मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-11, verse-257

महापातकसंयुक्तोऽनुगच्छेद गाः समाहितः ।
अभ्यस्याब्दं पावमानीर्भैक्षाहारो विशुध्यति ॥२५७॥
257. mahāpātakasaṁyukto'nugacched gāḥ samāhitaḥ ,
abhyasyābdaṁ pāvamānīrbhaikṣāhāro viśudhyati.
257. mahāpātaka-saṃyuktaḥ anugacchet gāḥ samāhitaḥ
abhyasya abdam pāvamānīḥ bhaikṣāhāraḥ viśudhyati
257. mahāpātaka-saṃyuktaḥ samāhitaḥ (san) gāḥ anugacchet.
abdam pāvamānīḥ abhyasya,
bhaikṣāhāraḥ (san),
viśudhyati.
257. One who is afflicted by a great sin (mahāpātaka), being self-controlled (samāhita), should follow cows. By assiduously reciting the Pāvamānī verses for a year, while subsisting on alms, one becomes purified.
