स एवमुक्तः प्रत्युवाच ।
भो जनमेजय पुत्रोऽयं मम सर्प्यां जातः ।
महातपस्वी स्वाध्यायसंपन्नो मत्तपोवीर्यसंभृतो मच्छुक्रं पीतवत्यास्तस्याः कुक्षौ संवृद्धः ।
समर्थोऽयं भवतः सर्वाः पापकृत्याः शमयितुमन्तरेण महादेवकृत्याम् ।

यदेनं कश्चिद्ब्राह्मणः कंचिदर्थमभियाचेत्तं तस्मै दद्यादयम् ।
यद्येतदुत्सहसे ततो नयस्वैनमिति ॥१५॥

15. sa evamuktaḥ pratyuvāca ,
bho janamejaya putro'yaṁ mama sarpyāṁ jātaḥ ,
mahātapasvī svādhyāyasaṁpanno mattapovīryasaṁbhṛto macchukraṁ pītavatyāstasyāḥ kukṣau saṁvṛddhaḥ ,
samartho'yaṁ bhavataḥ sarvāḥ pāpakṛtyāḥ śamayitumantareṇa mahādevakṛtyām ,
asya tvekamupāṁśuvratam ,

sarvāḥ pāpakṛtyāḥ śamayitum antareṇa mahādevakṛtyām asya tu ekam upāṃśuvratam yat enam kaścit
brāhmaṇaḥ kaṃcit artham abhiyācet tam tasmai dadyāt ayam yadi etat utsahaṣe tataḥ nayasva enam iti

15. Thus addressed, he replied, "O Janamejaya, this son of mine was born to a serpent woman. He is a great ascetic, accomplished in Vedic study, sustained by the power of my asceticism, and grew in the womb of her who drank my semen. He is capable of pacifying all your sinful deeds, except for a deed against Mahadeva (Shiva). However, he has one secret vow: if any Brahmin requests something from him, he must give that to him. If you are able to undertake this condition, then take him with you."
