2. Diverse winds blow, skilled at dislodging the pure bunches of young banana plants, and adorned with flower pollen.
वान्ति वाता वनोद्वान्तविविधामोदमांसलाः ।
पीतघर्मकणाः क्रान्तललनालकलालकाः ॥ ३ ॥
vānti vātā vanodvāntavividhāmodamāṃsalāḥ ,

3. Winds blow, made fragrant and robust by the various scents wafted from the forest, having absorbed drops of sweat, and having passed over the dangling locks of women.
कुलाचलगुहागेहवलनोद्यन्मृगाधिपाः ।
सरन्त्यसुरसंरम्भैर्लवणार्णवमारुताः ॥ ४ ॥

sarantyasurasaṃrambhairlavaṇārṇavamārutāḥ 4

4. The winds from the salty ocean sweep forth with the ferocity of demons, stirring the lords of beasts (lions) to rise and move from their cave-like dwellings in the principal mountains.
तमालतालतरललीलान्दोलनलालिताः ।
अनिलाजलकल्लोलोत्क्रान्तकोमलपल्लवाः ॥ ५ ॥

5. Adorned by the graceful swaying of tamāla and palm trees, and whose tender sprouts are stirred by the wave-like currents of the wind.
ललन्नवलतावान्तपुष्पधूलिविधूसराः ।
सरन्ति मरुतो मन्दमुद्यानेषु नृपा इव ॥ ६ ॥
lalannavalatāvāntapuṣpadhūlividhūsarāḥ ,
saranti maruto mandamudyāneṣu nṛpā iva 6
6. lalannavalatāvāntapuṣpadhūlividhūsarāḥ
saranti marutaḥ mandam udyāneṣu nṛpā iva

