मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-8, verse-15

ब्रह्मस्वहृत्कृमिः पापो भविष्याम्यधमाधमः ।
अथवा प्रेष्यतां यास्ये वरमेवात्मविक्रयः ॥१५॥
15. brahmasvahṛtkṛmiḥ pāpo bhaviṣyāmyadhamādhamaḥ .
athavā preṣyatāṃ yāsye varamevātmavikrayaḥ.
15. brahmasvahṛtkṛmiḥ pāpaḥ bhaviṣyāmi adhamādhamaḥ
athavā preṣyatām yāsye varam eva ātmavikrayaḥ
15. I will become a sinful worm, the lowest of the low, by taking a brahmin's property. Alternatively, I will fall into servitude; indeed, selling myself (ātman) is preferable.
