महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-136, verse-13

अमित्रो मित्रतां याति मित्रं चापि प्रदुष्यति ।
सामर्थ्ययोगात्कार्याणां तद्गत्या हि सदा गतिः ॥१३॥
13. amitro mitratāṁ yāti mitraṁ cāpi praduṣyati ,
sāmarthyayogātkāryāṇāṁ tadgatyā hi sadā gatiḥ.

sāmarthyayogāt kāryāṇām tadgatyā hi sadā gatiḥ

13. An enemy can become a friend, and a friend can also turn hostile. This occurs due to the effectiveness (sāmarthya) in the execution of tasks, for their outcome (gati) is indeed always determined by their progression.
