मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-11, verse-36

न वै कन्या न युवतिर्नाल्पविद्यो न बालिशः ।
होता स्यादग्निहोत्रस्य नार्तो नासंस्कृतस्तथा ॥३६॥
36. na vai kanyā na yuvatirnālpavidyo na bāliśaḥ ,
hotā syādagnihotrasya nārto nāsaṁskṛtastathā.
36. na vai kanyā na yuvatiḥ na alpavidyaḥ na bāliśaḥ
hotā syāt agnihotrasya na ārtaḥ na asaṃskṛtaḥ tathā

36. Indeed, neither a maiden, nor a young woman, nor a person with meager knowledge, nor a foolish one, should be the officiant (`hotṛ`) of the (Vedic fire ritual) `agnihotra`. Similarly, neither a distressed person nor an uninitiated one (asaṃskṛta) should be.
