ ५ ॥
pariviśrāntadhīḥ śāntaḥ paramānandaghūrṇitaḥ ,
āvirbhāvatirobhāvatajjñaḥ saṃsārajanmanām 5
5. pariviśrāntadhīḥ śāntaḥ paramānandaghūrṇitaḥ
āvirbhāvatirobhāvatatjñaḥ saṃsārajjanmanām
5. pariviśrāntadhīḥ śāntaḥ paramānandaghūrṇitaḥ
āvirbhāvatirobhāvatatjñaḥ saṃsārajjanmanām
5. He whose intellect is perfectly at rest, who is peaceful, who is absorbed in supreme bliss, and who understands the appearance and disappearance of beings within the cycle of rebirth (saṃsāra).
सरभसवदनाभिरामरूपः प्रियमधुरोचितगानहृद्यवाक्यः ।
स्वयमिव नवमाश्रितः शरीरं सकलभयापहरं प्रहर्षयुक्तः ॥ ६ ॥
sarabhasavadanābhirāmarūpaḥ priyamadhurocitagānahṛdyavākyaḥ ,
svayamiva navamāśritaḥ śarīraṃ sakalabhayāpaharaṃ praharṣayuktaḥ 6
6. sarabhasavadana-abhirāmarūpaḥ
priyamadhurocitagānahṛdyavākyaḥ
svayam iva navam āśritaḥ śarīram
sakalabhayāpaharam praharṣayuktaḥ
6. sarabhasavadana-abhirāmarūpaḥ
priyamadhurocitagānahṛdyavākyaḥ
praharṣayuktaḥ svayam iva navam
śarīram āśritaḥ sakalabhayāpaharam
6. He, whose face was charming with eager delight, and whose words were captivating due to pleasant, sweet, and appropriate singing, was filled with great joy, as if he himself had assumed a new body, removing all fears.
इदममलगिरा समाह शुद्धममृतमनुज्झितसंभ्रमक्रमेण ।
कथयितुमखिलं निजं स्वरूपं मधुपमिव स्तनितेन मुग्धमेघः ॥ ७ ॥
idamamalagirā samāha śuddhamamṛtamanujjhitasaṃbhramakrameṇa ,
kathayitumakhilaṃ nijaṃ svarūpaṃ madhupamiva stanitena mugdhameghaḥ 7
7. idam amala-girā sam āha śuddham
amṛtam anujjhita-saṃbhrama-krameṇa
kathayitum akhilam nijam svarūpam
madhupam iva stanitena mugdha-meghaḥ
7. mugdhameghaḥ amalagira anujjhita-saṃbhrama-krameṇa sam āha idam śuddham amṛtam,
akhilam nijam svarūpam kathayitum,
madhupam iva stanitena
7. He spoke this pure nectar (amṛta) with clear speech, maintaining an unperturbed and respectful sequence, in order to reveal his entire true nature (svarūpa), just as a charming cloud might speak to a bee with its thunder.
