महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-81, verse-135

क्रियामन्त्रविहीनोऽपि तत्र स्नात्वा नरर्षभ ।
चीर्णव्रतो भवेद्विप्रो दृष्टमेतत्पुरातने ॥१३५॥
135. kriyāmantravihīno'pi tatra snātvā nararṣabha ,
cīrṇavrato bhavedvipro dṛṣṭametatpurātane.
135. kriyāmantravihīnaḥ api tatra snātvā nararṣabha
cīrṇavrataḥ bhavet vipraḥ dṛṣṭam etat purātane
135. O best of men, even a person devoid of ritual acts (kriyā) and sacred formulas (mantra), by bathing there, becomes one who has observed vows (vrata) and thus becomes a brahmin. This has been observed in ancient times.
