सरस्वती तथेत्युक्त्वा तत्रैवान्तर्धिमाययौ ।
प्रभाते पङ्कजैः सार्धं बुबुधे सकलो जनः ॥ १ ॥

1. Śrī Vasiṣṭha said: Having thus spoken "So be it," Sarasvatī instantly disappeared there. In the morning, all the people awoke along with the lotuses.
आलिलिङ्ग च तां लीलां लीला च दयितं क्रमात् ।
पुनःपुनर्महानन्दान्मृतं प्रोज्जीवितं पुनः ॥ २ ॥
āliliṅga ca tāṃ līlāṃ līlā ca dayitaṃ kramāt ,
punaḥpunarmahānandānmṛtaṃ projjīvitaṃ punaḥ 2
2. āliliṅga ca tām līlām līlā ca dayitam kramāt
punaḥ punaḥ mahā-ānandāt mṛtam pra-ujjīvitam punaḥ
2. ca saḥ tām līlām āliliṅga ca līlā kramāt dayitam āliliṅga
punaḥ punaḥ mahā-ānandāt mṛtam punaḥ pra-ujjīvitam (abhavat)
2. And he embraced Līlā, and Līlā in turn embraced her beloved. Due to immense, repeated joy, the dead one was brought back to life again.
तदासीद्राजसदनं मदमन्मथमन्थरम् ।
आनन्दमत्तजनतं वाद्यगेयरवाकुलम् ॥ ३ ॥
tadāsīdrājasadanaṃ madamanmathamantharam ,
ānandamattajanataṃ vādyageyaravākulam 3
3. tadā āsīt rājasadanam madamanmathamantharam
ānandamattajanatam vādyageyaravākulam

3. At that time, the royal palace was languid with passion and desire, filled with people exhilarated by joy, and vibrant with the sounds of instrumental music and songs.
जयमङ्गलपुण्याहघोषघुंघुमघर्घरम् ।
तुष्टपुष्टजनापूर्णं राजलोकवृताङ्गणम् ॥ ४ ॥
jayamaṅgalapuṇyāhaghoṣaghuṃghumaghargharam ,
tuṣṭapuṣṭajanāpūrṇaṃ rājalokavṛtāṅgaṇam 4

4. It was rumbling and humming with the sounds of auspicious victory proclamations, filled with content and prosperous people, and its courtyard was surrounded by royal guests.
सिद्धविद्याधरोन्मुक्तपुष्पवर्षसहस्रभृत् ।
ध्वनन्मृदङ्गमुरजकाहलाशङ्खदुन्दुभि ॥ ५ ॥
siddhavidyādharonmuktapuṣpavarṣasahasrabhṛt ,
dhvananmṛdaṅgamurajakāhalāśaṅkhadundubhi 5

5. It bore countless showers of flowers released by perfected beings (siddhas) and celestial Vidyadharas, and it resounded with the sounds of mṛdaṅga drums, muraja drums, kāhalā trumpets, conch shells, and dundubhi drums.
ऊर्ध्वीकृतबृहद्धस्तहास्तिकस्तनितोत्कटम् ।
उत्तालताण्डवस्त्रैणपूर्णाङ्गणलसद्ध्वनि ॥ ६ ॥

6. The palace was mighty with the trumpeting of elephants that had raised their great trunks high, and it had vibrant sounds from courtyards filled with women performing fierce tāṇḍava dances.
मिथःसंघट्टनिपतज्जनोपायनदन्तुरम् ।
पुष्पशेखरसंभारमयसंसारसुन्दरम् ॥ ७ ॥
mithaḥsaṃghaṭṭanipatajjanopāyanadanturam ,
puṣpaśekharasaṃbhāramayasaṃsārasundaram 7

7. The scene was made prominent by the offerings of people jostling and falling amidst the crowd, and rendered beautiful by an abundance of flower garlands throughout the entire assembly (saṃsāra).
विकीर्णापादितक्षौमं मन्त्रिसामन्तनागरैः ।
स्थूलपद्ममयं व्योम रक्तैस्ताण्डविनीकरैः ॥ ८ ॥
vikīrṇāpāditakṣaumaṃ mantrisāmantanāgaraiḥ ,
sthūlapadmamayaṃ vyoma raktaistāṇḍavinīkaraiḥ 8

