मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-8, verse-237

धनुःशतं परीहारो ग्रामस्य स्यात समन्ततः ।
शम्यापातास्त्रयो वाऽपि त्रिगुणो नगरस्य तु ॥२३७॥
237. dhanuḥśataṁ parīhāro grāmasya syāt samantataḥ ,
śamyāpātāstrayo vā'pi triguṇo nagarasya tu.

237. The inviolable perimeter (parihāra) of a village should extend one hundred bow-lengths all around. For a city, it should be three cudgel-throws, or even three times that (distance).
