महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-2, verse-177

संख्याता बहुवृत्तान्ताः श्लोकाग्रं चात्र शस्यते ।
त्रीणि श्लोकसहस्राणि द्वे शते विंशतिस्तथा ।
मुनिना संप्रणीतानि कौरवाणां यशोभृताम् ॥१७७॥
177. saṁkhyātā bahuvṛttāntāḥ ślokāgraṁ cātra śasyate ,
trīṇi ślokasahasrāṇi dve śate viṁśatistathā ,
muninā saṁpraṇītāni kauravāṇāṁ yaśobhṛtām.

177. Many events are enumerated (in this Parva), and the total number of verses in it is proclaimed: three thousand, two hundred and twenty. These (verses) were composed by the sage (Vyāsa) for the glorious Kauravas.
