महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-24, verse-83

विचित्रमृतुभिः षड्भिः कृत्वा संवत्सरं धनुः ।
तस्मान्नॄणां कालरात्रिर्ज्या कृता धनुषोऽजरा ॥८३॥
83. vicitramṛtubhiḥ ṣaḍbhiḥ kṛtvā saṁvatsaraṁ dhanuḥ ,
tasmānnṝṇāṁ kālarātrirjyā kṛtā dhanuṣo'jarā.
83. vicitram ṛtubhiḥ ṣaḍbhiḥ kṛtvā saṃvatsaram dhanuḥ
tasmāt nṝṇām kālarātriḥ jyā kṛtā dhanuṣaḥ ajarā
83. ṣaḍbhiḥ vicitram ṛtubhiḥ saṃvatsaram dhanuḥ kṛtvā,
tasmāt nṝṇām ajarā kālarātriḥ dhanuṣaḥ jyā kṛtā
83. Having made the year (saṃvatsara) into a bow with its six varied seasons, the undecaying Night of Time (kālarātri) was therefore made the bowstring of that bow for human beings.
