मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-4, verse-28

नवेनानर्चिता ह्यस्य पशुहव्येन चाग्नयः ।
प्राणानेवात्तुमिच्छन्ति नवान्नामिषगर्धिनः ॥२८॥
28. navenānarcitā hyasya paśuhavyena cāgnayaḥ ,
prāṇānevāttumicchanti navānnāmiṣagardhinaḥ.
28. na anarcitā hi asya paśuhavyēna ca agnayaḥ
prāṇān eva āttum icchanti navānnāmiṣagardhinaḥ
28. Indeed, for him whose fires (agnayaḥ) have not been worshipped with new grain (navēna) and animal offerings (paśuhavyēna), the gods (agnayaḥ) desire to consume his vital breaths (prāṇān), as they are greedy for new food and meat (navānnāmiṣagardhinaḥ).
