महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-14, verse-137

परशुस्तीक्ष्णधारश्च दत्तो रामस्य यः पुरा ।
महादेवेन तुष्टेन क्षत्रियाणां क्षयंकरः ।
कार्तवीर्यो हतो येन चक्रवर्ती महामृधे ॥१३७॥
137. paraśustīkṣṇadhāraśca datto rāmasya yaḥ purā ,
mahādevena tuṣṭena kṣatriyāṇāṁ kṣayaṁkaraḥ ,
kārtavīryo hato yena cakravartī mahāmṛdhe.
137. paraśuḥ tīkṣṇadhāraḥ ca dattaḥ
rāmasya yaḥ purā mahādevena tuṣṭena
kṣatriyāṇām kṣayaṃkaraḥ kārtavīryaḥ

cakravartī kārtavīryaḥ mahāmṛdhe hataḥ
137. And the sharp-edged axe, which was given to Rāma previously by the pleased Mahādeva, was the cause of the destruction of the kṣatriyas. By this axe, the emperor Kārtavīrya was slain in a great battle.
