The daśā periods of the signs, beginning from the ascendant (lagna), are called Rāśi-Daśā. The amount of time already elapsed in a sign (bhayāta) is to be multiplied by the number of years for a sign (twelve 'suns'), and this product is then to be divided by the full extent of a sign (bhābhoga, i.e., 30 degrees) to get the result (phalam).
