मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-8, verse-202

अथ मूलमनाहार्यं प्रकाशक्रयशोधितः ।
अदण्ड्यो मुच्यते राज्ञा नाष्टिको लभते धनम ॥२०२॥
202. atha mūlamanāhāryaṁ prakāśakrayaśodhitaḥ ,
adaṇḍyo mucyate rājñā nāṣṭiko labhate dhanam.

202. Now, if the principal (stolen property) is not to be confiscated from a buyer who has been cleared by an open purchase, then that buyer is not punishable and is released by the king. However, the owner of the lost property obtains their wealth.