8. Ministers, feudatories, and citizens strewed silken garments. The sky appeared to be made of large lotuses, due to the red, dancing rays (of light).
मत्तस्त्रीकन्धरावृत्तलीलान्दोलितकुण्डलम् ।
प्रवृत्तपादसंपातप्रोल्लसत्पुष्पकर्दमम् ॥ ९ ॥

9. It featured earrings playfully swaying on the turned necks of intoxicated women, and a brilliant mire of flowers formed by the constant treading of feet.
पट्टवासःशरन्मेघवितानकवितानकम् ।
वराङ्गनामुखैर्नृत्यच्चन्द्रलक्षगृहाजिरम् ॥ १० ॥
paṭṭavāsaḥśaranmeghavitānakavitānakam ,
varāṅganāmukhairnṛtyaccandralakṣagṛhājiram 10
10. paṭṭavāsaḥśaranmeghavitānakavitānakam
varāṅganāmukhaiḥ nṛtyaccandralakṣagṛhājiram

10. It featured a grand canopy of silk garments resembling autumn clouds, and the courtyard of the house was filled with the dancing faces of beautiful women, appearing like a hundred thousand moons.
परलोकादुपानीता राज्ञी सा पतिरेव च ।
इति निर्वृत्तगाथाभिर्जगुर्देशान्तरे जनाः ॥ ११ ॥
paralokādupānītā rājñī sā patireva ca ,
iti nirvṛttagāthābhirjagurdeśāntare janāḥ 11
11. paralokāt upānītā rājñī sā patiḥ eva ca
iti nirvṛttagāthābhiḥ jaguḥ deśāntare janāḥ
11. deśāntare janāḥ nirvṛttagāthābhiḥ jaguḥ
iti sā rājñī ca patiḥ eva paralokāt upānītā
11. In other lands, people sang with songs of accomplishment, declaring that the queen and her husband had indeed been brought back from the other world.
पद्मो भूमिपतिः श्रुत्वा वृत्तान्तं कथितं मनाक् ।
चक्रे स्नानं समानीतैश्चतुःसागरवारिभिः ॥ १२ ॥
padmo bhūmipatiḥ śrutvā vṛttāntaṃ kathitaṃ manāk ,
cakre snānaṃ samānītaiścatuḥsāgaravāribhiḥ 12
12. padmaḥ bhūmipatiḥ śrutvā vṛttāntaṃ kathitaṃ
manāk cakre snānaṃ samānītaiḥ catuḥsāgaravāribhiḥ
12. bhūmipatiḥ padmaḥ manāk kathitaṃ vṛttāntaṃ śrutvā
samānītaiḥ catuḥsāgaravāribhiḥ snānaṃ cakre
12. Having briefly heard the narrated account, King Padma, the lord of the earth, took a bath with waters gathered from the four oceans.
ततोऽभिषिषिचुर्विप्रा मन्त्रिणो भूभुजश्च तम् ।
लब्धोदयमनन्तेहममरेन्द्रमिवामराः ॥ १३ ॥
tato'bhiṣiṣicurviprā mantriṇo bhūbhujaśca tam ,
labdhodayamanantehamamarendramivāmarāḥ 13
13. tataḥ abhiṣiṣicuḥ viprāḥ mantriṇaḥ bhūbhujaḥ ca
taṃ labdhodayam ananteham amareṇḍram iva amarāḥ
13. tataḥ viprāḥ mantriṇaḥ ca bhūbhujaḥ amarāḥ
amareṇḍram iva labdhodayam ananteham taṃ abhiṣiṣicuḥ
13. Thereupon, Brahmins, ministers, and other rulers consecrated him - who had achieved prosperity and possessed boundless aspirations - just as the immortals consecrate Indra.
लीला लीला च राजा च जीवन्मुक्तमहाधियः ।
रेमिरे पूर्ववृत्तान्तकथनैः सुरतैरिव ॥ १४ ॥
līlā līlā ca rājā ca jīvanmuktamahādhiyaḥ ,
remire pūrvavṛttāntakathanaiḥ suratairiva 14
14. līlā līlā ca rājā ca jīvanmuktamahādhiyaḥ
remire pūrvavṛttāntakathnaiḥ surataiḥ iva
14. līlā ca līlā ca rājā jīvanmuktamahādhiyaḥ
