महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-81, verse-85

मृगधूमं ततो गच्छेत्त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतम् ।
तत्र गङ्गाह्रदे स्नात्वा समभ्यर्च्य च मानवः ।
शूलपाणिं महादेवमश्वमेधफलं लभेत् ॥८५॥
85. mṛgadhūmaṁ tato gacchettriṣu lokeṣu viśrutam ,
tatra gaṅgāhrade snātvā samabhyarcya ca mānavaḥ ,
śūlapāṇiṁ mahādevamaśvamedhaphalaṁ labhet.
85. mṛga-dhūmam tataḥ gacchet triṣu lokeṣu
vi-śrutam | tatra gaṅgā-hrade snātvā
sam-abhy-arcya ca mānavaḥ | śūla-pāṇim
mahā-devam aśva-medha-phalam labhet
85. Thereafter, one should proceed to Mṛgadhūma, a place renowned throughout the three worlds. A person who bathes in the Gaṅgā lake there and worships the great god (Mahādeva), Śūlapāṇi, attains the merit of an aśvamedha (horse sacrifice).