6. The winds (marutaḥ), made hazy and grey by the flower pollen scattered from the swaying new creepers, gently (mandam) blow (saranti) in the gardens (udyāneṣu) like kings.
मधुरं वंशविश्रान्तो गातुमेष वनानिलः ।
प्रवृत्तः पाण्डुनगरनारीभिरिव शिक्षितः ॥ ७ ॥
madhuraṃ vaṃśaviśrānto gātumeṣa vanānilaḥ ,
pravṛttaḥ pāṇḍunagaranārībhiriva śikṣitaḥ 7
7. madhuram vaṃśaviśrāntaḥ gātum eṣa vanānilaḥ
pravṛttaḥ pāṇḍunagaranārībhiḥ iva śikṣitaḥ
7. eṣa vanānilaḥ vaṃśaviśrāntaḥ pāṇḍunagaranārībhiḥ
iva śikṣitaḥ madhuram gātum pravṛttaḥ
7. This forest wind (vanānilaḥ), having rested on the bamboo (flutes), has begun (pravṛttaḥ) to sing (gātum) sweetly (madhuram), as if taught (śikṣitaḥ) by the women of Pāṇḍu's city.
निकारः कर्णिकारेण पवनस्य यदा कृतः ।
तदा परिहरन्त्येनं भ्रमरा अपि दूरतः ॥ ८ ॥
nikāraḥ karṇikāreṇa pavanasya yadā kṛtaḥ ,
tadā pariharantyenaṃ bhramarā api dūrataḥ 8
8. nikāraḥ karṇikāreṇa pavanasya yadā kṛtaḥ
tadā pariharanti enam bhramarāḥ api dūrataḥ
8. yadā karṇikāreṇa nikāraḥ pavanasya kṛtaḥ
tadā bhramarāḥ api enam dūrataḥ pariharanti
8. When an insult (nikāraḥ) is inflicted by the karṇikāra tree upon the wind (pavanasya), then even bees (bhramarāḥ api) shun (pariharanti) it (enam) from afar (dūrataḥ).
न ददाति फलं किंचिदर्थिने न च पल्लवम् ।
तालः स्तम्भतयाऽऽरम्भं ह्यरूपैव विनाऽऽकृतिः ॥ ९ ॥
na dadāti phalaṃ kiṃcidarthine na ca pallavam ,
tālaḥ stambhatayā''rambhaṃ hyarūpaiva vinā''kṛtiḥ 9
9. na dadāti phalam kiṃcit arthine na ca pallavam
tālaḥ stambhatayā ārambham hi arūpā eva vinā ākṛtiḥ
9. tālaḥ arthine kiṃcit phalam ca pallavam na dadāti.
hi ārambham stambhatayā (saḥ) arūpā eva vinā ākṛtiḥ.
9. The palm tree gives no fruit, nor even a leaf, to a supplicant. Indeed, in its early stage, it is merely a pillar, formless and without a distinct shape.
राग एव हि शोभायै निर्गुणानां जडात्मनाम् ।
राजेव राजते राजन्रागेणैवैष किंशुकः ॥ १० ॥
rāga eva hi śobhāyai nirguṇānāṃ jaḍātmanām ,
rājeva rājate rājanrāgeṇaivaiṣa kiṃśukaḥ 10
10. rāgaḥ eva hi śobhāyai nirguṇānām jaḍātmanām
rājā iva rājate rājan rāgeṇa eva eṣaḥ kiṃśukaḥ
10. hi nirguṇānām jaḍātmanām śobhāyai rāgaḥ eva (asti).
rājan,
eṣaḥ kiṃśukaḥ rājā iva rāgeṇa eva rājate.
10. Indeed, for those devoid of inherent qualities and dull-natured, it is only color (rāga) that brings beauty. O King, this kimśuka tree shines splendidly solely due to its color (rāga), just as a king does.
आगच्छ कर्णिकारोऽयं विकारस्यैव भाजनम् ।
निरामोदः किमेतेन निर्गुणेनेव जन्तुना ॥ ११ ॥
āgaccha karṇikāro'yaṃ vikārasyaiva bhājanam ,
nirāmodaḥ kimetena nirguṇeneva jantunā 11
11. āgaccha karṇikāraḥ ayam vikārasya eva bhājanam
nirāmodaḥ kim etena nirguṇena iva jantunā
11. āgaccha,
ayam karṇikāraḥ vikārasya eva bhājanam.
nirāmodaḥ etena kim nirguṇena iva jantunā.
11. Behold, this karṇikāra tree is merely a vessel of external show. Being without fragrance, what use is it, just like a creature (jantu) devoid of good qualities (guṇa)?
विलोलमञ्जरीजालतडित्सङ्गस्थितोऽसितः ।
चातकस्याम्बुदभ्रान्तिं तमालः कुरुते मुधा ॥ १२ ॥
vilolamañjarījālataḍitsaṅgasthito'sitaḥ ,
cātakasyāmbudabhrāntiṃ tamālaḥ kurute mudhā 12
12. vilolamañjarījālataḍitsangasthitaḥ asitaḥ
cātakasya ambudabhrāntim tamālaḥ kurute mudhā
12. asitaḥ vilolamañjarījālataḍitsangasthitaḥ tamālaḥ cātakasya ambudabhrāntim mudhā kurute.
12. The dark tamāla tree, with its swaying clusters of blossoms that appear like flashes of lightning, uselessly creates the delusion of a rain cloud for the cātaka bird.
पत्राला घनसंघाताः सच्छायावृतभूभृतः ।
गुणानां महतां योग्या वंशा वंशा इवोन्नताः ॥ १३ ॥
patrālā ghanasaṃghātāḥ sacchāyāvṛtabhūbhṛtaḥ ,
guṇānāṃ mahatāṃ yogyā vaṃśā vaṃśā ivonnatāḥ 13
13. patrālāḥ ghana-saṃghātāḥ sat-chāyā-āvṛta-bhūbhṛtaḥ
guṇānām mahatām yogyāḥ vaṃśāḥ vaṃśāḥ iva unnatāḥ
13. patrālāḥ ghana-saṃghātāḥ sat-chāyā-āvṛta-bhūbhṛtaḥ
