लग्नेशात् केन्द्रकोणस्थे राहौ लग्नं विना स्थिते ।
अष्टोत्तरी दशा विप्र विज्ञेया रौद्रभादितः ॥१७॥

17. O Brahmin (vipra), the Aṣṭottarī planetary period (daśā) system should be understood (vijñeyā) as applicable when the shadowy planet Rahu is situated (sthite) in a quadrant (kendra) or a trine (koṇa) house from the lord of the ascendant, provided Rahu itself is not in the ascendant (lagnaṃ vinā). In this system, the calculation begins from the Raudra (Ārdrā) lunar mansion.