pūrvavṛttāntakathnaiḥ surataiḥ iva remire
14. The queen Līlā, the other Līlā, and the king - all with great intellect, like those liberated while living (jīvanmukta) - delighted in recounting past events as if it were amorous dalliance.
सरस्वत्याः प्रसादेन स्वपौरुषकृतेन तत् ।
प्राप्तं लोकत्रयश्रेयः पद्मेनेति महीभुजा ॥ १५ ॥
sarasvatyāḥ prasādena svapauruṣakṛtena tat ,
prāptaṃ lokatrayaśreyaḥ padmeneti mahībhujā 15
15. sarasvatyāḥ prasādena svapauruṣakṛtena tat
prāptam lokatrayaśreyaḥ padmena iti mahībhuja
15. mahībhuja padmena sarasvatyāḥ prasādena
svapauruṣakṛtena ca tat lokatrayaśreyaḥ prāptam iti
15. Through the grace of Sarasvatī and his own manly effort (pauruṣa), that supreme welfare of the three worlds was attained by King Padma.
स ज्ञप्तिज्ञानसंबुद्धो राजा लीलाद्वयान्वितः ।
चक्रे वर्षायुतान्यष्टौ तत्र राज्यमनिन्दितः ॥ १६ ॥
sa jñaptijñānasaṃbuddho rājā līlādvayānvitaḥ ,
cakre varṣāyutānyaṣṭau tatra rājyamaninditaḥ 16
16. sa jñaptijñānasaṃbuddhaḥ rājā līlādvayānvitaḥ
cakre varṣāyutāni aṣṭau tatra rājyam aninditaḥ
16. sa rājā jñaptijñānasaṃbuddhaḥ līlādvayānvitaḥ
aninditaḥ tatra aṣṭau varṣāyutāni rājyam cakre
16. That king, enlightened by complete knowledge (jñapti-jñāna) and embodying two aspects of divine play (līlā), ruled there, unblemished, for eight tens of thousands of years.
जीवन्मुक्तास्त इत्येवं राज्यं वर्षायुताष्टकम् ।
कृत्वा विदेहमुक्तत्वमासेदुः सिद्धसंविदः ॥ १७ ॥
jīvanmuktāsta ityevaṃ rājyaṃ varṣāyutāṣṭakam ,
kṛtvā videhamuktatvamāseduḥ siddhasaṃvidaḥ 17
17. jīvanmuktāḥ te iti evam rājyam varṣāyutāṣṭakam
kṛtvā videhamuktatvam āseduḥ siddhasaṃvidaḥ
17. jīvanmuktāḥ siddhasaṃvidaḥ te evam varṣāyutāṣṭakam
rājyam kṛtvā videhamuktatvam āseduḥ
17. Having thus ruled for eight tens of thousands of years, those who were liberated while living (jīvanmukta) achieved bodiless liberation (videhamuktatva) with perfected understanding (siddhasaṃvid).
यदुदयविशदं विदग्धमुग्धं समुचितमात्महितं च पेशलं च ।
तदखिलजनतोषदं स्वराज्यं चिरमनुपाल्य सुदंपती विमुक्तौ ॥ १८ ॥
yadudayaviśadaṃ vidagdhamugdhaṃ samucitamātmahitaṃ ca peśalaṃ ca ,
tadakhilajanatoṣadaṃ svarājyaṃ ciramanupālya sudaṃpatī vimuktau 18
18. yat udayaviśadam vidagdhamugdham
samucitam ātmahitam ca peśalam ca
tat akhilajanatoṣadam svarājyam
ciram anupālya sudampatī vimuktau
18. sudampatī,
yat udayaviśadam vidagdhamugdham samucitam ca ātmahitam ca peśalam ca,
tat akhilajanatoṣadam svarājyam ciram anupālya,
vimuktau (abhūtam)
18. Having long governed their kingdom, which was radiant with prosperity, wise and yet innocent, perfectly appropriate, beneficial for their own true self (ātman), and skillful, and which brought satisfaction to all people, the virtuous couple attained liberation (mokṣa).