guṇānām mahatām yogyāḥ vaṃśāḥ vaṃśāḥ iva unnatāḥ
13. The bamboos, thick with leaves and forming dense clusters, covering the mountains with their pleasant shade, are worthy of great virtues and are as exalted as noble families.
हेमसान्वासनस्थोऽग्र्यो वातव्याधितटोऽम्बुदः ।
तडित्पीताम्बरं धत्ते क्षुब्धं हरिरिवोद्भवः ॥ १४ ॥
hemasānvāsanastho'gryo vātavyādhitaṭo'mbudaḥ ,
taḍitpītāmbaraṃ dhatte kṣubdhaṃ haririvodbhavaḥ 14
14. hema-sānu-āsana-asthaḥ agryaḥ vāta-vyādhi-taṭaḥ ambudaḥ
taḍit-pīta-ambaram dhatte kṣubdham hariḥ iva udbhavaḥ
14. hema-sānu-āsana-asthaḥ agryaḥ vāta-vyādhi-taṭaḥ ambudaḥ
taḍit-pīta-ambaram dhatte kṣubdham hariḥ iva udbhavaḥ
14. The foremost cloud, resting on a golden mountain peak and having its sides agitated by the wind, bears lightning as a flickering yellow garment, just as the self-manifested Hari (Vishnu) wears an agitated yellow garment.
प्रवेशनिर्गमव्यग्रतरत्खगशिलीमुखः ।
प्रफुल्लकिंशुको भाति वीरो रक्त इवासृजा ॥ १५ ॥
praveśanirgamavyagrataratkhagaśilīmukhaḥ ,
praphullakiṃśuko bhāti vīro rakta ivāsṛjā 15
15. praveśa-nirgama-vyagra-tarat-khaga-śilīmukhaḥ
praphulla-kiṃśukaḥ bhāti vīraḥ raktaḥ iva asṛjā
15. praveśa-nirgama-vyagra-tarat-khaga-śilīmukhaḥ
praphulla-kiṃśukaḥ bhāti vīraḥ raktaḥ iva asṛjā
15. The fully bloomed kiṃśuka tree, bustling with swiftly moving birds and bees busy entering and exiting, shines like a hero (vīra) red with blood.
मन्दारमञ्जरीपुञ्जपिञ्जराम्भोदमन्दिरे ।
महेन्द्रमस्तके मत्ताः सुप्ता गन्धर्वकामिनः ॥ १६ ॥
mandāramañjarīpuñjapiñjarāmbhodamandire ,
mahendramastake mattāḥ suptā gandharvakāminaḥ 16
16. mandāra-mañjarī-puñja-piñjara-ambhoda-mandire
mahendra-mastake mattāḥ suptāḥ gandharva-kāminaḥ
16. mandāra-mañjarī-puñja-piñjara-ambhoda-mandire
mahendra-mastake mattāḥ suptāḥ gandharva-kāminaḥ
16. On the summit of Mount Mahendra, in a cloud-dwelling made reddish-yellow by clusters of mandāra blossoms, the intoxicated and sleeping amorous celestial musicians (Gandharvas) reside.
कल्पद्रुमवनच्छाया विश्रान्ता विततान्विताः ।
पश्य पार्थिव गायन्ति सिद्धविद्याधराध्वगाः ॥ १७ ॥
kalpadrumavanacchāyā viśrāntā vitatānvitāḥ ,
paśya pārthiva gāyanti siddhavidyādharādhvagāḥ 17
17. kalpadrumavanacchāyā viśrāntāḥ vitata anvitāḥ
paśya pārthiva gāyanti siddhavidyādharādhvagāḥ
17. pārthiva paśya kalpadrumavanacchāyā
siddhavidyādharādhvagāḥ viśrāntāḥ vitata anvitāḥ gāyanti
17. O King, behold! The Siddhas, Vidyādharas, and other travelers, having rested and being widespread, are singing in the shade of the wish-fulfilling tree forests.
पश्य कल्पद्रुमस्यास्य पल्लवे पल्लवे वने ।
विश्रान्ताः सुरसुन्दर्यो गायन्ति च हसन्ति च ॥ १८ ॥
paśya kalpadrumasyāsya pallave pallave vane ,
viśrāntāḥ surasundaryo gāyanti ca hasanti ca 18
18. paśya kalpadrumasya asya pallave pallave vane
viśrāntāḥ surasundaryaḥ gāyanti ca hasanti ca
18. paśya asya kalpadrumasya vane pallave pallave
viśrāntāḥ surasundaryaḥ gāyanti ca hasanti ca
18. Behold, in this forest, on every leaf of this wish-fulfilling tree, the celestial beauties, having rested, are singing and laughing.
मन्दिरं मन्दपालस्य मन्दरे मृदुमन्दिरे ।
मुनेरिदमुदारस्य भार्या सा यस्य पक्षिणी ॥ १९ ॥
mandiraṃ mandapālasya mandare mṛdumandire ,
muneridamudārasya bhāryā sā yasya pakṣiṇī 19
19. mandiram mandapālasya mandare mṛdumandire
muneḥ idam udārasya bhāryā sā yasya pakṣiṇī
19. idam mandare mṛdumandire mandiram udārasya muneḥ mandapālasya (asti),
yasya bhāryā sā pakṣiṇī
19. This gentle dwelling on Mount Mandara belongs to the noble sage (muni) Mandapāla, whose wife is a bird.
अन्योन्यामतसिंहेभनकुलोरगकेलिकाम् ।
पश्य मुन्याश्रमश्रेणिं सर्वर्तुकुसुमद्रुमाम् ॥ २० ॥
anyonyāmatasiṃhebhanakuloragakelikām ,
paśya munyāśramaśreṇiṃ sarvartukusumadrumām 20
20. paśya anyonyā amata siṃha ibha nakula uraga
kelikām muni āśrama śreṇim sarva ṛtu kusuma drumām

