मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-11, verse-198

शरणागतं परित्यज्य वेदं विप्लाव्य च द्विजः ।
संवत्सरं यवाहारस्तत पापमपसेधति ॥१९८॥
198. śaraṇāgataṁ parityajya vedaṁ viplāvya ca dvijaḥ ,
saṁvatsaraṁ yavāhārastat pāpamapasedhati.

saṃvatsaram yavāhāraḥ tataḥ pāpam apasedhati
198. dvijaḥ śaraṇāgatam parityajya ca vedam viplāvya

198. A Brahmin (dvija), having abandoned a refugee and corrupted the *Veda*, expiates that sin by subsisting on barley for a year.
