महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-2, verse-235

यो विद्याच्चतुरो वेदान्साङ्गोपनिषदान्द्विजः ।
न चाख्यानमिदं विद्यान्नैव स स्याद्विचक्षणः ॥२३५॥
235. yo vidyāccaturo vedānsāṅgopaniṣadāndvijaḥ ,
na cākhyānamidaṁ vidyānnaiva sa syādvicakṣaṇaḥ.
235. yaḥ vidyāt caturaḥ vedān sāṅgopaniṣadān dvijaḥ | na
ca ākhyānam idam vidyāt na eva saḥ syāt vicakṣaṇaḥ
235. A brāhmaṇa who knows the four Vedas along with their auxiliary sciences (Aṅgas) and Upaniṣads, but does not know this narrative (Mahābhārata), will certainly not be considered discerning.