kelikām sarva ṛtu kusuma drumām muni āśrama śreṇim
20. Behold, the row of sages' (muni) hermitages (āśrama), where lions, elephants, mongooses, and snakes play together without mutual harm, and which possesses trees blossoming with flowers in all seasons.
विद्रुमद्रुममिश्राणामम्भोधितटवीरुधाम् ।
बिम्बितार्काः कचन्त्येते पल्लवेषूदबिन्दवः ॥ २१ ॥
vidrumadrumamiśrāṇāmambhodhitaṭavīrudhām ,
bimbitārkāḥ kacantyete pallaveṣūdabindavaḥ 21
21. vidruma-druma-miśrāṇām ambhodhi-taṭa-vīrudhām
bimbita-arkāḥ kacanti ete pallaveṣu uda-bindavaḥ
21. ete uda-bindavaḥ bimbita-arkāḥ vidruma-druma-miśrāṇām
ambhodhi-taṭa-vīrudhām pallaveṣu kacanti
21. These water drops, reflecting the suns, shine on the young leaves of the shore creepers, which are intermingled with coral trees.
वीचयो रत्नमाणिक्यपदेष्वावर्तवृत्तिभिः ।
विलसन्ति विलासिन्यो वक्षःस्विव विलासिनाम् ॥ २२ ॥
vīcayo ratnamāṇikyapadeṣvāvartavṛttibhiḥ ,
vilasanti vilāsinyo vakṣaḥsviva vilāsinām 22
22. vīcayaḥ ratna-māṇikya-padeṣu āvarta-vṛttibhiḥ
vilasanti vilāsinyaḥ vakṣaḥsu iva vilāsinām
22. vīcayaḥ āvarta-vṛttibhiḥ ratna-māṇikya-padeṣu vilasanti,
iva vilāsinyaḥ vilāsinām vakṣaḥsu
22. The waves, with their swirling patterns, gleam on the steps adorned with gems and rubies, just as beautiful women would recline on the chests of their lovers.
नागलोकेन्द्रलोकस्त्रीगमनागमनोद्भवः ।
दिव्यो भूषणझांकारः श्रूयते नभसः श्रृणु ॥ २३ ॥
nāgalokendralokastrīgamanāgamanodbhavaḥ ,
divyo bhūṣaṇajhāṃkāraḥ śrūyate nabhasaḥ śrṛṇu 23
23. nāga-loka-indra-loka-strī-gamanāgamanodbhavaḥ
divyaḥ bhūṣaṇa-jhāṅkāraḥ śrūyate nabhasaḥ śṛṇu
23. śṛṇu! nabhasaḥ divyaḥ bhūṣaṇa-jhāṅkāraḥ
nāga-loka-indra-loka-strī-gamanāgamanodbhavaḥ śrūyate
23. Listen! From the sky is heard a divine jingle of ornaments, born from the coming and going of women from the Naga realm and Indra's realm.
श्रवणोपान्तविभ्रष्टमदमत्तालिनीस्वरैः ।
ऐरावणस्नानभुवो गायन्तीव गुहा गिरेः ॥ २४ ॥
śravaṇopāntavibhraṣṭamadamattālinīsvaraiḥ ,
airāvaṇasnānabhuvo gāyantīva guhā gireḥ 24
24. śravaṇopānta-vibhraṣṭa-mada-matta-alinī-svaraiḥ
airāvaṇa-snāna-bhuvaḥ gāyanti iva guhāḥ gireḥ
24. gireḥ guhāḥ airāvaṇa-snāna-bhuvaḥ
śravaṇopānta-vibhraṣṭa-mada-matta-alinī-svaraiḥ iva gāyanti
24. The caves of the mountain, which serve as the bathing grounds for Airāvaṇa, seem to sing with the sounds of intoxicated female bees that have strayed near the ears.
ह्रसतोऽनुदिनं कृष्णपक्षे कृष्णान्तलेखिकाः ।
दृश्यन्ते कृशगात्रस्य वास्तुकावलयोऽम्बुधेः ॥ २५ ॥
hrasato'nudinaṃ kṛṣṇapakṣe kṛṣṇāntalekhikāḥ ,
dṛśyante kṛśagātrasya vāstukāvalayo'mbudheḥ 25
25. hrasataḥ anudinām kṛṣṇapakṣe kṛṣṇāntalekhikāḥ
dṛśyante kṛśagātrasya vāstukāvalayaḥ ambudheḥ
25. kṛṣṇapakṣe anudinām hrasataḥ kṛśagātrasya
kṛṣṇāntalekhikāḥ ambudheḥ vāstukāvalayaḥ dṛśyante
25. Day by day, as it diminishes in the dark fortnight, dark-edged lines are seen on the slender body (of the moon), resembling circular patches of dark "vāstuka" plants (found) by the ocean.
आमोदगन्धश्वसना सच्छाया शीतलाङ्गिका ।
एकान्तदर्शिताकारा नानाकुसुमपूरिता ॥ २६ ॥
āmodagandhaśvasanā sacchāyā śītalāṅgikā ,
ekāntadarśitākārā nānākusumapūritā 26

