महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-24, verse-30

देवारण्यानि सर्वाणि प्रियाणि च दिवौकसाम् ।
ऋषीणामाश्रमान्पुण्यान्यूपाञ्जनपदांस्तथा ।
व्यनाशयन्त मर्यादा दानवा दुष्टचारिणः ॥३०॥
30. devāraṇyāni sarvāṇi priyāṇi ca divaukasām ,
ṛṣīṇāmāśramānpuṇyānyūpāñjanapadāṁstathā ,
vyanāśayanta maryādā dānavā duṣṭacāriṇaḥ.
30. devāraṇyāni sarvāṇi priyāṇi ca
divaukasām ṛṣīṇām āśramān puṇyān
yūpān janapadān tathā vyanāśayanta
maryādāḥ dānavāḥ duṣṭacāriṇaḥ
30. duṣṭacāriṇaḥ dānavāḥ ca divaukasām
priyāṇi sarvāṇi devāraṇyāni
ṛṣīṇām puṇyān āśramān yūpān janapadān
tathā maryādāḥ vyanāśayanta
30. And the wicked demons (dānava), destructive in their ways, utterly destroyed all the divine forests dear to the gods, the sacred hermitages (āśrama) of the sages, the sacrificial posts (yūpa), the populated regions, and also the established norms.
