महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-81, verse-154

आपगायां नरः स्नात्वा अर्चयित्वा महेश्वरम् ।
गाणपत्यमवाप्नोति कुलं चोद्धरते स्वकम् ॥१५४॥
154. āpagāyāṁ naraḥ snātvā arcayitvā maheśvaram ,
gāṇapatyamavāpnoti kulaṁ coddharate svakam.

154. A man, having bathed in the river and worshipped Maheśvara (Shiva), attains the rank of Gaṇapati and also liberates his own family.