26. With fragrant breezes, full of shade, cool-bodied, manifesting a secluded form, and filled with various flowers.
वनविन्यासवसना निर्झरामलहासिनी ।
आस्तीर्णपुष्पास्तरणा धन्या वनविलासिनी ॥ २७ ॥
vanavinyāsavasanā nirjharāmalahāsinī ,
āstīrṇapuṣpāstaraṇā dhanyā vanavilāsinī 27
27. vanavinyāsavasanā nirjharāmalahāsinī
āstīrṇapuṣpāstaraṇā dhanyā vanavilāsinī

āstīrṇapuṣpāstaraṇā dhanyā vanavilāsinī
27. Clothed in the forest's arrangement, with the pure smile of waterfalls, whose couch is strewn with flowers, she is a blessed forest enchantress.
रमन्ते नन्दनोद्याने न तथोदारबुद्धयः ।
यथोपशान्तशब्दासु शुद्धासु वनभूमिषु ॥ २८ ॥
ramante nandanodyāne na tathodārabuddhayaḥ ,
yathopaśāntaśabdāsu śuddhāsu vanabhūmiṣu 28
28. ramante nandanodyāne na tathā udārabuddhayaḥ
yathā upaśāntaśabdāsu śuddhāsu vanabhūmiṣu
28. udārabuddhayaḥ nandanodyāne tathā na ramante
yathā upaśāntaśabdāsu śuddhāsu vanabhūmiṣu ramante
28. Noble-minded persons (udārabuddhayaḥ) do not delight in Nandanodyāna as much as they do in quiet and pure forest lands.
सुविरक्तं मुनेश्चेतो रक्तं च विषयार्थिनः ।
रमयन्ति समं रम्या विजना वनभूमयः ॥ २९ ॥
suviraktaṃ muneśceto raktaṃ ca viṣayārthinaḥ ,
ramayanti samaṃ ramyā vijanā vanabhūmayaḥ 29
29. suviraktam muneḥ ca cetas raktam ca viṣayārthinaḥ
ramayanti samam ramyāḥ vijanāḥ vanabhūmayaḥ
29. ramyāḥ vijanāḥ vanabhūmayaḥ suviraktam muneḥ cetas
ca viṣayārthinaḥ raktam (cetas) samam ramayanti
29. The beautiful, solitary forest lands equally delight the very dispassionate mind of a sage and the mind of one attached to sense objects.
सलिलाधौतवप्राणामम्भोधितटभूभृताम् ।
नूपुरैरिव रत्नौघैः पादा भान्ति ध्वनन्ति च ॥ ३० ॥
salilādhautavaprāṇāmambhodhitaṭabhūbhṛtām ,
nūpurairiva ratnaughaiḥ pādā bhānti dhvananti ca 30

30. salilādhautavaprāṇām ambhodhitaṭabhūbhṛtām pādāḥ
ratnaughaiḥ nūpuraiḥ iva bhānti ca dhvananti
30. The bases of the mountains along the ocean's shore, whose slopes are washed clean by water, shine and resound with abundant jewels, as if adorned with anklets.
पुंनागनगविश्रान्ताः कान्तकाञ्चनकान्तयः ।
हेमचूडाः खगा भान्ति दिवि देवगणा इव ॥ ३१ ॥

