मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-8, verse-87

हरिश्चन्द्र उवाच ।
नाहं चण्डालदासत्वमिच्छेयं सुविगर्हितम् ।
वरं सापाग्निना दग्धो न चण्डालवशं गतः ॥८७॥
87. hariścandra uvāca .
nāhaṃ caṇḍāladāsatvamiccheyaṃ suvigarhitam .
varaṃ sāpāgninā dagdho na caṇḍālavaśaṃ gataḥ.
87. hariścandraḥ uvāca na aham caṇḍāla-dāsatvam iccheyam
suvigarhitam varam sāpāgninā dagdhaḥ na caṇḍāla-vaśam gataḥ
87. Harishchandra said: 'I would not desire servitude to an outcaste, which is highly condemned. It is better that I be consumed by a cursed fire than fall under the sway of an outcaste.'
