मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-8, verse-204

यस्याग्रे व्रजतः पूर्वं राजानो भृत्यतां गताः ।
स्वोत्तरीयैरकुर्वन्त नीरजस्कं महीतलम् ॥२०४॥
204. yasyāgre vrajataḥ pūrvaṃ rājāno bhṛtyatāṃ gatāḥ .
svottarīyairakurvanta nīrajaskaṃ mahītalam.

204. Formerly, when he proceeded, kings became his servants, and with their own upper garments, they rendered the ground before him dustless.
