मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-8, verse-362

नैष चारणदारेषु विधिर्नात्मोपजीविषु ।
सज्जयन्ति हि ते नारीर्निगूढाश्चारयन्ति च ॥३६२॥
362. naiṣa cāraṇadāreṣu vidhirnātmopajīviṣu ,
sajjayanti hi te nārīrnigūḍhāścārayanti ca.
362. na eṣa cāraṇadāreṣu vidhiḥ na ātma-upajīviṣu
sajjayanti hi te nārīḥ nigūḍhāḥ cārayanti ca
362. eṣa vidhiḥ cāraṇadāreṣu na,
ātma-upajīviṣu ca na.
hi te nārīḥ sajjayanti,
nigūḍhāḥ ca cārayanti.
362. This rule does not apply to the wives of bards (cāraṇa) nor to women who support themselves; for they indeed adorn women and cause them to move about secretly.
