महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-3, verse-136

सोऽपश्यत्पथि नग्नं श्रमणमागच्छन्तं मुहुर्मुहुर्दृश्यमानमदृश्यमानं च ।
अथोत्तङ्कस्ते कुण्डले भूमौ निक्षिप्योदकार्थं प्रचक्रमे ॥१३६॥
136. so'paśyatpathi nagnaṁ śramaṇamāgacchantaṁ muhurmuhurdṛśyamānamadṛśyamānaṁ ca ,
athottaṅkaste kuṇḍale bhūmau nikṣipyodakārthaṁ pracakrame.
136. saḥ apaśyat pathi nagnaṃ śramaṇam
āgacchantam muhuḥ muhuḥ dṛśyamānam
adṛśyamānam ca | atha uttaṅkaḥ te kuṇḍale
bhūmau nikṣipya udaka-artham pracakrame
136. On the path, he saw a naked mendicant, appearing and disappearing repeatedly. Then, Uttanka, placing those two earrings on the ground, proceeded to fetch water.
