महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-81, verse-95

ततो गच्छेन्नरव्याघ्र ब्रह्मणः स्थानमुत्तमम् ।
तत्र वर्णावरः स्नात्वा ब्राह्मण्यं लभते नरः ।
ब्राह्मणश्च विशुद्धात्मा गच्छेत परमां गतिम् ॥९५॥
95. tato gacchennaravyāghra brahmaṇaḥ sthānamuttamam ,
tatra varṇāvaraḥ snātvā brāhmaṇyaṁ labhate naraḥ ,
brāhmaṇaśca viśuddhātmā gaccheta paramāṁ gatim.
95. tataḥ gacchet naravyāghra brahmaṇaḥ
sthānam uttamam tatra varṇāvaraḥ snātvā
brāhmaṇyam labhate naraḥ brāhmaṇaḥ
ca viśuddhātmā gacchet paramām gatim
95. Then, O tiger among men, one should go to the excellent abode of Brahmā. There, a person (nara) of lower caste (varṇāvara) who bathes attains the state of a Brahmin (brāhmaṇya). And a Brahmin (brāhmaṇa) with a purified self (ātman) should attain the highest destination.
