मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-4, verse-12

संतोषं परमास्थाय सुखार्थी संयतो भवेत ।
संतोषमूलं हि सुखं दुःखमूलं विपर्ययः ॥१२॥
12. saṁtoṣaṁ paramāsthāya sukhārthī saṁyato bhavet ,
saṁtoṣamūlaṁ hi sukhaṁ duḥkhamūlaṁ viparyayaḥ.

12. One who desires happiness should cultivate contentment and self-control. Indeed, contentment is the root of happiness, and its opposite is the root of suffering.
