And in this manner, a great demon named Śatamukha was created by the Creator (Brahmā). By him, for more than a hundred years, a Vedic fire ritual (homa) was performed with his own flesh. To him, the pleased divine (bhagavān) Śaṅkara said, "What shall I do?"
