तानब्रवीत्तदा देवो लोकानां प्रभुरीश्वरः ।
नास्ति सर्वामरत्वं हि निवर्तध्वमतोऽसुराः ।
वरमन्यं वृणीध्वं वै यादृशं संप्ररोचते ॥८॥

8. tānabravīttadā devo lokānāṁ prabhurīśvaraḥ ,
nāsti sarvāmaratvaṁ hi nivartadhvamato'surāḥ ,
varamanyaṁ vṛṇīdhvaṁ vai yādṛśaṁ saṁprarocate.

tān abravīt: "hi sarvāmaratvam na asti.

Then the divine lord (īśvara), the master of the worlds, spoke to them: "Indeed, complete immortality is not possible. Therefore, O Asuras, withdraw your request! Choose another boon, whatever is agreeable to you."
