मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-8, verse-296

मनुष्यमारणे क्षिप्रं चौरवत किल्बिषं भवेत ।
प्राणभृत्सु महत्स्वर्धं गोगजोष्ट्रहयादिषु ॥२९६॥
296. manuṣyamāraṇe kṣipraṁ cauravat kilbiṣaṁ bhavet ,
prāṇabhṛtsu mahatsvardhaṁ gogajoṣṭrahayādiṣu.

296. manuṣyamāraṇe kṣipram cauravat kilbiṣam bhavet.
gogajoṣṭrahayādiṣu mahatsu prāṇabhṛtsu (tu) ardham (kilbiṣam bhavet).
296. In the killing of a human, the guilt should quickly be like that of a thief. For large living beings such as cows, elephants, camels, horses, etc., it should be half (the punishment).
