मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-7, verse-191

संहतान योधयेदल्पान कामं विस्तारयेद बहून ।
सूच्या वज्रेण चैवैतान व्यूहेन व्यूह्य योधयेत ॥१९१॥
191. saṁhatān yodhayedalpān kāmaṁ vistārayed bahūn ,
sūcyā vajreṇa caivaitān vyūhena vyūhya yodhayet.

sūcyā vajreṇa ca eva etān vyūhena vyūhya yodhayet

191. Fewer men should be made to fight in close formation, while more men can be deployed widely. These should be fought using needle and thunderbolt formations.
