मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-8, verse-351

नाततायिवधे दोषो हन्तुर्भवति कश्चन ।
प्रकाशं वाऽप्रकाशं वा मन्युस्तं मन्युमृच्छति ॥३५१॥
351. nātatāyivadhe doṣo hanturbhavati kaścana ,
prakāśaṁ vā'prakāśaṁ vā manyustaṁ manyumṛcchati.

prakāśam vā aprakāśam vā manyuḥ tam manyum ṛcchati
351. ātatāyivadhē hantuḥ kaścana doṣaḥ na bhavati

351. There is no fault whatsoever for the slayer in killing an aggressor, whether it is done openly or secretly. The aggressor's own wrath (manyu) rebounds upon him.