31. The birds, perched on punnāga trees, shine with a lovely golden luster and possess golden crests, appearing in the sky like hosts of gods.
भ्रमराम्भोदधूमाढ्याः फुल्लचम्पककाननाः ।
कम्पन्ते पश्य वातेन ज्वलिता इव पर्वताः ॥ ३२ ॥

kampante paśya vātena jvalitā iva parvatāḥ 32

32. Behold! The mountains, rich with blooming champaka forests and swarms of bees resembling clouds of smoke, tremble in the wind as if they were ignited.
कुर्वन्तं करवीराग्रलतान्दोलावदोलकम् ।
कोकिलं कोकिलालिङ्ग्य लोलालापयति प्रियम् ॥ ३३ ॥
kurvantaṃ karavīrāgralatāndolāvadolakam ,
kokilaṃ kokilāliṅgya lolālāpayati priyam 33

33. A female cuckoo (kokilā), having embraced her beloved male cuckoo (kokila), who is playfully swinging on a creeper at the tip of an oleander (karavīra), makes him utter charming coos.
लसत्कलकलारावमेता लावणसैन्धवीः ।
पूर्णास्तटभुवो भूपैः पश्योपायनपाणिभिः ॥ ३४ ॥
lasatkalakalārāvametā lāvaṇasaindhavīḥ ,
pūrṇāstaṭabhuvo bhūpaiḥ paśyopāyanapāṇibhiḥ 34
34. paśya etāḥ lāvaṇasaindhavīḥ lasatkalakalārāvam
pūrṇāḥ taṭabhuvaḥ bhūpaiḥ upāyanapāṇibhiḥ
34. paśya etāḥ lāvaṇasaindhavīḥ lasatkalakalārāvam,
(ca) upāyanapāṇibhiḥ bhūpaiḥ pūrṇāḥ taṭabhuvaḥ
34. Behold! These Sindhu mares (saindhavī), resplendent with their joyful clamor, and these shorelands are full of kings (bhūpa) with hands full of offerings (upāyana).
आ पूर्वादाऽपरस्माल्लवणजलनिधेरोत्तराद्दक्षिणाद्वा देवोदग्राजिशिष्टा इह नरपतयः पादपीठीक्रियन्तां दीयन्तां मण्डलानां दिशि दिशि च यथाशास्त्रमस्त्राण्यवन्या रक्षायै क्षान्तिपूर्वं चिरमतुलबलं शान्तया शासनानि ॥ ३५ ॥ ā pūrvādā'parasmāllavaṇajalanidherottarāddakṣiṇādvā devodagrājiśiṣṭā iha narapatayaḥ pādapīṭhīkriyantāṃ dīyantāṃ maṇḍalānāṃ diśi diśi ca yathāśāstramastrāṇyavanyā rakṣāyai kṣāntipūrvaṃ ciramatulabalaṃ śāntayā śāsanāni ।

आ पूर्वादाऽपरस्माल्लवणजलनिधेरोत्तराद्दक्षिणाद्वा
देवोदग्राजिशिष्टा इह नरपतयः पादपीठीक्रियन्तां दीयन्तां
मण्डलानां दिशि दिशि च यथाशास्त्रमस्त्राण्यवन्या रक्षायै
क्षान्तिपूर्वं चिरमतुलबलं शान्तया शासनानि ॥ ३५ ॥
35. ā pūrvāt ā aparasmāt lavaṇajalanidheḥ uttarāt dakṣiṇāt vā
devodgrājiśiṣṭāḥ iha narapatayaḥ pādapīṭhīkriyantām
dīyantām maṇḍalānām diśi diśi ca yathāśāstram astrāṇi avanyāḥ
rakṣāyai kṣāntipūrvam ciram atulabalam śāntayā śāsanāni
35. ā pūrvāt ā aparasmāt lavaṇajalanidheḥ,
vā uttarāt dakṣiṇāt,
iha devodgrājiśiṣṭāḥ narapatayaḥ pādapīṭhīkriyantām.
ca diśi diśi maṇḍalānām avanyāḥ rakṣāyai yathāśāstram astrāṇi dīyantām.
(tathā) kṣāntipūrvam ciram śāntayā atulabalam śāsanāni (ca dīyantām)
35. From the eastern and western salt oceans, or from the northern and southern (directions), let these kings (narapati) here, who are like gods and have survived great battles, be made into footstools. And in every direction, let weapons (astra) be given to the regions for the earth's protection (rakṣā), according to the sacred texts (śāstra). Let governance (śāsana), peaceful and of immeasurable strength, be established with patience (kṣānti) for a long time.
